Does anyone else think Enola Holmes 3, starring Millie Bobby Brown, is getting more hate than it needs?

I loved this movie. I thought it’s the best out of all three. I know, that is a little bit of a hot take. Let’s discuss what I loved about this movie and my responses to the many criticisms.

I loved the more mature tone of Enola and Tewkesbury’s relationship. Their chemistry is amazing. Just watch him braiding her hair! 🥵 ❤️ I love that they got a happy ending and got married. They deserved it. I loved their romance. 🥰 💝

I loved all the action sequences. Enola going into the burning hotel to save Tewkesbury, all her fight scenes with Moriarty, etc.

I liked what they did with Eudoria. She is now more in Enola’s life. I loved that they gave her character some humor and quirks.

I liked what they did with Watson. I think he is there for emotional support and as a mentor. Especially when he explained to Enola his relationship with Sherlock with his efforts to talk to him about his latest case over tea. Also love when he comforted Tewkesbury after learning the tragic news about his father in the Battle of Khost.

I loved the progression of Enola and Sherlock’s relationship. I loved Sherlock’s progression as he was pretty emotional at the end. Something you wouldn’t expect Sherlock Holmes to do. I just love their relationship.

I honestly liked the change in scenery at Malta. I found it a refreshing change of pace away from urban London and to the deserty Malta.

I liked the mystery itself. I loved that Sherlock’s kidnapping wasn’t the only mystery as Moriarty wouldn’t only do that. Her objectives were far greater with the Afghan gold.

Here are some common criticisms:

Moriarty being a Black woman: That is basically what revolves around her motivations. In the Victorian era, being a Black woman was always looked down upon, and because of that, she uses crime to gain more control. Also, her anger does involve hypocrisy after she first met Eudoria. Also, remember her quote “Without power, we women must rely on our wits for our fortune.” Also, she was a great villain as she was a greater threat to both Sherlock and Enola than they both experienced.

Not being historically accurate and being too modern: I don’t understand this criticism. All their outfits WERE very historically accurate. There was also criticism of Enola (Millie) having too much makeup on her face and nails or her wearing Ugg boots. Bro, it’s a movie. One: they’re not that noticeable, and two: I don’t think this is the first period drama that did this with the actors.

Sherlock reduced to a damsel in distress: I mean, yes, he was kidnapped and in need of rescue, but that doesn’t mean he lost all his agency and was reduced to a prop or plot device. One: he continued investigating even when he was kidnapped and spoke out his findings in front of Moriarty. Two: he made Moriarty promise Lady Tewkesbury water. Three: even after rescued by Enola, he ended up rescuing her too at the end after Moriarty kept beating her up. Sherlock was never a helpless victim. He still had agency.

There might be more, but my point is, this movie may be a little overhated. Granted, there are still many people who enjoy and love Enola Holmes 3, but I bet those haters are just haters just for the sake of it that nitpicks every single detail instead of enjoying the movie for what it is.

No kidding right?! I can’t imagine wearing what she wore 💀 😞

Lois and Ida tinikling is a pretty underrated scene!

This is my favorite Ida-centric episode (Ida's
Dance). It was nice to see them doing something nice and having a nice time by the end of this episode. It was cool to see where Lois got her stubbornness and badassery from.

It’s scenes like this that’ll make me never hate Lois (as a character AND a person)!

I’ll always love Lois! A fantastic mom for always loving her kids more than anything and having to be strict and with boundaries. If it weren’t for her, her kids would end up having horrible adult lives!

My god 😩 They never give it a rest! 😫 😮‍💨

The original sub just never stops complaining about this new season. Like, yes, the complaints are less frequent now, but they’re still happening.

Gotta love backwards baseball cap Steve ❤️ 💕 💗 🥵 🥵 🥵

He looks TOO GOOD in that! Easily one of (if not the) best Steve look in the show! ❤️

Favorite unexpected scenes/moments? 😂 😆

This is one of them for me. Francis sounded like he wanted a mature conversation with Lois. Then this happens 😂 😂 😆 😆

(First time watcher) Just finished season 3; MY GOODNESS!!!

First of all, AMAZING SEASON!! The whole show has been amazing so far. ASP and DP are two freaking geniuses!

Now let’s talk about what Midge did at the Apollo Theater. I don’t know who I should blame more, Midge or Reggie. Because Reggie did tell her to improvise and talk about Shy, someone she and everyone in the crowd all had in common with. And when you improvise, you don’t have a filter. You just say what’s on your mind. You don’t think about it. Also, Midge was clearly nervous beforehand.

But, based on how Midge worded everything with outing Shy, I don’t think the audience viewed it as Shy being gay. It sounded like they were just laughing at Midge’s words and how she describes him. But then of course, Shy would see it in a whole new lens. I mean, homosexuality and homophobia was viewed EXTREMELY differently in 1960 than today in 2026. Back then, it would cost someone their life.

This is certainly the biggest mistake Midge made so far, and yes, she’s definitely not perfect. And that’s why I love her. She’s shown her selfishness, entitlement, etc, but she also has great ambition and great talent and has to put up with her mother’s constant lack of support and constant judgement, which makes me still root for her. I mean, Midge certainly is not as innocent as she was in the first season. And I love that, that she didn’t stay a goody two shoes, because that’d make a horrible show.

Anyway, this season finale was just insane. Midge’s ruined career, Shy’s extreme embarrassment and humiliation, everything with Susie and her mom, etc. The only thing I’m confused about this season, which may be explained later, so don’t spoil, but I remember that Midge and Joel got remarried in I think season 3 episode 4 drunk in Vegas. I don’t know if that’s been handled, because they did agree to not talk about it, or maybe they have handled it off screen. I don’t know. Although, it’s likely it’ll get mentioned later.

Loving this show. Just wanted to vent. (Please no spoilers!!)

(First time watcher!) Just finished s3 ep7; This is by far my favorite Susie scene so far!

It’s about time Susie spoke her truth to Sophie Lennon because this whole season, Lennon had just been very spoiled and ungrateful for what Susie had done for her. And to be honest, I never liked Sophie for how petty she was from the start and how her ego always gets in the way of her work. She’s treated Midge and Susie both so horribly. I hope I won’t have to see her again after season 3 because I don’t think she’s getting any better, but I could be wrong. Please don’t spoil.

Anyway, loving the show. My top three characters so far are Susie, Midge, and Abe. They’re all hilarious in their own different ways. Liked that we saw Benjamin again because I was like, “what happened to him after season 2?” for a while. I do think Lenny Bruce needs more screen time. Him and Midge together would be SO GOOD!
