Is excessive sweating a thing, and if so, how can I stop it?

I sweat like a bottle of cold soda left on a warm kitchen bench. It's infuriating. To preface this, I was born in a country in Asia and spent half my life here. Temperatures are 28 degrees celcius or well above, humidity 80% and above throughout the year. I'm no stranger to this sort of weather and I even love it.

Thought it might just be me being out of shape so I started running and swimming. Guess what, it's worse! I'm not overweight, I'm middle aged M, 5'7 and 138lbs. It wasn't a problem when I was younger. But now in middle age it's unbearable, not to mention unsightly and disgusting.

I'm the only one sweating in an air conditioned Cafe while meeting friends, it makes my clothes smell worse than I'd like, I've got lots of laundry to do, and the trickles of sweat are a sensory bother. If I don't wear a sweatband while doing even very modest exercise, the sweat runs down my face and burns my eyes.

Also spent half my life in another country with clear seasons and more extreme swings. During the cold seasons it's another problem. It's as if my sweat glands shut down if I don't exercise. I sweat very little but as soon as I get even a little warm, I get this horrific prickly sensation all over my body that is only alleviated if I step outside into the cold with a T shirt, or have a cold shower (not practical). In situations like these I almost have to intentionally feel cold just so I don't need to deal with the intense sensation of being jabbed by pins all over.

Is there anything I can do that will genuinely help? Or is this another of those genetically inherited freebies I'll have to live with for life?

Vale Roy. More than 6 years and 6 kilos to fill these jeans out.

Reading about Roy's passing was probably the worst thing to happen in an otherwise mundane day. What it did however, was push me to take these off the shelves and wear them out for the day in honor of him, his work and spirit of enthusiasm and skill for his craft. Anyway, I figured some of us might be sharing photos of his stuff, and no harm if I did the same.

I got these Peanut Pants several years ago but it took plenty of time before I was actually able to fill them out somewhat. They are probably the most obsessively detailed and constructed pair in my wardrobe, just speaking from the perspective of a rather ignorant person who just enjoys wearing jeans. I don't claim to know anything. They are just really nice jeans.

These are a relax-tapered cut that isn't "carrot", and they run pretty roomy on my frame. The higher rise goes nearly up to the level of my navel. The stitching is immaculately clean and dense. The beefy Black Seed denim from Cone has a sheen on its outside, while the inside bears Roy's signature pink thread in the selvedge line. The fabric is really smooth on the inside thanks to the use of Supima cotton on the weft, but it does get pretty hot in tropical humid conditions.

The embroidered "Roy" and size tag number on the heavy canvas pocket bag is his inimitable signature. The little Peanuts comic strip sewn into the waistband adds just a bit of whimsy as you don these pants. A few of the belt loops have additional key ring loops if you're inclined to carry more things than you'd want in your pockets.

The shape of the back pockets and coin pockets are a big thing I love about these jeans, and all of them are lined with the same canvas fabric used for the pocket bags. The rivets are exposed but thankfully non-scratching. There's a "Big Bro" tag in green that brings back memories of the Osh Kosh tags on my jeans as a kid. And of course, that fabulous shell stitching on the fly and on one side of the front pocket bags.

Lastly, leg twist in almost equal amounts on both legs and incredibly even roping at both hems. I almost let these jeans go at various points over the last few years since they were so underutilised. But I'm glad I didn't. There's no problem that a few beers wouldn't solve.

Vale Roy.

EDIT: A couple of vids to go down memory lane and revisit what this legend has done.

Cool Hunting

Hannah Stocking showing off manual pupil control while Mark Wahlberg questions reality in the back

Stocking belongs to an exceptionally rare group of individuals who can consciously control their autonomic nervous system to dilate and constrict their pupils on command without any changes in external light. While many viewers originally accused the clip of being an AI-generated deepfake, she is actually demonstrating a highly unusual biological anomaly called Voluntary Pupillary Modulation, a documented case study published in PubMed confirmed that a small percentage of the population can successfully master this.

Fujifilm S5 Pro (circa 2006)

The Fujifilm S5 is something I should have used more, and unfortunately never did. I bought it on clearance to replace a Canon 1Ds MK I that met an untimely demise due to failure of a circuit board and was deemed irreparable.

When I got the S5, it coincided with a period where my interest in photography also waned due to the constant concerns about work, the arrival of a baby, and just life in general. I'm back in the hobby now just doing family snapshots on a mirrorless camera. The S5 is bulky in comparison but it does yield SOOC jpegs that are just perfectly baked and ready to go.

The trouble I've found with the S5 has generally been the lack of acuity to the images. This was from a period of time I shot mainly with a Canon 1D MK I and 1Ds MK I. I used it mainly with consumer zooms. The 16-85mm VR was always a bit soft. The 55-300mm VR was a little better. But towards the very late stages I jumped on a AF-D 55mm Micro and that showed me just how crisp the images could be.

I use my Fujifilm mirrorless camera much, much more today and the S5 sits in a box waiting for its next workout. The photos from the new camera just don't have the same oomph as those from the S5.

Ran only my third 4km+ in 20 years

I've always been terrible with running so it was hard to make a start. About 7 years ago I also started medicating with propanolol to manage a neurological condition along with frequent, severe headaches. I can't be sure why even the littlest run leaves me feeling exhausted but that might have something to do with it.

Anyway, I just woke up one morning and decided to get better since I didn't like the way I looked in the mirror. I'll try to keep going.

Finally gave in to the temptation and got the GFX100RF.

This will replace the X100V as my street camera.

Requesting some tips and tricks + accessories; which flash and filters should I get?
