PT Recommendations
I usually use Sport Med at MM for PT but am interested in trying a different provider. I'm looking for someone who has some experience with runners and takes BCBS HMO. A huge bonus would be someone who offers dry needling. Any recommendations that fit the bill?
Just Got a Foodsaver and Have a Couple of Questions
Of course, I plan on vacuum sealing some meat to sous vide.
I’m thinking of cutting my own steaks but feeling like we won’t get through them all before next summer. What is the longest you’ve successfully frozen steaks before cooking them sous vide? Is 15 months too long?
Do you use the sous vide function on the Foodsaver or something else? I just read something about double sealing. Do you?
I Called 911 On My Q While He was Driving Impaired
Q was really drunk last night, per usual. He went out (Ubered) around 9:30 pm, presumably to a bar or strip club. He didn't come home. I called his phone around 7 this morning and after a few rings, it was sent to voicemail. Maybe ten minutes later he texted me saying all was good. He showed up at home around 8am and was rushing to brush his teeth and get to work. He didn't seem obviously drunk but I believe he was impaired. He claimed he went straight to the strip club, which by law can't serve alcohol. I don't believe anything out of his mouth.
He has a Tesla with full (supervised) self-driving. I told him if he drove, I'd call 911. Asked him to walk a straight line. First he was doing it with his feet pretty far apart. When I told him to do heel to toe, he had trouble. I told him he needed to Uber to work. He said he'd just call in and I said fine. He left in the Tesla.
I called 911. Told them he was using self-driving and gave them his location. They took both of our names and mobile numbers.
I sat there and watched him via the app get closer and closer to work. Never pulled over.
Shortly after his arrival he texted to ask if I had called. I responded with "why?". He replied "Because I was followed!"
I can't believe they followed him but didn't pull him over. I told 911 he was a severe alcoholic and hadn't been able to walk a straight line for me. I said he wasn't super drunk and appeared pretty normal. Don't they realize he can still be impaired?
And it's Friday. Yay, the weekend. The time of the week he is at his worst. This isn't going to be fun. Thanks for nothing officers.
ETA: Yes, I know how messed up this is. I've consulted with attorneys and leaving is not financially viable for me. I'm older and under employed.
Should I Have This Conversation w/my Son?
My Q is a severe alcoholic but has somehow managed to stay employed. We have a son in his early 20s who has somehow managed to not be present to witness most of the bad behavior but has seen more than enough. He was away at school for 4 years and now works afternoons or is out with his friends. The time he is at home his dad is at work. Q starts drinking as soon as he gets home from work every day. On the weekend, he probably starts around 9am.
He knows his dad has a problem but I'm not sure he realizes death is a likely outcome. I dread my son being blindsided if/when something happens to Q, and then asking me why I didn't say something to him. On the other hand, I don't want him to say something to him and then have him worrying about his dad's health all the time.
There was a conversation a couple of years ago after he came home unexpectedly and walked into the aftermath of his dad being violent and throwing things. He asked me why I hadn't divorced him and I explained I had talked with lawyers but found out it would be a very bad financial move for me; one I might not be able to recover from at this point in life. He stated how unfair the "equitable division" was and seemed to think there was some way he or I could get his dad to stop drinking (intervention, etc.). I explained it didn't work that way, recommended Al-Anon, a therapist, etc. I wasn't thinking clearly and a few days later suggested moving some assets into his name. He told me he didn't want to be in the middle of this. I agreed with him and haven't really said anything since.
There was another instance of violence (property damage) this past winter and I told him I would be meeting with lawyers again since I now had proof of the dv. (Surprise, it doesn't help me at all.) He never asked about the outcome from those meetings. I texted him to let him know I still wouldn't be able to file and said I wouldn't bring it up again, but would always be open to any of his questions.
So, do I have a sit down conversation with my son? I would tell him his dad's addiction has progressed, as they do, and let him know these cases often end in death.
What is the best thing I can do for my son (aside from leaving)?
How to Protect Radiator from Rocks
I've searched but I'm not having luck. Car is in the SC getting a new radiator due to a rock causing a leak. I'm going to order mud flaps but wonder if there is something else I should be doing to prevent this from happening again. I'm not sure if rocks enter through the grille, so not sure if adding mesh there would help more than keeping light debris out. TIA!
