Unload 120 tables into csv files from MS SQL Server

Hi,

I got a task to run 120 SP on MS SQLServer to create output and store it as a tab or csv files.
Existing approach is to use SSIS but I think it's too much work comparing with other modern tools.

What you would use for this job? I'm thinking go Python with cursor.execute(sql).
It's so much easier to scale and implement. You can read sp, params, output name from some input List and run it in one shot.

Do you see any disadvantages for this approach vs traditional SSIS. I think my bosses will be scary a bit, because they are old school.

Do

Thanks

How to use only basic token in Postman

Hi,
I'm testing one failing POST and took basic token from some curl script, and can not understand where in Postman I can type it in?
On Header tab, it's faded expecting this token originated on Authentication tab with user:password I guess.

But in my case I can not learn user:password. My token can not be decoded from base64, not sure why. Might be some custom enhancement.

Is it possible in Postman just use token for Basic Auth? Without knowing password?

Thanks

Stanford Arrillaga Tennis Center Taube Pavilion How To?

Hi,
Anybody knows is there any schedule/reservation for this nice tennis indoor, I played there 2 times on weekends, super nice. But how they work on weekdays ? Is there any schedule for booking ?

Thanks.
Also: anybody knows how to turn on lights ? On weekends nobody available to turn them ON, today one coach made them run, but looks like they are on timer, it went off. It's bit dark to play without Lights especially on the middle courts.

Tried to call all public numbers for help, nobody available, looks like Stanford phone directory is outdated.

Thanks

Create row for each value in the CSV list in MS SQL Server

  DROP TABLE IF EXISTS #x
  SELECT 111 id, '1,3,5' PU_list INTO #x

  SELECT * FROM #x

   id PU_list --< current 1 row
  111 1,3,5

id PU --< wanted output, create row for each value in List CSV
  111 1
  111 3
  111 5

Hi all,
Is it possible to create SQL Server code to produce output like posted above, I need to create separate row for each value in PU_List separated by comma.

Thanks all

Call PowerShell from Python special issue ( with Process wrapper in PS1)

Hi,
I tried to call existing Powershell script from python with classic way and failed, found the `process` wrapper in PS1 makes this problem, all code is inside process {....} :

# my.PS1
param([string]$folder="aaa")

process {  # <====== this wrapper prevent call !!!!!!
# my logic hereS
Write-Output "......... running powershell endS $TargetFolder"
}

And I call it from python using

# ... myPython.py
....
import subprocess

result = subprocess.run(
   ["powershell.exe", "-NoProfile", "-ExecutionPolicy", "Bypass",
    "-File", ps_script, "-Folder", Folder],
    capture_output=True, text=True
    )

Anybody noticed that problem, is it possible to make it work, I don't want to mess with ps1 changes. maybe I missed some option in subprocess call ?
Also there is not any output available, total silence

        if result.stdout:
            print(result.stdout) ## nothing.
        if result.stderr:
            print("PS STDERR:", result.stderr) ## nothing

Bulk upload to SSRS using Powershell

Hi all,
I used this script couple of years ago to do bulk upload, but now in 2026 could not make it work.
This is a source I used from EitanBlumin/Deploy SSRS Reports.ps1

Was able to verify $TargetReportServerUri link, it displays On in the browser.

[string] $TargetReportServerUri = "http://myssrsreport/ReportServer/ReportService2010.asmx",
[string] $ApiVersion =2010,

It fails on main Upload command

Write-RsCatalogItem -Proxy $Proxy -Destination $currTargetFolder -Verbose -Overwrite -Path $currRdl -ErrorAction Stop | Out-Null

with this message:

Have this message:
… roperties = New-Object System.Collections.Generic.List[$propertyDataT …
| ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
| Cannot find type [System.Collections.Generic.List[System.Management.Automation.Property]]: verify that the
| assembly containing this type is loaded.

Tried all suggestion and still can't make it work. Appreciate if you have hints how to solve it.

Advice for Server name vs SQL server instance names.

Hi,
I need to install SQL 2022 Standard on W Server 2022 with name something like MyServer_Alpha_N1234_bv.
Is it always good practice to have SQL Instance = Server Name ?

