Does anybody else feel awful complaining at restaurants?

I would want my guests to tell me if something is wrong. Yet I feel like garbage when I do it myself!

Had a celebratory solo lunch today after a big personal win. Ordered their $6 feature lunch rose. It was a bit off, but I wasn’t going to complain at $6. My lunch comes and I order a pint to go with it.

Panini arrives, first couple bites are great. Then I notice a hair on the bread which I would normally

pull off and carry on. However, the outer cheese crust had melted it into the bread. I then also see another hair coming out of the sandwich. Not sure if it’s the same one and just the end of it. I didn’t investigate.

Server offers a new one but I was honestly put off by this kitchen and just want to go get lunch elsewhere so I ask for the bill for the drinks. The bill arrives and I realize I don’t want to sit there hungry and drink a full pint of beer. I have an internal debate about staying or leaving, or paying full price and just leaving the beer. In the end I then ask if possible for that to be removed too, I just want to leave. Server is very nice, takes it off.

I receive the bill and I still get charged the taxes on the comped items. So I pay almost $5 in taxes for a $6 glass of wine. I feel like I can’t complain again so I just pay it and leave. But now feel like garbage hahah. Why can’t I just be normal!!!

Tell me about the most haunted restaurant/bar you’ve worked at

Please tell me your stories! Would love location if you’re able, as I love traveling to handed places.

I’ve worked in SO MANY places that are haunted, and I feel like I’m fairly in tune with the supernatural so maybe I feelore than others. Although I still sadly haven’t seen a physical ghost.

I have a lot of stories, but the best was a bakery at worked at called Phipps. Long story short, this ghost hated me, I can assume it was because I was doing some digging about it and what the space used to be. Regardless, it’s the most negative spirit I’ve ever experienced, and even driving by the area still freaks me out. The worst of what it did, minus pounding on walls, locking doors, and just a general feeling of uneasiness, was it threw a bucket lid at my head. I was a cake decorator and was working on a cake. I had a bucket of water next to me that noticed was shaking. I had some odd thoughts like ‘there’s no subway under me’ and such and was transfixed on the water and what would be doing that. Then I was smoked in the face with a bucket lid that was in the top of my station. Caught me completely off guard, and hurt, and I knew exactly where it came from. I feel for anybody still working in that building.

Tell me yours!!

Are there products I don’t need to wash daily that keep frizz in check?

I have very thick and frizzy hair that I wash 2-3 times per week to avoid a giant puffball. I recently started a job where I have to/choose to put more of an effort into my appearance. I find a slick back bun, pony or braid works best with my skill level and time allowance. That being said, I’m using gel or hairspray to keep the frizz slicked back. I don’t want to wash it every night and am worried about build up and flaking. Any product advice?

Insight on these cheese curds?

Stopped at a farm and picked these up in a cheese region we were driving through. I’ve had a lot of cheese curds in my life but have never seen any like this? They were fairly uniform and looked like they were cut into squares. They were still in some whey, which the girl at the shop says they stay fresher this way. I tried doing my own research but to no avail. Can anybody please explain these? Are they a step before the traditional bagged and dry cheese curds I am used to?

Help with an online event school/course??

I have worked in hospitality for over 20 years, with 10 of them being event focused. I want to transition into corporate events, as I want to have weekends to spend with my family. The only schools near me offer hospitality event programs, which will teach me little of what I am looking to learn/would not help my resume. The online ones I've found are evenings only, which as a hospitality worker, I am working.

Would anybody recommend course on Coursera or QC Events? Would this help my resume at all to be hired outside of hospitality? Any feedback would be majorly appreciated!

Can my landlord tell me I can’t park my bike on the side fence?

We have been parking our bikes there for 15 years. They are currently in the middle of trying to evict us for personal use and are being extra difficult about every single thing.

We were told today as they have workers coming that we need to move our bikes, as it makes parking difficult. There has always been parking there with no issues previously. There is a spot further down the drive where we can lock them that will not interfere with parking, but he says no. Says if we don’t move them, he will remove the locks in 48 hours and throw them out himself.

I worry if we put them in the backyard and they pull a vehicle in so deep that we won’t even be able to get them out. There is also no spot to lock them in the backyard and I worry for their safety, as we live in Toronto. We use them daily for commuting to work. Any help appreciated.

Who to Follow-Up with after interview?

My first interview was with the head of HR and one of the directors. My second interview was set-up by the HR guy, but it was solo with the VP. She said I should hear back from the HR guy early this week, but I have not. I want to send a follow-up, but not sure who to send it to? Should I send it directly to the VP and cc the HR guy? Send it as a message to them both? Only one of them? Please help!

Does a landlord need to let us know they are moving our stuff?

Came home to find all of our backyard furniture moved into the alleyway for no known reason. Was surprised and am curious if they can just decide to move all of our stuff or take away access to the backyard.

Landlord wants us to pay for our deck

There is one very bad board on our second story deck that has been deteriorating for years. We have had termites in the backyard, the backyard tree is fully eaten by them, which is about 20 feet from the deck. We have also seen carpenter bees under this specific spot, both which our neighbour and us let the landlord know about. He says neither have anything to do with this.

The second picture is some damage on the handrail from planter boxes we had up there. The landlord (who never fixes anything and our house is literally falling apart) is refusing to fix it without us paying. He says we must split the cost, as the planters we had on the handrail caused water damage that caused this rotting. The third picture shows other holes in the deck in the opposite side although not as bad.

We are not asking to fix the handrail, just the one board that is a safety hazard for us and our cats. But he says he must fix it all, and is blaming us for all of it. Any advice on what we should do in this situation?

How many calories is too little that will inhibit my weight loss?

I generally aim for 1700 a day. I am moderately active and work on my feet. My energy levels are fine, but I also live on caffeine. I recently started a job where my schedule is completely different and I honestly don’t have time to eat more than one meal before my shift and can’t eat during. By the time I’m done, it’s late. I just worry if it’s too low (right now I’m around 700 for the day) that it will affect my weight loss in a negative way.

I could easily (and happily) drink a few beers or eat some nuts to get my caloric intake to the right level. Just curious if I should just leave it and enjoy the perks for now.

Why do people choose chain restaurants over independent?

I find the food and service standards are much lower. So genuinely curious what drives people to them.

Does uber own skip?

Uber had issues (at least here) with their tablets this weekend, where the app got deleted and factory reset. They sent a QR code with instructions to get it operating again. My team followed the instructions and the tablet came a skip tablet… it’s bizarre
