Probably been asked to death, do you like Eddie Brock and Venom better as antiheroes or villains?

Here’s my personal take, please don’t downvote: I’m okay with Venom going up against more evil villains (like Carnage or Knull) and not hunting innocent civilians. But kind of like Harley Quinn for Batman, I think writers have gone way too far with making him into a hero. I know he’s called the lethal protector and all that, but I think there should be still a bit of villainous menace to him.

I remember the original comics and the 90’s animated series, and Eddie Brock was a huge asshole and the Venom symbiote was maliciously parasitic and scary. He was a downright stalker who was willing to do any fucked up thing to get back at Peter Parker. In other words, he’s a hater like Lex Luthor, Reverse-Flash and Doctor Doom.

This is going to be a hot take, but I actually think the Insomniac version did a good job of making him a “lethal protector” while still having him be a villain. That version wants to “heal the world” but is doing so by infecting everyone else with a symbiote. This to me works because it functions both as parasite’s way of survival but genuinely thinking this makes the world better instead of being an evil dictator like Knull. Unlike other people, I didn’t mind this at all. My problem with the Insomniac Venom was that is wasn’t Eddie Brock, so he doesn’t have the same level of pure spite and hatred with Spider-Man. But other than that I liked the Insomniac Venom (certainly more than the Tom Hardy version).

Anyways, that’s how I think Venom should be. If he’s going to help the innocent, it should be in a twisted and macabre way. If not, than he becomes too much like the Punisher to me.

Which designs of the “Sensational Six” do you think is the best?

Credit to kpoppsus on DeviantArt for the pictures.

Obviously this is not exhaustive since there are specific versions of the characters that have unique designs. This is just a general overview.

Who do you think is Uncle Deadly’s best performer?

Deadly is an interesting case, because with pretty much all of the other Muppet characters, the original is ALWAYS the definitive one (in the cases of preexisting puppets like Miss Piggy and Elmo, the original performer of their most well known characterization).

He may be an exception. Because while Jerry Nelson is a lot of fun in the original Muppet Show, but Matt Vogel definitely gave the character more depth and can stand on his own more.

But what do you think?

Why the number of MJ accusers are irrelevant

I see a lot of the guilters use the argument of the number of cases, but that is very fallacious in the case of Michael Jackson.

When you compare the MJ case with Jimmy Savile, Harvey Weinstein, or Bill Cosby, there are plenty of differences:

* Obviously scale is one of them. Savile, Weinstein and Cosby have had dozens upon dozens of accusers, going up to the hundreds for Savile. Jackson only has 1993 case, the 2005 trial, Leaving Neverland, and the Cascios.

* Savile, Weinstein and Cosby had a domino effect with their accusers. Once one came out, more and more followed. All of Jackson’s accusers were isolated events filled with problematic and mendacious characters. There was and continues to be no avalanche.

* The similar stories from Savile, Weinstein and Cosby were credible because the victims did not know each other and the allegations were surpressed from mainstream public knowledge until years and years later. Both 1993 case and 2005 Jackson trial were media circuses and gained non-stop coverage. All later accusers, who all knew each other, had the blueprint to copy their cases after.

*The biggest one in my opinion is that not a single Jackson accuser went to the police FIRST before seeing a civil lawyer and/or reporting it to the media. Many accusers of Savile, Weinstein and Cosby went to the police before anything else. Civil lawsuits were filed either after law enforcement got involved or often times didn’t get involved.

Sexual abuse cases have a false accusation percentage of about 6%, and only a 1/3 of sexual abuse cases ever get reported. However, given the circumstances and context of MJ’s case, I can safely say that Michael Jackson is in the small group that is the falsely accused.

Mod Request: V7.43 suit with a version of the yellow oval symbol

(The first image is from a scratch off 100 movies you must see before you die poster, in this case The Dark Knight. I want the a chestpiece like that drawing, except as an oval and not a circle. I also want the textures of the emblem to be like the one on the 70’s suit in the game.)

Ok this is going to be really weird, because I actually don’t have a PC and I only have played Arkham Knight on the PS4/PS5. But I just want someone to do it so I can see this baby realized and in action. I think other users would like this idea too.

What I want it is to take the post-Arkham City suit (v7.43) and replace the plain symbol with the yellow oval but instead of the black bat we see on merchandise and marketing, have it be the Arkham-style bat inside the oval.

