The Lowest Possible Ult Cost For Swarming Scion On A Pure Necro

As far as I know this is the lowest possible ult cost you can have for swarming scion as a pure necromancer, it could certainly go lower if you used the sorcerer's daedric summoning skill line but then you'd lose the class masteries. Not that it matters much as with necrotic potency and trample with major heroism buff you're reaching 135 ult almost instantly in battles with many corpses about.

This number was achieved using the imperial race with the red diamond passive, the blessing of the potentates set, the vampire lord set whilst being stage 4 and the shapeshifters chain. The set up isn't amazing as you sacrifice quite a lot of sustain and recovery although if you were to use the perfect scion ult instead the vampire debuffs could at least be mitigated against.

Also I should add that this build isn't fully complete yet as I intend to use the scribing class mastery stuff too in order to further boost the core attributes, I'm not sure about monster sets but something that adds damage and/or recovery would probably be the best choice.

Hot take: The necromancer class should deal a ton of oblivion damage

To get straight to the point the necromancer's kit is in large part not built around spammable rotations with high burst damage, not unless you use corpseburster and build around that but other classes have skills and rotations that just feel smoother to use in that department.

This is oftentimes not a massive issue in PvE as stuff is quite predictable there but it's a whole different story in PvP. Big parts of the necromancer buff or build around DoT effects and CC which oftentimes comes short of pure burst DPS in PvP where you can get annihilated in half a second if you're unfortunate enough to run into a very good player with the right gear set up.

Personally speaking I think it would be boring to just make necromancer like all the other classes, classes should feel unique and the same goes for necromancer. As a result I think that the necromancer's DoT effects should do oblivion damage and the class passives should also boost the damage type in a variety of ways. Making it's minimum damage scalable with weapons and spell damage, inflict some random status effect and also be able to crit.

That way the necromancer would get a pretty unique roll in PvP, not as another burst DPS class but rather as a creeping doom that's able to lay claim to all souls on the battlefield. It fits thematically at least I think, for death to be this inevitable fate that takes us all, even the most durable and healthy of us.

I wished snaccing was more than a novelty for vampires

Felt a bit hangry and cute so took some pics with fengs :3= and then I started thinking about how I otherwise rarely do it. It'd be cool if vamps could enter these feed animations from the vampire drain too and have it supercharge you or something, like give you stacks that boost your stats and restore your health. Heck maybe even allow you to extend blood scion through feeding.

PvP matchmaking should be based on power score of characters

Let's face it, skills in combat doesn't matter for shit in PvP unless the involved players use builds that are perfectly balanced in power with one another. A random questing PvE build is never ever going to win against a optimized PvP build yet most players in BGs use their random PvE questing gear simply because they joined BGs as an afterthought to try and get that sweet daily bonus xp from random BG matches.

I don't see why this shouldn't be the case either from players' perspective, I certainly know PvE players hate getting farmed by PvP players and proper PvP players probably get bored when never getting to face off other PvP players. Like matches certainly get boring when all you need to do is to sneeze in order to win, there's no adrenaline rushing action in that.

The only ones that would hate it are the "git gud" crowd that can only find enjoyment in crushing others that never had a fighting chance and then pretending that they're somehow better than you for simply playing with stronger shit. Like if they are as good as they claim to be they'd still dominate matches even after dropping their high sustain/damage and tanky DK/werewolf build in lieu for questing PvE builds.

Those same players will also complain about PvE players joining PvP with PvE builds when they'd actually hate for us to go in with optimized PvP set ups because then we'd no longer get farmed nearly as easily. The ant stomping would turn into evenly matched bar fights and they'd actually hate it.

So yeah, matchmaking should be based on build power level. Stuff like resistances, max attributes, sustain, gear sets, proper traits and enchantments with the right mythics and PvP skills on top of a ton of combat passives and food/drinks/pots matter. All of that should be brought into consideration when matchmaking players, someone with 17k HP should NEVER encounter another player with 40-50k HP.

It'd be cool if all the transformations were permanent like with the werewolf

And to preface by "permanent" I simply mean that they'd last far longer and have the option for you to build for them to become sustainable or maybe even upgraded. Like have the vampire lord set give you the ability to remain in blood scion form by sucking people, have a set for the necromancer to extend bone goliath by consuming corpses and maybe have the shapeshifter's chain mythic significantly extend transformation durations. Heck maybe even have that mythic allow you to transform into a werewolf behemoth, bone colossus or a vastly stronger vampire lord for a small amount of time if you transform when at 500 ultimate. It'd be so neat I think :3

Did Mannimarco ultimately fail in what he was aiming for?

