I’m really confused. I just found this on the floor of my apartment. I live alone and have no idea where it came from.

I don’t see anything missing parts and this was just laying on the floor of my apartment just inside the doorway and close to the kitchen. There is nothing for it to have fallen from or out of. When I saw the battery I thought maybe my car key fob but it’s intact. I searched FC:001 and I’m pretty sure it’s a controller. But the first hit was for a bidet and I don’t have that plus this was just laying on the floor by my kitchen. It’s not fallen from a smoke detector. All I can figure is it was on my show but it’s not smashed. Any ideas?

Solved! Single button gate fob for old apartment. Thanks! I was genuinely concerned that someone was up to something.

Alerted seller within minutes of closing/payment that it looked like title and description were in error asked that he reverse, he acknowledged error then responded it was too late to stop delivery (within 10 minutes)

I bid on a sports card and the photo seemed to match the description. But as soon as it closed I saw that it was not what was in the title. Wrong year, wrong set and most importantly it was sold as an autograph and it was not. He immediately responded that “I dkw it says that” then “you should noticed the error” then I responded, no problem just reverse the payment and we are good and I’ll leave good feedback as soon as completed” He responded that “you need to be more careful when bidding”. I said it was fine just reverse the payment and cancel. Within 5 minutes he responded “too late, mailing”. I tried to cancel myself or file with eBay but the response was I needed to wait for delivery to complain and give seller an opportunity to resolve. The seller will not respond. The tracking information provided does not actually track to a package in route (three days later) so do I just keep waiting for the wrong item to possibly arrive before I can formally do anything? BTW this is a really small order (about $12) but it is just so annoying that he has over 300 currently listed and upon review I see he has duplicated the same fake titles.

Scientists have asked AI to create viable new viruses, it did. What could possibly go wrong

AI actually was able to create 16 new viruses. Not computer viruses, actual viable viruses. The writer notes that there could be some concern that AI viruses may be harmful but for now this is good news. Really?

This currently shows as my first available item. I’m thinking the item title is disconnected from the actual item

Really? I am not a prude. But if selecting “Jesus fan” and planning to take to church, I hope everyone looks closely before doing so

Finally got my Ideapad-5 to work.

I am a first time user and had tried for a couple of weeks to get my 5 year old IdeaPad-5 to work. I tried multiple USB sticks. I flashed and refreshed the sticks. I turned off Secure Boot. I renumbered the priority on the drives. No matter what I did I was stuck at Bash Prompt and it just would not load. Finally this weekend I got it. The problem was the quick start from sleep. I had assumed if I held down the power button that it was fully powered off. I changed the power button from “sleep” to “shut down” and just like that it resolved. I had not seen this as
Part of the original instructions. There were lots of posts about BIOS and security and various other things. But I just had not seen that the default for the IdeaPad was always to sleep/hibernate and not to simply power off. Everything installed, no issues. I’m sure most are rolling their eyes at my noob attempt and solution (essentially turn it off and turn it on) but that simple answer was such an ah ha for this tech limited dude.

Curious if celebrating “ding letters” (job rejections) was a Gen-X thing or if kids today still do it

When I was in college (late 80’s) the upperclassmen would tape copies of their “ding letters” to their doors and highlight the “we do not have and will not a position for you in our company” and others like that. It seems like a very Gen-X thing to do but perhaps the new generations still do this?

Spoiler: Did the Cylons know/expect/help Gallactica to survive?

There were five final (single copies) of the creating cylons. All of them ended up on Gallactica and four of five were assigned to Gallactica. To our knowledge all other Battlestars except Pegasus were destroyed. So was it just really lucky that all of the final five were on Gallactica or do you think it was a grand plan to put them on Gallactica and then let it escape?

Did I short change myself?

I recently decided to sell a little silver. I wanted to put a nice bit in pocket for a Vegas trip and also basically zero out my cost basis on my remaining silver. I sold a total of four rolls of American Silver Eagles (2014 and 2015) and three 5 ounce silver quarters. On Monday I sold rolls for $80/oz ($1600 a roll) but on the 5 oz quarters they paid $77/oz as they called them generic rounds. So I got $385 each for them. They were in nice two piece plastic holders that I should have taken back. Regardless, seeing as how I had over $7000 for what I think was about $1,900 in cost I didn’t argue and walked out happy. Now I’m wondering if I should have kept the 5oz coins because - regret. Either way I am happy to be playing with house money now on most of the rest of my silver but thinking if I sell more I might keep those 5oz quarters locked up.

Found my receipt for first silver and gold buy

If I could go back in time….I see I paid $276.90 for the 1oz gold eagle and $155 for a roll (x20) of 1999 American Silver eagles.