I’ve always been a big yellow oval person when it comes to the Batsuit, and to see an authentic Arkham version of it (and not just a plain recreation of the Neal Adams suit like in the base game) would be a dream come true.

So who is up to task? Thank you to anyone willing to try this out. And modders, keep up the great work! Really interesting stuff has been created by you guys, and I love seeing them.

Top 30 Sesame Street Muppets, day 1

Vote for the #1 spot of the Top 30 Sesame Street Muppet Characters chart.

Rules:

  1. Each character only gets a single entry. If the two characters (i.e. Statler and Waldorf from The Muppet Show) are inseperable, they share an entry.
  2. Most upvotes win.

Was inspired by the Marvel subreddit who did similar top 30 charts of their heroes by having the community vote for them. I want to do the same here. And once this one is done and is successful, stay tune as I would also want to do a Top 15 of the human characters on Sesame Street.

What are your thoughts on Walt Disney’s original EPCOT?

This has always been a topic of fascination for me because it combines to of my favorite things: Disney and utopian cities.

Now for those who don’t know, there are plenty of books and a Defunctland video on the history of the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. So check those out.

But LONG story short, this was Walt Disney’s passion project when he died. To create a city in Florida that would be the breeding ground of latest American technologies and innovations, and would be seen a suitable alternative to suburban sprawl.

Disney World wasn’t originally supposed go be a theme park resort, it was Walt engaing in urban design. The only theme park that was planned was Magic Kingdom, and that was only added to satisfy a skeptical board of directors by giving them a surefire moneymaker, which is an East Coast copy of Disneyland.

Now what are my thoughts? I think it was a really groundbreaking idea for its time and even now. Controlled weather, having all above ground transportation be Monorails and PeopleMovers, green belts, the downtown World’s Fair, the radial design. It’s just a cool concept that sparks the imagination.

However, it is definitely flawed. For all the issues it tries to address, there are plenty of societal problems it didn’t address and we have no idea how Disney would have handled them. But the biggest problem was the fact that it was an autocratic company town. No one could own property, you had no voting rights, and you couldn’t retire. The reason was to avoid bureaucracy so it would be easier to replace technology every few years. That’s a few red flags, and even more so when you look at who Walt was as a person. He was always kind of a control freak, who liked paternalistically micromanaging the people who worked for him to get top results. This has led to spars such as the 1941 animator strike and later unionization, both of which Walt took very personally and bitterly. Company towns have a history of labor and civil rights violations, so combined with Disney’s own track record with these things definitely dampers the whole thing.

That being said, I definitely think it could have worked I’ve seen people talk about it and they often throw the baby out of with the bathwater. But there were definitely brilliant ideas. Even as far as company towns go EPCOT actually feels like a passion project trying to make the world better with an imaginative charm. Especially compared to more recent proposed projects like California Forever, Belmont and Snailbrook, which all feel like cheap vanity affairs.

I’ll say a mega hot take: Nothing personal against Walt Disney World or the other global resorts, but I have rather had seen the original EPCOT concept done right than having anymore theme parks. Because none of them in my personal opinion really innovate the playing field of the whole entertainment industry like Disneyland did. They all follow the blueprint. Of course there are individual elements of all the parks and resorts that are incredible. But this was going to be truly innovative, and I’d even say that as a social democrat, I wouldn’t mind using some of the these ideas for future infrastructure and urban planning design.

Do you think EPCOT could have worked, and if so, how could it have worked?

Elvis’ last note, telling Charlie Hodge to introduce these songs for the concerts. Thoughts?

I think this is very fascinating. Now Elvis triumphantly said in private he wanted to make the Fall 1977 tour the best one yet. Whether he would have or it would have been pretty standard as usual, is something left for alternate universes.

But presumably alongside his usual setlist (probably would have even more recordings of See See Rider, I Got a Woman, Love Me, Hound Dog, Can’t Help Falling in Love, etc.), he wanted to add these songs.

What do you think the choices? I think For the Heart is a good one to introduce live, and I am really curious if he was going to do Hey Jude properly this time instead of just adding the coda on to Yesterday.

So what’s the tea on Sally Hoedel?

I remember when this book came out and a lot of fans were singing its praises for debunking some of the myths surrounding Elvis’ health and death.

But I saw a post on here that said she is a pretty terrible person and even bullied other fans. Now I was not aware of this because I don’t follow any of the other online communties on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. All I know is the subreddit. So what’s been going on with her?