Possible Credit Card Leak at All Day Chemist
Just a heads up - I received an email from my credit card company alerting me that someone tried to use the virtual card number I set up for All Day Chemist with Uber. They advised that the virtual number could only be used at All Day Chemist, so if I had tried to use it at Uber, I needed to set up a virtual number with Uber. If it wasn't me, they advised me to freeze or delete the virtual number.
If you have a credit card number on file with All Day Chemist, you might want to consider locking it or at least keeping an eye on it for fraudulent charges.
ETA: I purchased Tretinoin from them, which I am adding to get past the AI auto mods.
Question: Just Administered My First Subcu Fluids
Diagnosed 2.5 months ago as beginning of stage 2. After a bout of pancreatitis 2 weeks ago, he is now top of stage 3.
Went to vet at 12:30 Tues to learn how to administer fluids. He is supposed to get 150ml every other day. Plan was to wait until after work today, so about 54 hrs. When I pulled out the fluid bag, it was down to the line w/the number 1. Can anyone confirm if that means they gave him 150 ml from this bag?
Today was my in-office day, so I wasn't home w/cat to monitor his behavior. When I got home, he hadn't eaten and seemed less than 100%. Gave him approx 150 ml. At first, I did detect a bump from the fluid. However, it quickly dissipated. It looked like there was some leakage after I removed the needle, but not a ton? A wet couple of inches? Narrow line.
After about 30 mins, he seemed to perk up. Does the quick dissipation mean he was dehydrated and absorbed the fluids quickly? I'm thinking "every other day" means we should try administering again in 36 hrs, instead of 48. Thoughts?
Looking For Any Wisdom and Advice
I've been reading this sub for the past two months and have found it very helpful. I thought I would share where we currently are and see if anyone has any advice or ideas of what I should be asking our vet when we see them in a few days. Apologies for the length!
Larry is approximately 15 years old. (He was adopted when he was 2-3, so we don't know his exact age.) We always fed him a wet diet of Primal freeze dried. We always added more water than recommended because Larry just wouldn't drink water. We tried bowls and then fountains, along with various locations.
A few years ago the vet suspected a gallop heartbeat so we went to the cardiologist to ensure there wasn't a physical heart defect or heart disease. His heart looked fine and only showed very early stages of heart disease. The cardiologist told us we could do yearly follow ups if we wanted but it would be reasonable to just do yearly bloodwork that checked his proBNP following up with the cardiologist if the proBNP indicated heart disease.
In January, I noticed a sudden significant increase of his litter robot usage for the past day or two. The vet couldn't see him so we went to an urgent care. They found blood in his urine but no bacteria. They suspected he either had a very early UTI or we had upset him somehow (we hadn't been away, nothing had changed, etc) and his bladder had become inflamed as a result. They suggested a course of antibiotics and gabapentin to relieve any pain he might be experiencing. They also said they could send the sample out to culture first, but I was comfortable giving the antibiotics. Symptoms resolved within 24 hours and we finished the entire course. At this appointment, his creatinine was 2.2, total protein 8.9, phosphorous 3.0, urine very concentrated at 1.044, blood on dipstick 3+, RBC 21-100/HPF and protein 2+.
In April, he had his annual and was diagnosed with kidney disease. We were told to put him on the kidney diet and no other instructions. (We also started on Solensia for arthritis.) She said his proBNP (377) indicated heart disease but it could just be falsely elevated by the kidneys. I schedule with cardiologist but can't get in until October. His BP was normal. IDEXX SDMA 15, BUN 39, Creatinine 2.1. Over a couple of weeks we successfully transitioned him over to the Hills Science Diet k/d pate. We had been keeping his weight steady at 13lbs (vet approved good weight for cat his size). He was supposed to get something like 1.75 cans of the wet but I was giving the equivalent of 2 during the transition. He gained weight and kept brushing up against 14lbs. I then had to go out of town for a week. When I returned my partner said he had resorted to tuna because Larry wasn't eating the k/d. Now, I was very unhappy to find the feeder bowls hadn't been cleaned and thought that was why he was refusing the food. If I sat with him and spoon fed him, he would eat some. I tried giving him Weruva's low Phos food and at first he ate it just fine. When he started refusing it, I offered some Science Diet kibble, which he took to. He then refused anything but the kibble. After stressing over this for a week and trying to encourage wet food, I decided to not worry as a fed cat is best. Also, I should note that during the transition to the k/d, Larry finally started drinking from his fountain. We think his first home had dogs and had one time seen him drinking from the toilet. I took his fountain into the half bath and he started to use it consistently.
