Something no one warned me about as a cane user

Before becoming disabled I always assumed that mobility aids would remove/prevent pain, like all the ads and doctors say they will. Then I became disabled and walking became painful and I was told a cane would help, so I got one. And it does help, but it doesn’t actually prevent my pain so much as relocate it. For instance, a long walking day without a cane used to mean basically unbearable pain in my legs the following days. But now, after a lot walking day with a cane I still have a decent amount of leg pain, not nearly as bad, but I also have moderate wrist and arm pain. Obviously taking the weight off my feet means it’s on my arm, and I logically knew that, but never really processed it in my mind or understood that of course that would be painful! My arm wasn’t built to take that much weight for so long; obviously that’s going to make it hurt. Of course, this is still way better than going without my mobility aid, but I think it’s so weird that no one— not doctors, not my physical therapists, not even other cane users—ever brought up the possibility of arm pain up before suggesting mobility aids. And sometimes when I meet other cane users I ask them about it, and they fully agree that they experience arm or wrist pain, or sometimes hand cramping when they hold the cane too tight or for too long. Just kinda weird. Fellow cane users, were you warned about this? Or is it something you hand to find out on your own?

Edit: I’ve been fitted, and talked with both my doctors and my physical therapist and had the fit checked with my PT and we looked at different types of grips and lengths for different shoes and all the stuff. It’s not a fit issue

Absolutely unhinged outfit choice

I’m sure someone’s discussed this before but this is an absolutely hilarious and also completely insane costuming choice. Also, anyone know where I can get this jersey?

Does anyone understand how bridges (Libby library card) works?

I’m very confused by what is and isn’t a bridges library in Iowa. I understand that it’s an opt in federally funded state library program, but that’s about all. I love my Libby card and use it regularly but was looking to add other libraries to boost the number of books available. What I am curious about is, does anyone know if there is a benefit to adding multiple Bridges library cards to your Libby account? Are they all the same catalogue, or are they different with different cards? Is the availability different between different branches? If I already have a Des Moines card, for instance, will adding an Ames card mean more available titles or are they all the same? I can’t seem to make sense of the state website thats supposed to be explaining it. Sorry if this is a dumb question

Uber driver won’t deliver my food

Unsure what to do. Driver said they “accepted by accident” and I asked them to cancel so it can be reassigned but they’re claiming they can’t and I have to cancel on my end. It’s giving scammy vibes. Wondering what to do to get delivery unassigned/reassigned. I tried using the chatbot to get new driver but it was a chatbot so it was ultimately unhelpful. Anyone know what I’m supposed to do? Should I cancel it or will my account get dinged?

Edit: thanks for the advice I called uber after my driver stopped responding and I had the delivery reassigned. The foods definitely cold by now but I wasn’t going to cancel and let the driver win lol

Heel sandwich, “chicken salad” but it’s actually just packets of mayo and the remnants of a clearance rotisserie chicken

Would it be bad if I wore my (not white) wedding reception dress to my friend’s wedding?

So my friend is getting married tomorrow and I had an outfit planned out, but that outfit didn’t factor in me getting a heart monitor placed this week. I tried the dress on and realized the monitor was completely visible in the dress even with a cami underneath, and not only do I feel uncomfortable with everyone seeing it, I also just dont want to answer the questions I know I’ll get about why I’m wearing it. The problem is, I’m a not a dressy person. I own 5 dresses. 3 of them are too formal and too warm for the semi-casual outdoor wedding that they’re having, and the other two are the dress that I was initially planning to wear, which will expose my heart monitor, and the dress I wore to my wedding reception. It’s dark teal cotton A-line dress. There’s absolutely nothing “wedding like” about it other than the fact I wore it to my wedding. I wear it regularly cause it’s a comfy dress. I wouldn’t be worried at all about wearing it except that whenever I do, the friend who is getting married sees it and says “oh look, your wedding dress!” So she absolutely does remember that it’s the dress I wore to my wedding reception. Not the ceremony, for that I wore a white dress. I don’t want to step on her toes and she’s usually super chill, but weddings make people a little crazy. If I can’t wear the dress I either need to go buy a new one (a difficult task for me. I don’t do well with new clothes, or clothing shopping due to sensory issues) or I need to wear a non-dress outfit and I’m not sure I have anything that fits the bill, plus it’s outdoors and I’m afraid I’ll melt in anything other than a light dress. Am I being dramatic, or would it be a big bad to wear my (very much NOT white) wedding reception dress to my friend’s wedding?

Edit: I am not going to ask her directly because the wedding is tomorrow and I’ve seen her plan weddings before and she always has a million things to do last minute, so I know she’s way too busy for me to bother her.

I’m switching drugs, and they took me off my old med before my new one was ready. I’ve been unmedicated for about 6 weeks and I am STRUGGLING. I have never been on any real pain meds, just ibuprofen because my doctor is very stingy with pain medication, which is fine. I don’t want to be on prescription painkillers. It’s a last resort for me. But I’m downing ibuprofen like it’s candy. I don’t want to do this. I need some ideas for better pain management. Info: I am at the point where exercise is incredibly difficult and painful, so yoga, Pilates, walks, etc. are not really a solution. I’m trying my best to keep moving, but it’s a struggle. Clean eating is also a struggle. I have no grip strength in left hand (technically I have >10 pounds, which is considered non-functional), and bad grip strength in my right (~30, but when medicated it’s around 75, so significantly lower than normal) so cooking is basically impossible until this flair ends. I was able to do a lot better when I was medicated. I’ve also started incorporating caffeine into my pain management, cause I read that caffeine along side OTCs can help boost the effectiveness. I’ve noticed a bit of help.

What else can I do to help manage my pain until my new meds get started and until they kick in?

I try drinking a ton of water for my cartilage, I’m trying to eat veggies, I’m on vitamin D, B12, and iron (all doctor recommended), I’m in physical therapy, my PT has me doing exercises, I just need something more
