Online Dating Changed Me

I'm 27M, and dating has changed me in ways I didn't expect.

I've been on a lot of dates and met many women. After every failed date, I tried to figure out what went wrong and learn from it. Eventually, I realized that I wasn't just getting better at dating. I was becoming a different person.

I used to be very honest and transparent. I was comfortable being vulnerable and telling someone who I really was. I didn't feel the need to play games or carefully think about what someone wanted to hear. I would just say what I actually thought.

But with time, that changed. I started getting better results when I played games, exaggerated things, and presented myself in a way I thought women would find more attractive. I started choosing which parts of myself to show and which parts to hide.

I also became less curious. I talked more about myself and asked fewer questions. I stopped being as vulnerable. I stopped giving advice. I even started thinking twice about simply being nice.

I learned that being too honest can remove the mystery, being too straightforward can make you boring, and being vulnerable can sometimes give someone the "ick". Whether all of that is actually true or not, I started believing it because I saw it work.

Eventually, I realized that online dating is a game. There are certain things you can say and do that simply work better, and once you start seeing that, you naturally start changing the way you behave. You stop thinking about what you actually want to say and start thinking about what is going to get you the best result.

The problem is that I don't really like who I'm becoming.

I don't want to manipulate people or constantly calculate what to say. I don't want to exaggerate myself just to seem more attractive. But I also can't deny that some of these things have worked better for me than simply being honest and being myself.

I'm not blaming women for this. I'm a grown man and I take responsibility for how I've chosen to adapt.

I'm sharing this because this is how I've experienced online dating, and maybe someone else can learn from it before they go through the same thing.

Moving to Copenhagen in August – Struggling to Find an Apartment in Lyngby, Need Advice

Hi everyone!

I'm moving to Denmark and will be relocating to Copenhagen on August 1st to continue my doctorate as a Research Assistant at DTU. As part of that, I'm looking for an apartment in Lyngby.

What has really surprised me is how difficult it is to find a place there. The number of available apartments seems very low, while there are so many people looking to move to the area. The waiting lists are also quite long, which makes the process even more challenging.

I have been searching since April and have already checked most of the popular housing websites, including:

  • Bolighub
  • BoligPortal
  • BoligZonen
  • Properstar

Despite this, I still haven't managed to find a place.

I would really appreciate any advice or guidance from people who have gone through this process. How did you find your apartment? Are there other websites, Facebook groups, rental agencies, or strategies that helped you secure a place faster?

If you know of any available apartments in Lyngby or have any tips for finding and booking one as soon as possible, I would be very grateful.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Does anyone else notice dating apps being more active at certain times of the year or week?

I’ve noticed something weird with dating apps and I’m curious if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

For me, my match rate is higher in summer compared to winter or other seasons. The difference is actually pretty noticeable, especially with women who seem to be more into going out, parties, beach days, and having an active social life.

I’ve also noticed the same thing on Sunday nights. For some reason, I usually get more matches compared to other days.

So I’m wondering, is this because people are more active on dating apps during these times? Like, are people just bored on Sunday nights and opening the app, or does the algorithm somehow push profiles more during certain periods?

And for summer, do you think the higher match rate means people are genuinely more interested in meeting someone, or is it more about wanting someone to enjoy the summer with?

Has anyone else noticed a pattern like this?

The “Be Funny” Trap in Online Dating

Online dating is getting worse in a way, mostly because everyone has too many options now. People match fast, get bored fast. If something doesn’t stand out immediately, it’s over.

Women always say they want a funny guy, but on apps it feels like you’re supposed to be funny from the first message, before there’s even any vibe or context.

But that’s not really how humor works. It needs timing, some comfort, and knowing the other person a bit. Most jokes just don’t land in chat anyway because there’s no tone or reaction.

And then you’re stuck in this weird in between. If you’re too funny, it feels like you’re not serious. If you’re too serious, you’re boring.

So you end up guessing the whole time what version of you they actually want, without any real signal from them.

How do you even navigate that without it turning into either forced jokes or dead serious small talk?

Question for women: why say "I'm waiting for someone" when approached, but then keep the conversation going?

I am 28M and I've had two pretty similar interactions lately that I'm still trying to make sense of.

Both times I approached a woman in public, nothing weird, just respectful and normal. I actually started the conversation by asking if she was waiting for someone, and both times she said yes.

