Media share using Deco AP

Hi there – I recently got the TP link Deco BE63. There is a USB 3.0 port that I can use to connect a media drive. Has anyone tried creating an SMB directly from the Deco? If so how are the read and write speed? I’m planning to just have it hooked up to my Deco and then use my Windows PC to transfer media to it. FYI the Deco is in access point mode using a wired ethernet backhaul but my Apple TV is connected over Wi-Fi where I’ll use Infuse

Will Bell put my gigahub 2.0 into bridge mode?

I recently got a Deco wired backhaul mesh system. I don’t want to use Bell’s router anymore. Is there anyway to put it into bridge mode or do I need to get tech-support to do that for me?

BE63 inquiry

My friend is giving me a Deco BE63 he no longer needs.. I was wondering what USB protocol it has?

Also can I run an SMB media server directly from the BE63?

If I needed to add new media files would I first need to download them locally to my PC and then transfer to the network folder for the SMB or could I download large files from QbitTorrent directly to the network folder?

Also I have an existing XE75 Pro system. Should I make the BE63 the “main” Deco?

FYI all the Deco‘s are in access point mode with a wired backhaul.

Thanks in advance!

Infuse “slow” on Windows and Mac SMB

Hi all – I’ve been trying to troubleshoot my windows SMB connection to the Apple TV Infuse. I’m using a wired connection on the windows desktop with a 2.5 gb adapter. Ookla speedtest on the desktop shows download speed of 2.2 GB, this is where all my media is and Apple TV is connected over Wi-Fi. On the Speedtest I’m getting about 700 Mbps on Ookla speedtest on the Apple TV.

When I do the SMB Speedtest on using a movie the Windows SMB maximum I’m getting is about average speed of 130 Mbps.

I plugged my media drive into the router and then I was getting around 650 Mbps. Clearly the Apple TV over Wi-Fi can transmit at that higher speed but when I’m doing it over the windows SMB I can’t cross 130. I know that that is still a very good speed but now I’m curious as to why I’m not getting similar performance from the windows SMB. I’ve tried the different SMB protocols.

Out of curiosity I also created an SMB from my MacBook and got pretty much consistent results at 130 Mbps.

Has anyone else run into a similar situation and is there any solution?

Bell is remotely messing up my Internet

Hi guys– pretty annoyed right now. Last night I set up my Apple TV. Over Wi-Fi I was getting around 700 Mbps. The modem is in the utility room about 10 feet away. This morning I woke up and now I’m getting about 150 Mbps. The Apple TV and the modem have not moved. I saw in the Bell Wi-Fi app that there was some optimization that took place at 5:30 AM. I don’t know what that means but I think that’s what caused the speed to drop.

I know most people will say 150 Mbps is more than enough to do pretty much everything on the Apple TV but my issue is more so that why would my speed drop so much if nothing changed. And clearly Bell did something remotely that is showing up in my app. Does anyone have any feedback on how I can stop Bell from doing this in the future?

PIA subscription about to expire

Hi guys, I’ve been using PIA for the last two years. No major complaints. My subscription is going to end at the end of this month. Was wondering if I should renew PIA or try something new. I only use the VPN for Torrent and my main use case is speed for downloading and Killswitch so I don’t get copyright notices. Are there better alternatives out there? Also haven’t heard the best things about the parent company of PIA. Thanks

Ethernet run advice needed

Hi all - I’m having a cabling technician come to the house to install a few Ethernet runs. He will also mount my TV on this wall. I want an Ethernet connection for my media devices, Apple TV, Xbox etc. the media shelf is a hanging shelf which is flush to the wall. This is in the finished basement of my townhouse. Is there any way to get a Ethernet run here or should I settle for wifi.

FYI the room on the right is a washroom and my modem/router is also in the basement in the utility room about 10 feet from the media shelf. Trying to figure out if it’s even worth it to go through the effort of Ethernet here or would it just be a nice to have. Thanks

Kohler PureTide leaking from the handle

I got the Kohler professionally installed about a week ago. I bought it off Amazon. I’ve had the same model in a different bathroom for about 5 years with no issues. Today it started dripping from the handle, there’s no issue with the installation or plumbing connection it’s a Kohler bidet handle issue. Has anyone experienced this? What are my options?

Pretty disappointed in Kohler. Even if they give me a new one I’ll have to pay to get it professionally installed.

Reliance trying to upsell Google Nest thermostat

Hi, I just bought a home with a reliance rental tankless water heater and air handler. It’s a Rinnai system. I called reliance to inquire about smart thermostat. The sales person immediately said Google nest is the best option for me. I asked about Ecobee and they said that works better for heat pump systems and was pushing the Google nest. I don’t know much about HVAC but I know enough when someone is trying to sell me something that I don’t need.

Can anyone verify these claims? I don’t even care for the extra bells and whistles. I just want a system that works with iOS and I can control with Wi-Fi.

LG OnScreen Display equivalent for MM

Hi I have an LG monitor and plant to switch from PC to MM. I became pretty used to using the LG OnScreen Display app on the PC. I find that the native macOS does the same thing but just not that well. Are there any apps which are comparable to onscreen display?

Switching from Dell to MM, concerned about “software”

My wife recently bought me a M4 base model Mac Mini. I’ve been using a Dell for several years. I really like how snappy the Mac is but I also have several, not too many pirated apps like Pro versions of popular PDF editors. I was wondering how reliable the Mac versions are of the pirated software, should I make a switch or will I regret it later?

Proton or PIA for torrenting?

Hi I only use a VPN for torrenting. My PIA subscription is going to expire soon. I’ve had a pretty good experience so far in terms of price, and speed. Customer service was also pretty responsive. I’m wondering if I should renew or switch to proton. Would appreciate any advice considering my use case is only torrents.

PIA VPN alternative recs

Hi I’ve been using PIA VPN for almost 2 years. I got it because someone told me port forwarding is important when I’m torrenting. I mostly just download so speed is the most important thing to me. My PIA subscription is going to finish this month. Should I continue with PIA or get something else? Thanks

How are people using Deco or Asus APs if Gigahub can’t be used in bridge mode?

I’ve seen a few people recommend to avoid using the Bell pods and use deco, eero etc. instead but I wonder how is that possible since other post said the gigahub can’t be placed in bridge mode. So are they running two different networks?

Thanks
