Kakori (ککوڑی) - a traditional deep-fried sweet from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

These were made by my mother today. They're made of wheat flour kneaded with ghee, gurh, fennel seeds, baking soda, yeast and coconut and then deep-fried. Once ready and cold, they are soft with subtle crisps and eaten with chai. They also have long shelf life and often made during local traditions as gift food.

Hyperpigmentation on face, ear and neck area.

Hi. So, my mother has a very stubborn hyperpigmentation on her face, neck and ears for a long time. And it makes her very insecure. To cut it short, I couldn't afford a dermatologist before but now I can. Before going to derm for this, I need additional advice here from dermatologists or skincare experts in this sub. If anyone has experience with this, how did you get rid of it? I would appreciate your time and response. Thank you.

Benzacide Soap users, has it worked for your acnes and bacnes?

I have bacnes (back acnes) in summer even if I regularly take showers and maintain hygiene. I want to get rid of them as they are not going away with typical soaps (Lux, Dettol etc). If you are someone who has used it for this issue, has it worked in your case? Thanks.

P.S. I also need suggestions for getting rid of hyperpigmentation left by bacnes. I've heard that Glycolic Acid works for that, but how to use it and which Pakistani brands have reliable GA?

Looking for earbuds between 4-6k

My Audionics 595 buds were good for over an year. Now the right bud has suddenly shown degradation of battery life. It picks charge in the case as shown by its red indicator light, but it hardly last 10 mins no matter how long I charge it. I have cleaned the charging connecting pins and points, but nothing changed. The left one is doing okay though. Since my experience with Audionics turn out unsatisfactory, what would you suggest as a better alternative? Thanks in anticipation.

Washing face with just plain water a few times a day

Not sure if anyone would relate to this, but i have an extremely sensitive skin. I used the SA Renewing Cleanser and Foaming Cleanser (CeraVe) on alternate days. Used to apply SA Serum (Gleebellus) alternate nights and use Vit C (Gleebellus) each day. It ruined my skin. Got super oily and sunburned easily. Then I gradually cut off all these products and starting using plain water to wash my face multiple times a day. My skin surprisingly healed and tolerated sun better. Oiliness got minimum. The breakouts entirely disappeared. All it took me were two weeks max.

Now I have switched to Skinoren and Adapco cream (alternate nights), moisturizer and zero use of face wash/Cleansers. I wash my face three to four times a day with plain water which clean the skin of oil and product. My skin has never been better! In certain cases, when it comes to skincare, the less can always be more. Can anyone relate?

Travelling to Khunjerab on Rickshaw. Madness?

A friend of mine and his brother are planning to go to Khunjerab on Rickshaw next week. Their starting point is Swat. It's their first time. I think it would be quite risky these days but I figured I should post here and seek more advice from experienced fellas on their behalf. That might clear things up for them. I look forward to your advices. Thank you.

Homemade Energy Bars

First time made these, so they were not perfect. The honey to gurh ratio was not in sync which made them slightly floppy. Honey should have been less. Or perhaps oats should have been more for a bit of more solidity. Will find out in next batch where things went wrong with texture. Taste was good though. They were made for long hiking.

Ingredients

  • Almonds
  • Cashews
  • Peanuts
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Walnuts
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Oats (I used Quaker Oats)
  • A small amount of honey (optional)
  • Jaggery (gurh), crushed
  • 1 teaspoon ghee or butter
  • A pinch of baking soda (atay ka soda)

Method

  1. Dry roast the almonds, sesame seeds, walnuts, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, and oats separately. Roast each ingredient for about 1 minute, then set aside.

  2. Turn off the stove and, while the roasted ingredients are still warm, add a small amount of honey and mix lightly.

  3. In a separate pan, add the crushed jaggery along with 1 teaspoon of ghee or butter. Heat gently while stirring continuously until the jaggery melts completely and forms a smooth syrup.

  4. Add a pinch of baking soda or atay ka soda to the melted jaggery mixture and stir.

  5. Immediately add the roasted nuts, seeds, and oats to the jaggery syrup. Mix thoroughly until everything is evenly coated.

  6. Transfer the mixture onto a sheet of butter paper (recommended). Spread it evenly and shape it into bars.

  7. Leave the bars to cool and set. Once hardened, cut them into the desired size.

Note:

My bars turned out neither too hard nor too soft, they were slightly bendy and floppy. I believe this happened because I didn't use enough jaggery. If you prefer firmer bars, increase the amount of jaggery in the recipe. In that case, the honey can be omitted altogether, as the jaggery alone should provide sufficient binding.

Scholarships & jobs

Hello everyone. Hope all are good. I got admission in Evolutionary Biology for the upcoming intake, as a second cycle applicant. I was quite excited about this opportunity until I found that scholarships are very competitive, finding jobs in Padua is not easy unless one knows Italian and so on.

Unfortunately, I didn't qualify for the Excellence Scholarship as per the results they have released. I'm from financially struggling background and I'm not even sure at this point if I should even proceed with my visa process. Regional scholarships are an option but they are given late (if one is lucky enough to secure it). I'm so confused and lost. No idea what decision I should make.

Does Unipd has any support for students at risk? Particularly the ones coming from developing countries? I'm rethinking my decision and might let go off my dream. I would not be able to survive without initial support there, i.e fee wavers and accommodation. Is it over for me? What should I do? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi. Can anyone advise about selecting minimal products for textured crop styling? Which online brands have products that are worth buying? Clay, salt spray or anything you have tried. I am looking for something that makes my hair matte, wavy (not curly) on the front, but not solid hard, if that makes sense to you.
