I accidentally made my entire hostel think I was missing.
This happened during my first semester of college, when I was a freshman.
There were eight of us in our friend group, and we used to prank each other all the time. One day, while messing around, I took things a little too far and seriously annoyed one of my friends. He spent the whole evening looking for me because he wanted to get back at me.
To avoid him, I went to another friend's hostel room after dinner. The funny part? I accidentally left my phone in my own room. We had dinner around 9 PM, and I stayed in my friend's room until around 1 AM. His WhatsApp notifications were turned off, so he never noticed that everyone was trying to contact us.
Meanwhile, my friends couldn't reach me because my phone was sitting in my room. After searching everywhere, they started thinking something had actually happened to me. They checked classrooms, the campus, and eventually reached my hostel. At one point, they even searched the room where I was hiding. Since I thought it was all just another prank, I whispered to my friend, "Just tell them I'm not here." I hid quietly while they searched and left.
Around 1 AM, I finally decided to go back to my room.
As soon as I reached my hostel floor, I saw around 25–35 people standing there. The moment they saw me, everyone started shouting, "He’s here! We found him!"
I was completely shocked.
Then I realized this wasn't a prank anymore. My classmates, seniors, hostel wardens, and even faculty members had gotten involved because everyone genuinely thought I had gone missing.
Still thinking I could joke my way out of it, I casually said, "I was just downstairs playing games."
That didn't go over well.
Everyone was furious. They started asking where I had been and why my phone was left behind. Realizing how serious the situation had become, I quickly made up an excuse and said I wasn't feeling well, had fallen asleep, and didn't hear anyone trying to contact me.
Thankfully, they believed me enough to let it go, but the amount of chaos I accidentally caused that night was unbelievable.
TL;DR: I hid from one friend after pranking him, left my phone in my room, and accidentally convinced my entire hostel that I had gone missing. By the time I came back, around 30 people—including wardens and faculty—were searching for me.
