Joining the team, help me pick?

My buddy convinced me to give the game a shot. We are starting with sevens and then moving to full.

I come from AoS where I prefer fast and a complete lack of regard for my own well being (ogors and FEC) but I dont want to just die without a cause or purpose.

All the videos just do the same "play what you want" but if the teams playstyle doesnt match mine then...eh?

Any tips would be appreciated. Getting the models shouldn't be a problem.

LGS round 3: rat teeth can chip on bones

Round 3 of my LGS spearhead league planted me against the deathrattle tomb host. While it is widely considered one of the strongest armies in spearhead, I was excited as I absolutely love when big horde armies duke it out.

I gave away turn 1 and regretted it as he got a solid 8 inch charge with his knights into my ogors. A counter charge by my clan rats tried to distract him but he put everything into my big rats and.....killed 1. That was a relief. What was a bigger one was my ogors and clan rats killed all but 1 knight and my clan rats had him so surrounded he couldn't bring a knight back in cohesion!

Round 2 I finished off his knight and then I got cocky. I totally disregarded his deathrattle as not a threat and that cost me my ogors. Buffed right, that can be 20 attacks on 3's and 3''s. This also cost me my backline objective.

Round 3 saw me finish off his barrow guard, hurt his king down to 1, and take one of his back objectives with my Grey seer.

Final round and we were tied 15 all. He then proceeded to pull out reinforcements, bring back 2 knights, and make his 2nd mistake. He charged my clan rats who had his king tied up and took them out instead of taking my Grey seer out and reclaiming his back objective. This not only let me bring my clan rats back as reinforcements onto my home objective to steal it, but left my Grey Seer alive to wither his king to death. In the end, we tied at 22 a piece. It was a helluva game, back and forth the whole time.

Onto round 4 and some good old fashioned rat on rat violence!

The cheapest army ive ever had

Deep diving into Mawtribes as the models are gorgeous. Got the battlebox on pre order and my LGS will hold the spearhead for me so I can pick it up when it drops. I got a blood pelt hunter cause it is just cool looking and then realized....im at 1990 points?

Is this what makes us so fun? $440 for a full army and thats with paying full LGS MSRP.

Is it viable? For casual sure. Obviously smorgasbord armies dont compare to optimized lists but still. Goddamn coming from CoS this feels incredible.

Thoughts on Gorgers

So im building up a mawtribes army and im starting with the new spearhead and battle box(box is ordered and I assume the spearhead will come out with the release shortly) and im curious on everyone's thoughts on the gorger mawpack.

On one hand I love the aesthetic and lore. Also 12 damage against an average 4+ that can deep strike and bolt in is super fun.

That said, 240 points for 25 wounds on a 6+ save who may well be out of range of Redd's ward or buff spells due to the aforementioned deep strike makes me leary. More so as they cannot be reinforced

How do you see the Gorgers working out? Worth it, or do you save the points and go with gluttons or something?

LGS round 2: Crackin open the boyz with a cold one

Round 2 of the LGS league had me up against the infamous Krule Boyz.

This match def showed how armies can be balanced but the match up can just be bad.

I got a lucky charge with my clawlord and got his Boltboyz tied up before they could do some serious damage. They managed to survive but it left my side free to clog the center without getting whittled.

As usual my engineer did work though he did, for the first time, damage himself with his more more ability.

A good counter charge by my rat ogors and some whiffs on his end had me clear both sets of gutrippaz and his bolt boyz by turn 2.

After I got his man skewer into combat it was basically over. A valiant last stand by his boss was not enough to wipe my ogors and I managed a table.

Great time was had and he was humble in defeat. I am now 1 away from my goal of minimum 3-2 and I'm stoked for more spearhead!

LGS league round 1: rat on rat violence

Round 1 of the new spearhead league. My gnawfeast vs Warpspark.

Ended up on top by the grace of my engineer doing pretty consistent damage to the stormfiends and my opponent's cannon under performing.

A final round cannon blast nearly took out my clawlord and the melee in the middle proved just how bad clan rats are in combat. Over 4 rounds I think a combined 15 rats were killed by other clanners.

All in all a great game. Looking forward to more!

Gnawfeast vs Warpspark

Im in a small tourney using Gnawfeast and my opponent is using Warpspark.

Normally I tarpit with my clan rats and drill down one threat at a time but im not sure of the best method for getting to his cannon or stormfiends if he puts them back and with their trait they are one of the few who can outlast me.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Kruleboyz vs. Deathrattle!

Just finished a great spearhead game at the LGS. My Kruleboyz vs. The Deathrattle tomb host.

Honestly, Spearhead may be my favorite way to play. I know it isnt everyone's cup of tea and I love regular AoS but the low barrier of entry, easy rules, and good price make this my game of choice.

Edit: for those curious, I did win. Close game but a turn one round of shooting and a good counter charge denied my opponent his hero. Turn 4 came with a gamble double turn and another solid shooting round to blast off the last skeletons. Ended up a 17-14 victory. Barrow knights took way more punishment than they had any right to.

So I couldnt help myself and bought the old world marauders to convert them into darkoath. I have several warriors of chaos units as well.

After the updates, how viable is a mixed arms force of darkoath and warriors? Im not entering warhammer world or anything just curious if I can mix them without totally kneecapping myself at the LGS

Wings or trophy rack

Treated myself to a daemon prince for father's day. From a play standpoint, are wings or the trophy rack more viable? Obviously i can build it how i like and ill be magnatizing the head and arms but the wings look to be a monster to magnatize so I may as well build it how itll be used more often. Thanks dudes.
