Third mixed bag is the charm huh.

So... again an episode with good and bad things. I must say I overall found it compelling and entertaining despite it's lack of action.

We are done with the "Rhaenyra would be a good/bad ruler" potentials, and we are finally seeing her in action. They are basically playing Mysaria as the angel in her shoulder and Daemon as the devil, kind of like I expected and in the latter's case, wanted.

Alicent and Helaena give some very appreciated if very limited sass at Rhaenyra, though they still kinda forget about Jaehaerys, and my hope of them ever acknowledging the poor boy's murder decreases with every episode.

Corlys pulls his inner Vaemond and oh boy, I could almost hear the seething rage in some TB fans when this happened. Needless to say, Corlys is right. Why do Rhaenyra's bastards deserve more than Corlys's?

Daemon is pulling a S8 Daenerys and daydreaming with, um... "expanding Targaryen glory to the world" or some shit and I love how much of an elitist and barely repressed violent maniac he is, dismissing the smallfolk's suffering and repeatedly goading Rhaenyra to murder her innocent half brother and his own nephew, the son of the brother he supposedly loved so much. "If the Greens hadn't usurped Daemon would have never hurt them, he only hurts those who deserve it, he loved his family so much" my ass. He's a wildcard and a menace. And I love to hate him. And no, this isn't the show "making him worse to both sides everything". This IS Daemon. He's called the Rogue Prince, not the Kind and Reasonable Prince.

Rhaenyra is basically dealing with what Aegon dealt at the beginning of S2, and like him, find herself conditioned by her enemies's actions. The Greens had to deal with the Blacks's blockade, the Blacks now have to deal with the Greens's taking away of the treasury.

I felt so sorry for the fake Daeron. Just a teenage boy caught in the games of ruthless nobles and royals.

Overall, Rhaenyra is trying to balance her good intentions, rage, self centeredness, love for her remaining family and pragmatism when dealing with increasingly tight pressure. It is admittedly interesting to see.

The Blacks being finally shown to be conflicted between each other and it's members being distinct from one another was a very welcome change from their S2 selves.

Another mixed bag of an episode.

I suppose I should expect this from this season in general. Entertaining, messy and eyebrow lifting and cringe for moments.

The good:

- I'm glad they didn't defang Daemon and he still remains the asshole in the so called good side. His scenes were very entertaining. His tension and potential rivalry with Mysaria, as well as his elitist attitude towards Alys and the Dragonseeds were nice sources of conflict. I liked the detail of him being pals with Luthor Largent. I saw a glimpse of why the Watch loves him so much beyond "he's just that charming". It would seem he treated many of them as friends rather than just subordinates.

- Aemond's assault on Harrenhal was very entertaining and we saw him being a badass of his own right, personally killing several soldiers rather than just letting Vhagar incinerate everyone. I find morbidly hilarious how his extermination of House Strong was unintentionally made less evil than in the book due to Simon willingly and even gleefully betraying the Greens, as well as Larys doing so as well with his imprisonment of Otto. As for Alys, it would seem she'll try her luck with Aemond as a benefactor after helping Daemon for... well, nothing in return.

- Corlys is being given a waaaaay more compelling arc than whatever his S2 self was meant to be. I'm overall liking the Velaryon scenes.

- Rhaenyra grieving Jace was raw and heartfelt. It's one thing the show always did right: the grieving scenes. Too bad they do not last very long but that's another matter.

- Aegon and Larys are always a win.

The bad:

- It would seem Helaena is on board with Alicent's plan to get Aegon and Aemond killed. What a compelling "redemption" for these two this is. Yaaaaaaay... I wonder if seeing Otto's head will make Alicent wake up from her devotion towards her so called childhood bestie. While I'd like that accursed friendship to fuckin end, it would also be weird for Alicent to turn on Rhaenyra for her father, given that she's currently trying to kill her own sons for Rhaenyra. And given the kinda reverent line of Alicent towards Rhaenyra in the trailers, it would seem that even if they fight, they'll reconcile soon enough.