So it's been well established that Mannimarco's final goal was achieving Godhood (at least there's not more to it than that from what we know) and his first attempt was trying to usurp Molag Bal in the second era but that didn't go over so well. Then in the third era he would both succeed and fail at the same time by partly becoming the Necromancer's moon yet still having a separate version of himself stuck on Nirn.

We haven't really seen of him since apart from Oblivion (maybe) but that Mannimarco didn't seem to hold any plans related to his past events. It didn't seem like he was trying to ascend the rest of himself to Godhood and the Necromancer's moon seemed to be totally absent from the equation and this celestial body doesn't seem to do much of anything apart from being a black soul gem dispenser.

Idk, it seems like a very insignificant legacy for someone that held himself to such high significance and maybe that's intentional. This leads me to wonder whether Mannimarco ultimately was a failure, that he didn't actually succeed at all. Instead of becoming the next God of Scemes he's just... a moon.

For all we know he might be completely comatose in his "god" form and not capable of doing or comprehending anything. Maybe his soul ascended but became isolated due to his body being left on Nirn and such he became a god with no ability to make use of his Godhood. He's been very quiet and I find it hard that this would've been the case if he had succeeded in actually besting Molag Bal.

Like where is his presence? Where are his plots? Did he give up? Did he fail and has permanently become incapable of acting out his schemes? Has he become a dead god?

Are there any lighter alternatives to Lorerim for potato PCs?

Not expecting to find anything that can match it of course but something that looks a lot nicer than vanilla Skyrim would certainly be neat to find. Lorerim did seem pretty cool but the 600GB storage + high cpu and gpu requirements puts it firmly off limits (as I only have one 1TB SSD, AMD Ryzen 5 5500 cpu with 3.60 GHz and a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 with 8GB VRAM). I'm hoping to at least get 60fps on 1080p but hopefully better.

Should the "Call The Dead" ability from the Undead Avatar be added to the necromancer as part of their refresh?

I never delved into infinite archive before and still need to do it at some point but apparently that mode gives you access to some unique transformations not normally available. As I was recently pondering over a potential lich skill it came to my knowledge that the devs apparently have already experimented lightly with the idea as part of a transformation in IA.

The most notable aspect of this transformation is the opportunity to use the "Call The Dead" synergy which apparently let's you summon five ethereal tombstones that raise a half dozen or so undead minions to fight by your side until they get destroyed. This basically gave the necromancer fantasy without necessarily even being the necromancer class which certainly is... odd.

I remember buying the Elsweyr expansion when it first launched solely for the necromancer class and I wasn't alone in feeling like the necromancer felt quite lacking as a summoner class. It definitely felt more like a death knight than a mage summoning the undead.

Since this "ability" already exists could it potentially be added to the necromancer class? Maybe as an ultimate by being an alternative morph to the skeleton goliath? Could they potentially expand the undead avatar concept into a full lich and drop it alongside the necromancer refresh like with DK and werewolf?

Probably very hopeful thinking on my part and especially now but it'd be neat and it's fun to speculate either way. I did some basic concept art of what such a "curse" skill line could look like and I could certainly see this summoning ability work as a different or morphed ult to what I already suggested. In that case no major changes would need to be done to the necromancer class like completely reworking their skills.

Idk, lemme know your thoughts :3

What A Potential Lich Skill Line Could Be

For complete funsies I took the time to throw together a quick conceptual take of what a Lichdom skill line could look like. The main idea is of a "curse" line that primarily benefits "spellcaster" characters with bonuses to magicka related abilities which I feel both the Werewolf and Vampire skill lines fail to provide. Written below are the descriptions for the unmorphed max lvl skills and passives for the skill line.

Ultimate Ability

Summon Bone Goliath IV - Cost 1 Soul Gem:

Call upon dark forces to conjure forth a massive skeletal behemoth that swipes at an enemy 260 Magic Damage and Taunting the target whilst inflicting them with Major Maim.

Once summoned you can activate Necrotic Fury for 100 Ultimate, causing the goliath to smash the ground in a 4m area dealing 4000 Magic Damage.

Active Abilities

Mask of Death IV - Cost 2300 Magicka:

Use powerful illusion magic to disguise you and your entourage from nearby onlookers for 45 seconds. The magic hides your true nature around lesser minded souls and turns hostile entities neutral. Sentries and combat breaks the effect.

Soul Rupture IV - Cost 4200 Magicka:

Summon a great soul gem in the target location that explodes after 1,5 seconds dealing an immediate 3050 Magic Damage in a 5m radius and applying the Soul Trap skill to all affected targets.

Phylacteric Siphoning IV - Cost 3700 Magicka:

Empower the phylacterys' shards swirling around you to zap all targets within a 4m radius of you for 20 seconds. Dealing 500 Magic Damage whilst siphoning 350 Magicka and 150 Health per second for each target.

