Fuck Fireworks

I am sure this will piss people off, but as the title says. I was never a huge fan of them, like okay cool big things blow up, it's time to grow up. The city ordinance is til 11:45 and people are waiting until 11 to even start theirs. Great thanks, now I have a 2 year old that was just woken up shaking like crazy because they are so scared.

I opened his window and pulled the curtains back to try and show him it's okay and that was worse.

My biggest hot take on the subject isn't even necessarily about me though. For a country that prides itself on how much they love their veterans and man's best friends, sure love throwing them into disarray for an entire week.

If you absolutely need your fix, go to a planned and professional show that's away from people's homes. Don't shake my windows because you had to buy the daddy of all fireworks to stroke your ego.

Here's to all the dads struggling right now.

Good luck and God speed.

KBG discoloration MI

Had this sod put in 4 years ago and everything has been fantastic. The only issue I have had is I cannot understand the slight discoloration between the top and bottom. When the company installed this, they ran out at the point where it turns lighter, but came back the very next morning. This is the only spot that is like this in the whole yard. I have already put down my 2nd application a few weeks ago, normally when I do this, the color matches after a couple days, except this time it stayed the two different shades.

This all is the exact same grass, from the same farm, would it really be that big of a difference, and what are potential reasons for this and how to remediate?

Help settle a movie theatre debate

I have a 2 year old son and my wife wants to take him to see Toy Story 5 at a matinee showing. I am vehemently against this for multiple reasons. But mostly because he's 2. He's not going to sit still for more than 10 minutes and I'm not chasing him around the theatre. That is very inconsiderate to others who want to go to see a show. I'm not insane right?

First time doing this, learned some things. Need to improve, but over all happy.

Had a fence post that was completely rotten away. Finally decided to tackle it this weekend and overall I'm happy with how it turned out. I learned some things that I need to do better as I replace the rest.

I decided to try and reuse the same hole so I dug up the old post and rented a small jackhammer, I definitely should have gotten a bigger one to break up the concrete easier.

The original post was only 2' down and had been there over 20 years so I thought why not just leave it as is.. it's a bit wobbly, so I definitely will go deeper next time.

My rails are not 100% level and I didn't notice until after I started putting the pickets up. My level said everything was okay, but upon closer inspection the 2x4 was warped a bit where I had it and made it seem level.

Any other tips that you can offer? Be kind, I'm definitely not a pro.

Flashing for bottom stringer on floating privacy fence?

I'm replacing sections of my fence as needed and going from a shadow-box style to a floating privacy style. This may seem like a stupid idea, but genuinely asking.

I am putting a flashing on section of the post where the soil would touch it to protect it from rotting (5-6 inches above the concrete). Is this necessary/worth it?

Is it smart to put flashing on the bottom stringer to protect the wood from being torn up from weed whacking?

How many pages is your internal infrastructure documentation and what does it cover?

This is kind of a pat on the back for myself as I have been to places where documentation is hard to find if it even exists at all. But I am just curious to hear what others internal documentation looks like and how long and detailed it is. I am revisiting my documentation after over a year because it needs updating and am wondering what else I should add to it.

In total mine is 50+ pages for 3000 user company with 7 different buildings. Currently goes over how our automated user account process works. What each physical and virtual server IP, iLO passwords, and purpose is along with any special application update instructions. How backups work and how to access. VLANs and DHCP scopes, network Diagrams, are all laid out. All intune groups, autopilot, and application install how tos are provided. And we have a password protected USB where the password is on a separate USB that holds all of our break glass accounts.

The 10 rings in Iron Man were fools

I'm currently watching Iron Man and when Tony escapes captivity and is in the car, he says "I've been in captivity for 3 months I want an American cheeseburger."

He was in the mountains in Afghanistan with the 10 rings for 3 months and they didn't bother checking what he was building? There's even the shot where Raza sees him building a mechanical leg. That cave couldn't have been so big they wouldn't have easily been able to find the Mark 1 suit.

Regardless this movie is in my top 5 MCU of all time.

What is the magic words to use with customer service

I have been on the phone and in chats with customer service trying to reset my gateway admin console password. I have tried every combination of "I need to reset my Xfinity gateway password" to "I need to have my router admin password reset" and everything inbetween. Not a single person has understood what I am asking for. What the hell are you suppose to say?

What kind of car would you buy with my needs?

I currently have a 2024 Ford Ranger I want to get out of because while I can afford the payments with ease, I don't enjoy spending $550 a month.

My commute is about 50 miles round trip and I use my vehicle on average an additional 30 miles per week. I need to be able to put 2 car seats in it that would get used every single day.

My biggest concern is the milage and wear and tear. I have typically bought new just for this reason. But I made a mistake with the truck, as much as I love it. White my mileage usage and needs, what type of car would you look at and how many miles would be too many for you?

Am I wrong for switching the order of BS2 and BS3?

I got introduced to Ramsey about 3 years ago, and I think his methods for the most part really help the average person get a grasp on things. I have been able to slowly get my wife to follow along with some things like combining finances and building up to an emergency fund. While we are technically on Baby Step 2, we are building out our emergency fund first as we are able to comfortably afford our bills every month. I fully understand the purpose behind the order at which the baby steps are in. Limit the amount of debt you pay because that money can make you interest instead. But I don't necessarily agree with Dave that you're doing it wrong if you do them in reverse.

My wife (28F) and I (28M) only have car loans (~65k) I paid off the remaining $16k of student loans last year (finally!). We have a 2 year old and another on the way we just found out about last week, they will be here Nov/Dec. We save about $1,600 a month not including what we put away in our 401k each paycheck and will have a full 6 month emergency fund by the time baby #2 is here ~$50k. When #2 gets here we will be having to drastically reduce savings to less than $300 a month for a while as we will have 2 kids in daycare. If I will still be able to save, albeit very little, while 2 kids are in daycare, is it not the right thing to do to save up my 6 month emergency fund first before dumping extra money into loans?

Or

Would you pay off the loans as fast as possible and try to build back some sort of savings after?

Edit: Adding income and monthly costs.

Gross Income combined is about $175k

$2,500/month mortgage

$900/month groceries

$750/month 1/2 day daycare

$400/utilities and Internet

$650/month gas

$1050/month 2 cars
