I can see why this became a cult classic. The vibes and presentation are immaculate.

Any game; what sticks out the most in your memory?
Never owned a Genesis nor played a game in it's library before now. I can't stop playing Alien Soldier. What other games would you recommend of similar quality? I can't wait to play more Genesis games!
Just beat Xenogears recently, and while I absolutely loved it I don't know if I'll ever be willing to take the journey a second time given its runtime and some of its gameplay flaws. What game would you be willing to call a masterpiece while having no interest in revisiting it?
Are there any games that are worthwhile from the 1st and 2nd home console generations? I grew up with the 5th generation, and while I've played many 3rd and 4th gen games I rarely hear about any from the first two gens that are truly worth preserving. I understand games were very rudimentary at the time, but were there any genuine bangers?
If they were to make another Twilight Zone movie, which 4 episodes would you like to see adapted and by which directors?
In 2018 Sony released the PlayStation Classic, a miniature version of the original console that came preloaded with 20 iconic games of the 5th generation. If Sony were to release a PlayStation 2 Classic, which games would you include, assuming you were limited to 20 total?
While many critics recognized the brilliant storytelling of Spec Ops: The Line on release, the game was a commercial failure and was overlooked by most gamers due to poor marketing and genre saturation. It has a cult following and tends to be loved by those who have played it, but I don't often meet people who have actually experienced it. What other games flopped on arrival that deserve to be more widely played?
Wanted to share progress on a "project" I've been working on. I like to think I've completed a pretty broad variety of video games, but was always a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of landmark titles that have passed me by for one reason or another.

I've found I can more easily motivate myself by setting clearly defined goals, and since my last project was to finally play every Resident Evil game I could get my hands on (30 games in all), I decided to make a mini backlog of 30 games I felt would give me a more well-rounded perspective on the history/landscape of the medium. I included games that are widely considered masterpieces, and also tried to throw in some genres I'm less familiar with (roguelikes, immersive sims, JRPGs, a fighting game and an RTS for good measure). As of yesterday I've completed half of the games on my list, and have really enjoyed the sheer variety of gameplay experiences.

Of the games I've played so far I gave 5 star ratings to Castlevania: Symphony of The Night and Balatro (fully addicted). Thief, Half-Life, and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time are very near to perfection as well. I heavily appreciated Earthbound and Fallout, even though I occasionally found my time with them to be tedious. The only one I can say I didn't enjoy was Undertale, which really surprised me. Overall it's been an illumimating endeavor, and I look forward to playing the rest of these games. I wanted to share in case it inspires anyone else to begin wading through their backlog, but I'd also really love recommendations for games you feel I've missed out on, if anyone cares to take the time!

Here's my Backloggd profile; feel free to sort by completed games to see what I'm missing. I've also wishlisted many games I intend to include on my next backlog project, though after this I'll probably focus on finishing a series again. If you don't want to cross reference the hundreds of titles, feel free also to just recommend a game you think is often overlooked. Thanks for reading, cheers.
Like, actually rolled credits on.
What games have you given 5 stars to, and why?
My girlfriend has never been a huge gamer. She's played the odd 2D Mario game and loved DDR when she was younger, but she never had much interest in the medium. I recently gave her my old Switch in an attempt to spark her interest in gaming. At my recommendation she played Return of The Obra Dinn and loved it, beating it in a day. I also just bought her the Portal games and am awaiting her reaction to those.
My hope is to show her quality games that are accessible and unique, to give her a taste of the wide variety of experiences the medium can offer. I don't want to throw anything too heavy or daunting until she's a little more experienced. Games with interesting problem solving, cathartic mechanics, and compelling narratives are especially welcome. What other games should I recommend?
