ATH m40x review

I have had the m40x headphones for a lot of years now.

Bass

The bass has a boosted sound without being too extreme for my Non Basshead ears, It is good for me to check how bass sounds on them Compared to my HS5 speakers. It has that not extreme but still "fun" sound.

Middle

Although the middle is scooped, it's not scooped enough to annoy me.

Treble

The Treble is boosted, but still relatively flat sounding.

My thoughts about the m40x headphones

I think the m40x is overall a good headphone for listening to music, but I think my HS5 speakers are better for doing most of my music mixing, but I would never mix something like Dubstep or Techno or EDM music on my HS5 speakers and I don't even like those genres. The m40x headphones were the first pair of headphones I had for both mixing and listening to music and the soundstage is way wider than on all the audio gear I used before I got the m40x headphones, but the soundstage on my HS5 speakers is even wider. I think these are good headphones for thier price. I can wear these headphones for longer for a good amount of time despite them being not the most comfortable pair of headphones and they are far from the most uncomfortable headphones I have tried. The m40x headphones are great entry level headphones.

My m40x sound like they have less harsh treble after a lot of break in and the bass sounds like it's more present with the lowered treble. Anyone else notice this with the m40x? Now my HS5 speakers are better for doing most of my mixing and then checking mixes also on the m40x and SR50BT headphones is what I do. My m40x headphones still have a better soundstage on them than my SR50BT headphones, but they both have what I think is a changed sound. I still like listening to Music with both my headphones, they are not too muddy sounding.

With my HS5 they still have a good soundstage even though they don't have much sub bass. I think if you can mix good on speakers with less sub bass for most genres, your mix will translate well to other sound sources. I am also glad the HS5 doesn't have much sub bass since I'm not a Basshead.

People should really take care of their ears if they want to listen to music with the best possible hearing from each of their ear. I hade to use earplugs when sleeping because bass from a neighbour playing music hurt my right ear even though the bass was low volume it was still intense enough to hurt my ears. I ended up getting the loop quiet 2 earplugs which blocked out enough noise for my sleep the last many days I used them. Now that my ear is healed I can hear even more than I could before my right ear was hurt, but I'm not saying go and get your ears hurt and then heal them. I am lucky that after my right ear healed I can hear more out of it, but some people who have gotten their ears hurt have had permanent hearing loss and sometimes only some hearing loss not full hearing loss.

I have had to play my audio with panning slightly to the right for my ears to hear the music equally on both sides for many days, but not anymore. I also use Vibes earplugs for concerts and I love the way Vibes earplugs make things sound at concerts. I don't like Dubstep so I don't have that on my playlist. Even if your ears are not sensitive you should still wear earplugs when you are near extreme volumes and/or intense bass. Not enough people take care of their ears until they have hearing damage when they are older and some of the worst noises for your ears are loud sports cars or cars that have sorts car engines. All of my headphones are not extreme bass boosted and I like that because I am not a Basshead.

I used to use shirts for cleaning glasses, but that created scratches on my old glasses, I now only use Glasses cleaning cloths for my 2 new pairs of glasses to wipe my glasses clean.

I usually use wet wipes that don't have harsh chemicals for cleaning my headphones and they become less itchy if I clean them after I sweat and/or haven't washed my hair in a while if I don't let the oils and/or sweat stay on the headphones and I wipe the wetness away with paper towels. What do some of you people use for cleaning headphones?

After someone said Swinsian was the best music player I thought I would check it out and I found out it is worth the price. It works with the latest versions of Mac software and I could even download it on Sanoma which is sick. I love how fast it took to upload, it uploaded 67.2 GB of music in under 5 minutes. It also Plays music with no added compression unlike iTunes which adds additional compression to files. It has eq that can have either 10 or 31 bands, but I leave it off with my 2 Audio Technica headphones and my Yamaha HS5 speakers. It has a nice user interface to use and I can search for songs fast with it. It even matched the Dark Theme I have set on my Mac without any settings changes.