I didn't push back or challenge it, I just kept talking for a bit. But in both cases things shifted after a minute or two. Turned out neither of them was actually waiting for anyone. They stuck around and kept talking instead of leaving, and in one case she ended up asking if I was free that night.

So I'm trying to understand what's usually going on there. Is saying "yes, I'm waiting for someone" sometimes just a default safety response when a stranger approaches and asks? Or does it depend more on how the guy comes across?

I'm also curious how much tone and body language factor into it. I've got a pretty neutral, kind of stoic resting face, so I wonder if that changes the first impression people get.

31M - Facial volume loss despite weight gain, doctor recommended fillers, looking for real experiences

I’m a 31 year old male, and yesterday I visited a cosmetic surgeon to discuss concerns about my face.

Recently, I’ve been getting a lot of comments from friends and family saying that I look like I’ve lost weight. The strange thing is that I haven’t lost any weight in the past 6 months. In fact, I’ve gained weight. However, it does seem like my face has been losing volume over time, especially around the cheeks.

During the consultation, the doctor suggested that mid-face and jawline enhancement could help, and mentioned that this is typically achieved with fillers. Skin stimulators or biostimulators such as Sculptra or Juvelook were mentioned as alternative options, but not as primary tools for structural volume changes.

I’m a bit skeptical and didn’t immediately accept the recommendation. It’s hard to know how much of this is necessary vs. elective, and I’m still trying to understand the options.

I wanted to ask people here, especially those with experience using fillers, skin boosters, Sculptra, Juvelook, or similar treatments.

A few questions:

  • If you stop getting filler injections, does the face tend to look uneven or lumpy over time?
  • Once fillers wear off, does the face age faster if you don’t continue maintenance?
  • Which fillers are reversible and which are not?
  • For cases of facial volume loss, what did you personally try first, and why (fillers, biostimulators, skin boosters, or other approaches)?

Looking for honest experiences, both positive and negative. Thanks

Thinking about LASIK at 30 with high myopia (-7.05) and astigmatism (-1.50), worried about night vision

Hello friends,

I’m 30 and looking into LASIK or other vision correction options. Still in the research phase and trying to decide if it’s worth it.

My prescription is -7.05 in both eyes with -1.50 astigmatism.

Main reason is pretty simple: convenience, better quality of life, and not relying on glasses or contacts all the time.

One thing that’s been confusing me is that I know quite a few people personally who had the surgery, and they all encouraged me to do it. None of them ever really mentioned night vision issues on their own though. It was only when I asked directly that a few of them said they do notice things like glare, halos, or starbursts at night.

That honestly surprised me a bit, because it feels like a pretty important detail, but it just doesn’t seem to come up unless you specifically dig into it.

What I keep getting stuck on is night vision after surgery in general. I’ve seen people talk about halos, glare, starbursts, and just overall reduced clarity when driving at night. Some say it gets better over time, others say it mostly fades but doesn’t fully go away.

Since I drive at night often, this is the one concern that really matters to me.

At the same time, I also see plenty of people saying their results are great long term, so I’m trying to understand how common or serious these night vision issues actually are in real life.

Would really appreciate hearing from people who had similar prescriptions or long term experiences after surgery, especially if you drive at night regularly.

Face looks better in photos but worse in real life after weight loss

I’ve noticed something a bit confusing after losing weight.

In photos, my face usually looks pretty good, more balanced and sometimes even a bit more full or slightly puffy in a good way. But in real life, people often tell me I look quite different compared to my pictures.

What makes it uncomfortable is that I actually think I look better in photos than I do in person now.

After the weight loss, my face looks thinner and longer, my jawline looks less defined and more soft, and overall my face shape feels more oblong and less balanced than before. I also have noticeable hollow under-eyes and more visible nasolabial folds than before.

I’m male (30) and pretty new to facial structure and aesthetics, so I’m trying to understand what’s actually going on and whether it can be improved naturally.

From what I’ve read so far, treatments like Juvelook and other collagen stimulators don’t seem to add meaningful volume to the chin or cheeks and are mostly focused on skin quality rather than restoring facial fullness. So I’m unsure what direction actually makes sense in my case.

I’m not looking for anything extreme or risky. I just want to understand what realistically helps with restoring a bit of facial fullness after weight loss without looking bloated, improving jawline definition, and fixing the more long or soft look that became more noticeable after cutting.

At this point, I’m mainly trying to figure out what actually works in real life for this situation, especially after weight loss changes, and not just marketing claims.

What should I realistically be looking into?