Covenant of Unlife IV - Cost 5020 Magicka:

Tie your presence to all summons in your entourage to redistribute damage received equally amongst everyone for 28 seconds.

Power Word Kill IV - Cost 6400 Magicka:

Extend your ghastly hand towards a single target whilst uttering esoteric words of existential terror to instantly kill them if they are non elite tier entity under 30% health. Otherwise deal 4750 Magic Damage that increases by 100% to elite tier entities under 30% health.

Passive Abilities

Ascension:

Passively drain soul gems to maintain your unholy existence to grant permanent Major Expedition, immunity to immobiliztion, 25% increased Magicka Recovery, 5% reduced Magicka ability costs and 20% Damage Reduction to all non-physical, non-fighters guild, non-undaunted skill damage sources.

As undead receive -100% Health Recovery, -40% Stamina Recovery, -50% Max Health, 12% increased costs to Stamina based abilities and 35% increased Damage Taken by physical, fighters guild and undaunted skill damage sources.

When health is reduced to 0 automatically spend a charged soul gem to eject your soul into spirit form with full autonomy and capacity to attack. Whilst in this form skills have their costs increased by 250% and weapon/spell damage gets halved. This effect ends once your physical body is restored.

Revealing your true nature to others is a criminal act.

If no charged soul gems are available to drain then lose all positive effects.

Grave Penetration (2/2):

Increases your Weapon and Spell Penetration by 2200.

Boundless Magicka Fountain (2/2):

Increases your Max Magicka by 30%

Secrets of Undeath:

Allows you to teach the secrets of Lichdom to another player once every 7 days by returning to the Necromantic ritual site.

Undead Legion (2/2):

Creates two permanent Undead Guardsmen summons that fight besides you, each dealing 270 Physical Damage per second to their nearest target. Upon defeat they restore themselves after 30 seconds, consuming a charged soul gem in the process.

Arcane Barrier (3/3):

Automatically conjure a magical barrier around yourself in combat, creating a permanent damage shield for you that absorbs 6470 damage. Upon being destroyed the barrier takes 20 seconds to recharge and continuously drains charged soul gems to remain active. This ability replaces any other damage shields and scales off of Max Magicka with a cap of 55% of your Max Magicka.

Notes and Trivia

With this concept I attempted to capture the idea of a powerful but fragile spell caster that's mastered the arcane arts and relies on summons and esoteric spells to control the battlefield and sustain themselves. Whilst this is primarily focused on magicka based builds perhaps the lich could switch the attributes used to be stamina based through the ritual of ascension to lichdom.

Also note that whilst the image here shows is of an in-game lich of which there's already a polymorph for its anesthetics. I wouldn't think such a polymorph from crown crates would just become available but the player could still gain the flight animation npc liches have and alao gain a zombified look with glowing cyan coloured eyes.

Lemme know your thoughts :3

Is it just me or do spellcasters not really benefit from the Vampire skill line?

So I decided that I wanted to create a powerful dark sorcerer build this time around and because I have a chronic addiction to curses it was inevitable that I eventually became a vampire. Now the vampire is already in a bad spot overall but it feels even more lackluster for spellcasters.

Not only are there no major benefits you get from the passives (like max magicka, magicka regen, spell pen, etc) and the stuff that you do get such as undeath comes at a massive cost. Having your regular abilities cost at minimum 8% more magicka is a massive drawback and actively discourages you from relying on your spellcasting arsenal.

But then like what's the big deal? Vamp is bad for everyone so how is this worse for spellcasters? Well... to me at least it seems like the vampire was supposed to be the magicka based opposition to the stamina based werewolf. Whilst each curse uses both stamina and magicka there's definitely a certain dominance of one over the other. Werewolf is arguably a meta pick nowadays whilst the vampire continues to eat dirt.

Future plans for eso are of course a bit shaky right now to say the very least but hopefully this stuff will improve at some point or another. The "easiest" way would be to buff the vampire skill line although another option could be to make vampires be a hybrid based curse with a new lich skill line added as a magicka dominated skill line. Wishful thinking on my part of course but it would be pretty dope.

What traits should I as an aspiring crafter prioritize regarding research?

So of course the ultimate goal is to have everything researched but since my character seemingly grows more lazy the more traits of an item I research the last few traits take an insane amount of time to research. I've also noticed that seemingly not all traits are of equal importance for either their uses or for the specific item they're attached to.

The ice staff for instance has some passives and special effects that benefit tanking builds so I thought that the defending trait must be of extra importance on the ice staff. What other cases of things like this are there? What about the other staves? Light vs medium vs heavy armor? Shields? Swords vs greatswords vs mauls etc? There are so many things that seem to differ and what traits are preferred in pvp vs pve?

Is there any way to create player driven quests/contracts?

