Horror movies

Can you guys watch them?

I can watch anything but like torture, and anything truly scary may keep me awake at night. If I had someone to sleep with I’d watch more.

Any genres you can’t watch? Or do you enjoy it just fine?

I wanted to see if there’s some sort of correlation although responses wouldn’t necessarily conclude it. Eh, just for fun.

Any introverts here who initially thought they were extroverts?

I think I may have been cosplaying extroversion for a lot of my life, and probably up until a few months ago I feel like I’ve realized this all maybe was some sort of defense mechanism. Growing up I never was given much attention or positive attention. Society rewards extroversion, so maybe this is why I did it.

Anywayyyyy. I think I may actually definitely be more of maybe even an extreme introvert. Either that or it’s anxiety. Anyone else having trouble discerning?

But I tend to meet the introvert criteria more. I prefer small groups of people. The amount I want to talk to someone is basically dependent on if I relate to them or find them interesting and if not, I go mute I feel like 😆

Jobs/careers as an HSP?

What do you guys do?

I have worked basically retail and caregiving. I could do many retail settings no issue just because the interactions are very strategic and short. Caregiving I had some issues with mental and social burnout due to the constant emotional labor and constant chit chat where I feel like I have to pretend to be a different person, one who can have small talk all day.

I went from an assisted living to in home care. I feel a certain pressure to be someone I am not, and carry a lot of conversation. Clearly, it’s not for me 😆

I guess I’m just drained by small talk to the point where I actively avoid it. But anyway, now I’m going into something called land surveying which is all outside and with a small team.

Hopefully someone can relate 🤷‍♀️ I definitely feel like I am weird and anti social for this lol.

Anyone with an extremely emotionally repressed dad?

Example:
My sister had an emotional breakdown, he tried to be supportive, but he was definitely giving cues of being “done”. He said to her “can you talk to Emily(me) or your aunt? Someone you have more rapport with?”

I was the one taking care of her, trying to figure out what to do, scared for her. My dad was sitting at his desk tuning it all out, surfing the internet. I looked at him and I said “you’re the father”. He looked at me like a deer in the headlights, said “oh, yeah.”

Five minutes later he showed me a hot line number to call. I actually did appreciate that, because I was able to take her to an emergency mental health facility. But yeah, it was just so glaringly obvious that he could not deal with it. He wanted the problem to go away, he wanted to ignore it. She ended up being okay, but it was probably due to the acute stress of being a part of this toxic family.

——————————————————————-

I want to make sure everyone knows I understand and have empathy for whatever it took for him to become like this. BUT, I have become so emotionally distant to my father, seemingly because that is what he prefers, distance, that I feel like we have no relationship to speak of.

He wants to talk about people and objects, not feelings, not problems, nothing. Every conversation every day is the same. Has no curiosity about my job, my life, nothing. He’s just this incredibly awkward and repressed individual. I’ve always felt uncomfortable around him ever since I was a child.

Every conversation now after all of that drama is fake and forced. Fake and forced. How was work? Good. You? Good. Then he complains about his boss. Anything I say comes back to his boss. To the point where the conversation ends up basically being about him.

I’ve never met anyone who has had a similar father. Sometimes it just simply feels like he does not exist. Like he’s just a breathing body that sometimes talks, about nothing meaningful in particular. I don’t know him. I never did.

Anyone have an extreme empathy towards animals?

Ever since I was young I’ve always felt so bad for animals and how vulnerable they are

I’ve been off anti depressants for a few years and I’ve been a lot more sensitive. Sometimes I have intrusive thoughts about animals being hurt.

I can’t kill bugs. Can’t watch nature shows. I can’t do it. Things I’ve seen are hard to forget.

It doesn’t always plague me, but it will really make me quite unhappy at times. Sometimes I’m like, I don’t want to live in a world where there is suffering in this way. It kills me. To beings that can’t even express themselves and advocate.

Ahh… anyone else?

Had and IEP in math in high school, doing field survey program in the fall

title says it all pretty much

there was no entrance exam… just got accepted. I struggled a lot with math, actually I think I gave up on it. Recently had to teach myself how to do long division.

I know in school I will have to do math to understand the whole concept. How much math are you really doing on the job?

I am very interested in the career however I don’t want to be unrealistic.

Being in the workplace

anyone out there just feel like everything feels “hard” even when other people seem to do it MORE easily?

it’s not just the jobs themselves, it’s dealing with people, dealing with mistakes, challenges. I know, this is all a very normal part of life.

Normal parts of life sometimes just feel extremely hard. I don’t know.

I worked at a hotel and it just seemed like I wasn’t able to deal with the stress while every other person seemed totally fine. Do we just express it more?

as a HSP what career or job are you in?

Jobs you won’t do as an introvert?

I went to a school to be an Esthetician. I didn’t consider I would be talking to people alllllll day. All day. I quit that job so quickly, in the door and out.

what are some jobs that are simply out of the question for you? and what do you do currently?

Trying to balance being quiet with being polite

I think for me, I was quiet as a young child. as I’ve grown older I’ve expended an ungodly amount of time filling in silence to make people comfortable around me. I’m assuming this too energy because it’s just not my natural inclination to chat about things that don’t hold much importance to me.

I am a naturally friendly person. But I just find chitchat to be somewhat exhausting especially if it’s forced.

To the quiet people who own it or have learned to own it, how do you do it? When I am being myself, I feel rude.

at what point am I too quiet to work roles where I am working with people? I am a caregiver and sometimes I feel bad because I don’t have much to say. She seems to be alright with it, I feel I show I care through my actions… I don’t know

Consistent loneliness

I used to have friends growing up, through young adulthood. I’m 34, all of my friends have effectively disappered probably just from growing apart.

I haven’t felt a real connection in a long time. the last time it happened, it was a brief relationship which started and ended online due to me sabotaging it. go figure. It’s almost like I want to be miserable. but I don’t.

has anyone gone through this? It feels like a long dry spell. But when I really think about it, did I ever have anyone get close? Did I ever let anyone?

Is anyone out there struggling or HAS struggled with genuine relationships?

Is it normal everywhere to manually lift max assist residents?

I’ve been to two assisted livings. I love the work. I don’t know if it is going to be the right path for me, though. I don’t know if assisted living facilities are going to make the right decisions about care planning and equipment being provided.

Is this a normal thing?

Is skilled nursing better since the environment is more or less set up for heavy care?

It’s so hard on my back to reposition residents in a low bed, or transfer them from that bed to a wheelchair. Even with help it feels unsafe.

Buproprion and periods-has this happened to anyone else?

I was on buproprion max 5 days but I hated the way it made me feel. so I stopped. my period started immediately and it was the most heavy period I have had. I was exhausted. It’s now after my second period after discontinuing it, which was a bit less heavy.

however, I am experiencing depression with anhedonia. Not emotional at all, very flat. it’s unusual for me.

has anyone else experienced this? I’m worried it messed me up forever.
