My bathroom hygiene tips and tricks

I am a 56yo American man. This will be a long post of my tips and tricks in the bathroom in no particular order. I suggest scanning the list vs. reading.

I shower daily because I feel too much dead skin after 2 days and I have short hair. Your culture and preferences may be different and that is ok.

*- Buy most stuff online as it is typically a lot cheaper than CVS or Right Aid.

Have a full size tub bath mat. I have difficulty balancing and a full size mat gives me much more confidence that I won't slip.

Have a suction cup handlebar on the tub wall. While it is marketed for people with balance issues, it is surprisingly effective at quickening your scrub.

Shampoo is a cleanser and strips oils from your hair. If you have long hair, use a hairnet and/or conditioner, which helps restore oils.

Have a bathliner and shower with it inside the tub to minimize water getting out. If you desire more privacy, have a shower curtain that lays outside the tub.

I have shampoo, soap, and face cleaner. I use a bath poof for body and a rotating set of face scrub mittens to clean. It takes me 1m for hair, 2m for body, and 1m for face, with about 1m rinses in between. My shower takes under 10m. I dry out the used face mitten daily to avoid mildew.

Dry off inside the shower, not outside. If you have a rug or carpet, the moisture causes mildew. If you have wood or tile, the water can cause a slip.

If you take long showers and your bathroom fan sucks, keep the bathroom door open. The steam, over time, will destroy the drywall.

Have a shower routine so you don't have to think about it. I get wet, wash and rinse my hair, lather the poof, scrub and rinse my body, lather mitten, scrub and lather face, and rinse. Dry face, arms, front, back, left foot with towel in right hand, step out with said foot, dry right foot, step out, dry legs and anything else needing extra.

When the shower is complete, drape the liner outside the tub as it will tend to mildew quickly if left in, especially if scrunched to the side.

I have comb, qtips, sonic toothbrush, reach flosser, water pick, deodorant, beard trimmer, and body shaver trimmer for tools.

Consider a Reach flosser. I have trouble flossing with dental floss. My mouth is too small. A Reach flosser is angled 90 degrees and makes it very easy to get in between teeth. There is a sonic device called a hummingbird that is also angled 90 degrees.

Consider a water pick. Because I use a Reach flosser instead of dental floss, I only get in between teeth. I bought a water pick to get to all of the periodontal areas. It is awesome. It is messy. I suggest using it over the tub, holding onto a handle. Move your head around, not your arm, else water will dribble down it.

Hope someone might get something out of this. Cheers! 😊

Charging light does not turn on when connecting USB combinator

This is a weird one. I have a hub and a y combinator. Think of the combinator as a mini hub. It has power USB and an HDMI port. When I plug the USB from the hub to the deck, charging light turns on, display goes to tv/monitor. Same thing ***was*** happening with the combinator. Until recently.

Recently, when I plug it it, the deck is not recognizing it. If I plug the power directly in from there, the light turns on. Now, here's the thing... If I reboot the deck while it is plugged in, it will often recognize it.

Everything works, I have multiple redundancies to test, 45-60W bricks, 60W USB-C cables, power and dual direction.

I believe steamos might have updated around this time, so may have something to do with that.

Thoughts?

Trying to get help cutting 4x4s

I am having a devil of a time finding assistance with this .

I have a kitchen table at bar level height. I want to cut the 4 finished 4x4 legs by 8 inches (adjusted) to make it standard height. I live in a small apartment with no power tools and a particularly small patio. A miter saw or a table saw would be ideal.

My Lowes can only cut 2". I've posted on websites with no luck. There is a community place but they are open to the public 1d/w and the website does not suggest I can donate for this simple service. Friends do not have the tools.

I'm at the point where I am considering renting a circular saw and cutting it half one side and half the other then sanding it flat. I do not have a great/safe environment for this though. Suggestions much appreciated.

Edit: Thank you all for the great advice! It is clear to me I should get a crosscut handsaw, clamp the leg down if I can, cut at the corners, create a kerf on each side (I think?), go from there and install leveling feet. Thank you all!

Final Edit: For those who come after (IYKYK): My neighbor suggested a miter box, which I totally forgot existed. In the end, I used a miter box, which came with a saw, and 2 clamps, and a crappy folding table. It took an hour and was a pain, but I got there. I tried out the pull saw. Interesting tool. I liked it, but I bought a small one, so it wasn't working well with the box. Thanks again.

SPAM call at 2am

For the record, I was mildly infuriated, and I was awake. My girl was not, and a SPAM call came in at 2am this morning. SHE was livid. WTF? Now we all have to schedule DnD to prevent AI spam calls during sleep times. Grr argh.

To Steam

I just got a notification that a wish list item is on sale. Crimson Desert. $55.99. I do not know what alternate reality you are pushing, but that price point does not count as "on sale". Reducing a price of something by under 2% is not a sale. At all. That was rude and you wasted my time. Do better.