So here I was thinking about trying to complete my daily writs, buying some supplies from guild traders, getting blueprints and using Tamriel Trade Center to pull it off. To my big sadness however I couldn't find any listings of the stuff I needed and out of those listings that were up they had since been sold out by the time I arrived.

Trekking all across Tamriel and beyond only to never find the stuff you're searching for is more than mildly tedious and so I was reminded of something I've seen in other MMOs before... ✨️contracts✨️ :O Which allows buyers to put up postings about what they're looking for from which sellers can then go and provide for.

Now I haven't seen any options to put up contracts at any boards or guild traders in cities but it would be pretty neat imo. Maybe those contracts could even extend beyond trading and involve agreements where players can come to aid in vet dungeons or war efforts in Cyrodiil.

Idrk, the options are pretty varied and broad but at least in regards to trading I feel like it'd be pretty nice as so far I haven't seen much opportunity in the way you as a buyer can actually go about buying the things you're looking for.

Playing as a vampire just isn't fun and doesn't feel like a vampire either

So I'll preface this by saying that I'm viewing the vampire from a lense of being an alternative way of play such as what we have with the werewolf and in that regard the vampire has always faced some massive shortcomings. I'm not saying that vampire skills or passives (some of them) haven't been strong or effective over the years, they most certainly have although nowadays even that's mostly gone. No, what I'm mainly talking about is how weak and unfun it is to play as a full vampire. Even hybrid vampires suffer from that and they have it even worse as you never actually get to feel like vampire when you only pick up the skill line for a couple of passives. This problem has always existed for the vampire and wasn't really fixed with Greymoor although it did alleviate it somewhat.

The main issue plaguing the vampire skill line imo is not just the imbalance between risk/reward but primarily the lack of engagement and synergy with and between abilities/passives. For giving you buffs to movement speed it's a really odd choice for vampiric drain to be a slow ticking channel ability that's kinda meh, it doesn't really work very well. Making it a DoT with debuffs would make it feel better to use. Frenzy is also honestly more crippling than advantageous and it's synergy with mistform disappeared when that ability got reworked into a movement ability instead. This could probably be turned into a passive instead that gives you life drain on dmg dealt which increases in potency the higher vampire stage you are and the more vampiric abilities you're using. It would make it more dynamic and flexible. In it's place a new AoE dmg ability could be added such as a bat swarm or maybe just allow you to summon gargoyles or something?

In regards to mistform I feel like it needs to revert back to it's previous form as a base and allow the movement version to be a morph. It adds more build options for whether you want more survivability or mobility. Mesmerize is pretty neat but the requirement of facing your direction should be removed as that requirement is quite janky. The passives too have always been a bit of a snoozefest, inflexible and pretty meh for the most part and honestly some are quite bad nowadays. They're disconnected from your vampire abilities so you don't need them in order use or improve the passives. The only requirement is to be stage 4 to have them all unlocked, in a sense makes them "free" for almost any build to use. Undeath is probably the most notable example where tons and tons of builds pick it up for slightly more dmg mitigation without actually using any abilities from the vampire kit.

As I mentioned with a possible rework to frenzy the passives should scale according to the more vampire abilities you use. It could then also be improved further the higher your vampire stage is, so a stage 1 vampire with no vampire abilities wouldn't see any or very small benefits from passives whilst a stage 4 with only vampire abilities would push the bonuses beyond the current max. A pure stage 4 vampire could thus go back to the 33% dmg mitigation from undeath or maybe even push it beyond it for being so invested in the skill line. The abilities should also increase in power the higher stage you are. I also think the ult should be reworked so you get the old batswarm as a base with the ability morphs being a poisonous/bleed bat swarm and the other being the current swarming scion. So you get the choice between higher dps in a wider radius or more survivability. These could also be improved by another new passive that boosts ult regen/duration the higher stage you are and the more vampire abilities you use.

On top of that I think there should be something akin to the new fury system for the werewolf where the more health you drain the more you build up blood satiation and once you reach a certain threshold you such as 1000 stacks of it you ascend to a stage 5 vampire for a limited time. This stage works like the one from perfect scion where you get all the bonuses of the previous stages without any negatives, abilities and passives affected by lvl of stage also gets further boosted. The duration of it though is affected by the stage you started from, so if you ascended from stage 1 you'd only get a couple of seconds of stage 5 whilst if you came from stage 4 you'd have something like a minute of it.

Those are just my thoughts though as I really like the idea of playing as a vampire but I just never actually feel like a vampire playing it and vampire in it's current state is also quite weak. Hopefully it gets the love it both needs and deserves so it not only becomes fun and viable to play as a vampire but also to distance it from an all-rounder archetype to being an alternative way to play the game. Not all builds should require vampire just like not all builds require werewolf.