And another related question, does her behavior affect the research and information shown in this book or are they entirely separate and we can judge the book on its own merits?

Did the Henson Company ever settle the dispute with the wranglers?

I remember reading this article that detailed allegations of workplace mistreatment which includes being verbally abused, a culture that treats them as less than puppeteers, and exposure to dangerous chemicals. Back in 2022, they tried to get unionized. The Jim Henson Company denied any wrongdoing and says they treat the wranglers with the uptmost care and they respect the right to unionize.

So did anything came of it? I tried looking it up but nothing came up. Does anyone know what has happened since this was 4 years ago?

I hope Squidward realizes how loved he really is

I just wanted to post this to show that despite being a miserable narcissist, the people who he hates the most are actually the ones who genuinely care about him. It’s the small scenes that show the characters’ relationship dynamics that make me love this show so much.

What are all of the Elton songs that he has said were his favorites?

The only ones that I know he said were favorites of his were the ones he said on Colbert: Someone Saved My Life Tonight, We Fall in Love Sometimes / Curtains, Your Song, and Blessed (not fucking Crocodile Rock that’s for sure).

Are there any other songs that he has said that are favorites of his, whether they be hit singles or album cuts?

I ask because Elton is playing at Rock in Rio in September, and like every big concert you always wonder what the songs that are going to be performed. In this case, given Elton’s age and health problems, this might be the last big show that he does unless he does something in Japan since he didn’t tour over there for the Farewell tour either.

The songs I want Elton to perform are all the ones he loves and enjoys singing/playing. As shown above, there’s a mix of hits and deep cuts in there. So what are all of Elton John’s favorite Elton John songs?

Who do you consider to be the definitive voices for Mickey, Donald and Goofy?

It’s funny because usually with characters that have huge legacies and multiple actors, the original is almost always considered the best: Mel Blanc for the most of the Looney Tunes, Jim Henson as Kermit the Frog, etc.

These 3 classic Disney characters are a little trickier, given they have been around for so long with so many actors where each have done very memorable projects.

I only did these two groups because they are the most cited actors for their influence on the characters: the originals, and the renaissance. But who do you think are THE voices of the characters?

Which of Donald Duck’s sailor designs is better?

Want to do a lighthearted post.

Funnily enough, out of all the “Sensational Six”, Donald alongside Pluto has been the most consistent. And while there are other changes to his outfit that have occured over the years, these are the two designs that been the most repeated.

The first one bas a black bow tie and four white buttons on it with white stripes on the sleaves. This was the standard design from the late 30s all the way to the late 90’s. And it is still reused from time to time.

The second one has a red bow tie, zero buttons, and yellow stripes on the sleaves. For decades, it was only designed as such on some of the posters and comics. It didn’t officially debut until Mickey Mouse Works, and is now the standard design on all the merchandise and Disney iconography.

Which do you like more?

(TW: Sexual Abuse) What do you make of the allegations against Kevin Clash and his resignation?

This is a very interesting case that I haven’t seen many Muppet/Sesame Street fans talk about in retrospect (at least not as much as the whole Steve Whitmire firing). From what I have read from the time, there was a lot of division on whether or not these sexual abuse allegations seemed legitimate and truthful, or were just a whole shakedown after Being Elmo released. I honestly don’t know.

Personal anecdote: I remember hearing the breaking news back in 2012, and it was very sad to hear, both in terms of the seriousness of these allegations and that he left. He practically created* a character that I and many of us grew up with and loved, and we got to know him and his story through Being Elmo.

So I was wondering for those who have done the research, did Clash seem more likely to be guilty or innocent? Obviously we can never definitively know since he never went to court as the lawsuits were thrown out due to the statue of limitations expiring, but what can we make of what we do know now that it was over a decade ago?

*I know the Elmo puppet was around before Clash and was passed around to a lot of different performers. But pretty much everything that Elmo is today in terms of his personality, voice, and mannerisms are all thanks to Kevin Clash. He created an entirely new character, similar to what Frank Oz did with Miss Piggy.

To me, this is one of the funniest bits of slapstick in the whole show

It’s hard to explain, but it puts me in stitches every time. I think it’s the mix of Patrick trying to tell the literal rain to go away, the rain actually responding by electrocuting him, and the sheer amount of pain that you see both with the animation and Bill Fagerbakke’s yelling (which makes the whole scene even more painful yet so hilarious). It doesn’t get talked about nearly enough, any slapstick moments from the show that you guys love?