I don't have requirement about SQL Server name in my specs, but looks like locals do it 100% of the time. But I personally don't like so funky names. Or this can be fixed later with some aliases?

Also heard about installing SQL Server to other than OS drive, is this still true ? .

Also see in Memory specs: 8GB min. SQL should be configured to use 75% of memory for SQL itself. Are normally set this during initial installation or it can be done safely after ? What is your preference.

Appreciate your feedback and any other hints.

Thanks

Implementation routine

Hi all,
I've created one complex ETL using few SP's, main reason for this dev was to replace existing legacy process that was running too long ( 7hrs+) and was barely manageable.
During our go/no go meeting business (end) user asked me if I'm sure it will work how it claimed, how I managed to run new ETL in 1 hr if old was 6-7hrs. I said 'yes, of course, and it was verified by my peers. I used a lot optimization both in code and biz logic'.

Then user said: "OK, but I want to run this ETL for 10 days without any glitches and after that I will make my decision." Which sound like he didn't give dev team 100% trust.

I'm pretty new in soft development, is it normal ? what do you think about this approach ? Appreciate you feedback. My thought was that end user doesn't need to into all details of dev, for them it will be total transparent switch. I think if the process runs OK for 2 days it's good to go, will 10 days period add something valuable??

MS SQL Restore DB, <use dbName> string conversion question

Hi all,

I just see this interesting situation and would like to confirm that it's all done internally by MS SQL Server with Restore.
We're on the same server:

dbAA has proc myPROC:
1 use dbAA
2 Go
3 Create PROC dbo.myPROC As
............

then I do backup of dbAA, and restore dbAA.bkup into dbXXX
after that I see on dbXXX myPROC as:
1. use dbXXX --<<<==== !!!!!<@>>< changed to target DB
2. Go
3. Create PROC dbo.myPROC As
...........

Who is doing this conversion/swapping db names ? is it done by SQL Server ?
Thanks to all, I'm new to dba task and really interesting how it works.

US Passport renew in Agency, 3 weeks prior trip

Hi, all
Trying to get passport before my trip from US to Canada which is in 3 weeks as of today. Checked SF Passport Agency, they required 2 weeks prior travel date , is this a critical to have printed ticket confirmation to prove that ??
Appreciate if you can share your experience. Looks like in dedicated US Passport agencies they don't allow now walk-in and get a booking is "Extremely Hard" according their website.
But they still should allow emergency walk-ins?

Thanks

How you check quality of hard courts after resurface

Hi dear tennis gurus,
anybody has experience how to check quality of tennis courts after resurface ? to make sure that they are even enough to play. Our small group found one paving contractor to fix hard court in local community. it's on concrete. We can not work with Big name tennis companies, but probably these days technology make it easy with some self -leveling compounds.???

They will need to dig to concrete base to check if any cracks and after that they will put something to build 1-2 inches of playing surface, that how the plan.

Appreciate your leads.

Tricky interview question about .ldf size on MS SQL Server

Hi, I was applying for SQL dev position and got this question:
Q: you need to import 2.5T .csv file into MS SQL Server table. What approach you would use to avoid problems with log file size restrictions.

Didn't have experience with this case. I think if you create on the fly package with Right click import, everything will be taken care of. Am I right ? or I can somehow control /shrink .ldf file or break .csv into several pieces.?

Thanks all

Why my FAFSA application failed 2026-27

Hi,
My FAFSA Application just got rejected, even my situation is not changed and all numbers on Forms are the same between 2026 and 2026a. And even income from 1040.1a line got smaller, but I got higher SAI index which eventually is over threshold for assistance..

Anybody experienced this?
Here is my tax numbers in 1000s, and corresponding SAI.

Assets are the same for both years (Current Total of Cash, Saving) = 20K, CurrentNetworth of Investment = 50K.

Yonex VCore 285g exists ?

Hi,

I need to find another 285g racket for myself, see all recent Vcore Generations are 305. I want just pure Vcore (no VS,Tours,...) . Anybody knows if 285g version exists, older generations are OK too.

Do you know what that G stands for in a pic below?
Thanks to all

Or probably they marked somehow differently, not sure what that G stands for, this is from Gen 5 (2018).