- Yet another SA scene towards Alicent (she's reminding me of Hughie in The Boys at this point with the cheap and shock value sexual humiliation) and yet another hammering in our heads that the Greens are evil sex pests with yet another show invented sex offender in TG (first Otto pimping Alicent, then Aegon being not just a serial rapist but a consumer of medieval CP, then Larys sexually extorting Alicent, and now Wylde trying to rape her). We get it show, Greens bad, Blacks good.

- Daemon motivating Rhaenyra with the prophecy. Any mention of the prophecy is kinda eye rolling for me at this point.

- Rhaenyra not turning into a hardened and bloodthirsty woman after Jace's death and still being sensitive and hesitant to kill. Dudette, you've been ready to kill two of your half brothers since last season and you let dozens of distant cousins get incinerated to benefit yourself. GTFO with the "I do not wish to kill" nonsense. I can't take it seriously.

- They'll have to make the Blacks even dumber and self sabotaging than in the book for them to somehow not insta win this war. The Greens are atomized and scattered, with no loyalty or concern to each other nor with any competence.

Things I'm still looking forward to on the show:

Chaotic mess that it is, I'm still mildly excited about some things in the show:

- Aegon and Larys's shenanigans.

- Ormund and Daeron's journey.

- The Dragonseeds's development.

- Rhaenyra's incoming descent to darkness.

- Aemond's incoming descent to (further) darkness post fall of KL.

- Criston and Gwayne's shenanigans.

I hope nobody keeps saying that "we should be grateful for show Aemond..."

"...since book Aemond was just a cartoon villain and the show made him more sympathetic."

As of last episode, we can add "molesting his own mother" and "crowning himself King in his brother's place" to the list of things book Aemond never did, as well as "trying to murder Aegon" and "threatening to kill Helaena".

Edit: I'd gladly change show Aemond to intentionally murder Luke and remove the bullying background, if I can also erase all of the aforementioned things. Give me a psychopath loyal to his family and who focused his hatred and malice on his actual enemies.

An entertaining mess.

If I had to sum up my thoughts on season 3's first episode, that's what I'd say: An entertaining mess.

The episode had plenty of material to piss off both teams.

On TB, we have Rhaena accidentally killing her own soldiers and causing Jace's death, as well as Rhaenyra yet again saying she'll go to battle only to not be allowed.

On TG, we have Alicent and Aemond's already dead relationship being desecrated via her trying to send him to his death in Harrenhal (where an ambush was waiting for him) and via him molesting his own mother and apparently going the full Homelander route. At this point, they'll probably show Alicent being outright happy when hearing about Aemond's demise.

That being said, there are some things that made the episode, while not good per se, at least entertaining. The Gullet wasn't the unprecedented masterpiece they were hyping it up to be, but it was cool enough, I enjoyed Corlys and Alyn on one side and Lohar and Tyland on the other.

Jace taking matters into his own hands and Baela seeing some action was interesting. Rhaena intervening as an unintentional wildcard and pulling a S1 finale Aemond was kinda hilarious ngl.

The Dragonseeds scene was nice, it added some depth to Ulf.

It would seem Ormund, judging by the trailers and his actor being credited right after the main three, will have a greater role than his book counterpart, and I'm honestly kinda engaged with the potential. We finally saw Daeron, even if under a disguise, and I think we were shown him being upset at Aegon's supposed death. FINALLY some normal TG interactions, even if subtle.

Oh, and Daemon, the Riverlanders and the Winter Wolves killed Jason Lannister offscreen. That happened too I guess.

I think I'll just lowkey enjoy the chaos.

What has been your experience with feminists, both online and in real life?

While in real life I have friends that are involved in feminist causes with whom I get along just fine, my experience with feminists online has been more mixed. Some good, some bad.

Meet the Larpers of Better Rulers, Remastered Version!

I realized I had more things to point out about the two of them, both similiarities and differences, so here they are in red letters.