I am grateful that my person and I can have an honest fight.

Drinking. She is mad at me. I am mad at her. I'm wrong. She's wrong. Does not matter. I appreciate that she does not attack me for past transgressions. She attacks me with "you're drunk right now. Still." and similar silly nonsense (see what I did there?) but not words like "you always..."

I want to open this up. This is important. Do you have clean or dirty fights?

Do you find yourself looking to see is OP has their posts public?

I'm noticing a lot of OPs, especially on this sub have their posts private. It makes me wonder if they are bots.

This one is silly, but I am grateful for my new bath mat.

For context, I have undiagnosed neuropathy in my feet, which creates numbness. This causes me to not balance normally, which can be a concern in a slippery bathtub. This is even more true when I close my eyes, such as when I am rinsing shampoo out of my hair. A few years ago, my roommate suggested getting a suction cup holder bar for the shower. That was awesome. Now, with careful movements, I could always be holding something as I shifted my feet, but the tub was still slippery.

Previous mats and stickies did not satisfy me because they did not cover the entire length. Fast forward to a week ago and I thought, hey, there's got to be something on Amazon. Looked it up, found it, bought it.

It is awesome. There is enough feel that I feel comfortable standing without having to hold the bar all the time. Wonderful buy.

Suggestions for bike/bicycle riding with Neuropathy?

I'm trying to get back into bike riding. I have neuropathy. There is not any real pain, but instead it is the numbness and the lack of stability. Specifically, I am having trouble positioning my feet on the pedals. The bike is effectively an inexpensive stock geared bike with traction tires. Any suggestions?

Amazon! Educate your drivers on what Deliver to front door means!

I have this ongoing problem where I get items delivered to the mail room, which is light years away. I often get things delivered there even though my delivery instructions dictate to deliver to my front door. Many items do get delivered to my front door, but some do not. I suspect it is because many delivery drivers don't read English. That is fine.

But for all that is holy with the flying spaghetti monster, it is a radio button on the website and Amazon can put forth a little effort to explain what those radio buttons effing mean when they train the drivers!!!!

Scifi book where people install software in their brains

I'm looking for a book or series. It's scifi, set probably 100 to 200 years in the future. Most people get brain implants that allow them to install software that allows the manual usage of normally autonomic brain functions. Software versioning is discussed a lot. An example piece of software might be WakeUp_v1.17.3 2 which a person would set to 8am to release alerting hormones the brain would normally do to wake you up.

If I remember right, the protagonist was one such programmer building himself up from poverty until he created a small, but very successful company. He was mean, ruthless, and driven. The first book is about the Apples and Microsofts trying to aquire his company.

I believe the book was the first in a series and I want to read more. I suspect the publishing date would be the oughts, or maybe teens.

I started picking up litter on my walks

I am not sure if this is the right forum, but it's close.

I have been doing a lot of walking, almost daily on the path to shed some weight. I carry a backpack with extra weight to burn just a few extra calories. On my walks I notice litter here and there. Not much but I don't like it.

So I bought one of those litter claw grabbers and put it in my backpack with grocery bags so that when I walk, I can pick up stuff and then throw it away, usually at Safeway. My girl often walks with me and we grab a few groceries. She likes it.

My purpose is to lose weight and I have time and I like having my neighborhood clean. I think she is grateful, and passers-by are grateful, and I am grateful to myself as well :)

The "algorithm"

Another person ranted about "Is it just me..."

I apologize to you, but I must use that phrase. I promise that I mean the query with purpose.

I lied. I'm going to go with am I the only one...

Has anyone experienced that YouTube goes through these kinda phases? For a month I will get wonderfully different things and the next month it keeps trying to feed me the same lame crap I already watched weeks ago. Sister Christian won't leave. I listened to it. I liked it. Go away.

Next month is August. Perhaps I am Neo. The One. Ugg

This is a quick rant

There is a YouTube channel called Fact Quickie hosted by the amazing and always awesome Simon Whistler.

I believe I have encountered more than 1 of these videos that is more than 40 minutes long.

That is not a quickie. That is the opposite. That is basically half a full feature film. A quickie would be 3 minutes.

Eff you channel runners for choosing a really bad name.

Suggestion: Rename the channel "Fact If-You-Continue-To-Read-This-Then-Perhaps-Maybe-You-Our-Inteded-Audience"

Grr. Arrg

It GREATLY bothers ME

I identify as a liberal. I fiercely defend honest debate. I am disgusted by almost everything the current administration has done. Now, having explained myself, why does every left leaning political YouTube commentator have to use capital words? Is it the same on the conservative side? Instead of, "Senator was pushed against in cabinet meeting", I see, "Senator DESTROYED and HUMILIATED by something that I won't identify in the title because I want you to click on this for engagement"

I specifically call out Brian Tyler Cohen and Adam Mockler. I respect their arguments, but damn I hate THe capitalization OF raNDOM words IN THE EFFING TITLE!