Fast forward and he was going in for his monthly Solensia injection. It had been two months since his annual and I asked them to check his renal values because I wanted to see what they were like on the diet and before I started some supplements. Well, I don't have the values but they had skyrocketed and we had to take him to the hospital. His numbers climbed that day and he also had low Phos and high Calcium. While hospitalized, his abnormal numbers were:
Day 1 5:45PM: BUN: 70 Creatinine 5.78, K+ 3.1, O2Sat 82.2, Globulin 5.5, Total Protein 9, Calcium 11.9
Day 1 5:59PM: BUN: 69, Creatinine 5.2, Globulin 5.5, Total Protein 9, Calcium 11.9, Phosphorous 1.3
Day 2 5:04AM: BUN 60, Creatinine 4.57, O2Sat 94.5, pO2 78.3, Glu 137, Hct 25
Day 2 5:21AM: Catalyst Pancreatic Lipase 8.2
Day 2 3:08PM: BUN 51, Creatinine 3.8
Day 3 4:16AM: BUN 51, Creatinine 4.11, Hct 24, O2Sat 78.2, pO2 46.1
He was then released to come home with us around 9 am and we followed up with blood work 24 hours later.
Day 4 BUN 61, Creatinine 3.8 and Phosphorus 3.9
If I'm remembering everything correctly, they think he got pancreatitis from not eating enough. Pancreatitis and k/d create a nasty downward spiral. He was released on Azodyl, Gabapentin, Cerenia for anti-nausea and Fortiflora Feline.
At the follow up appointment, when I mentioned he seemed tired and not himself, she said he probably didn't get much sleep while there but it could also be the gabapentin. She said he didn't seem to be in pain and we could stop it. However, I had just given him a dose two hours prior so I'm worried her exam wouldn't have shown the pain due to the medication. It was originally prescribed as every 8-12 hours. I was doing 8 during the day and 12 at night. Switched to every 12. After this morning's dose, I am leaning towards stopping it if he won't be in pain.
She also gave us a prescription for Mirataz, an appetite stim. I started that this morning and he actually ate some wet food.
We follow up with his regular vet Saturday.
The hospital vet was a bit leery of starting home fluids since he could have heart disease. My thought is the fluids given to him while hospitalized didn't stop his heart, so we should be fine to proceed with fluids at a lower level. Does this make sense?
I want to give him Porous One. We tried it in the very beginning but after having it once, he refused it. Even if it was in a churro. I'm thinking I should put it into an empty capsule and/or try putting it in a pill pocket and sealing that shut. There aren't any possible negatives to Porous One if given away from other meds, right?
I bought Amin Avast and have tried sprinkling it on food but he doesn't seem to like it. Is this fairly similar to Azodyl? Those are nice and small capsules and I've been able to pill him with those. I'm worried about pilling him with the larger Amin Avast. I did try putting two pill pockets over one of the Amin Avast capsules the morning this all started and he ate it. Some powder was spilled during consumption.
I'm just shocked that his kidney disease progressed so quickly and am hoping we can improve his numbers somewhat and slow the progression.
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated! TIA!
Is Possible to Protect Your Peace if Emotional Abuse is Present?
Is it possible? If so, how?
I can detach and stay in my own lane but consistent emotional abuse does take a toll.
I guess I have the same question regarding trauma. Again, I can detach, stay in my own lane, etc. but repeated trauma leads to my nervous system always being activated.
FWIW, I stay because of finances.
First Time Buying Options and Have Some Logistical Questions
I'm new to options and started by buying some calls a few months back. The price is now above my strike price and I'm wondering about executing.
I don't have uninvested cash sitting in my brokerage and don't want to sell the investments I am holding there. I also have an inherited IRA with Fidelity and plan to sell from there to fund the purchase. I'm guessing I need to sell, wait for it to clear, and then transfer the money into my brokerage account before exercising the option. Is that correct?
When I'm in my brokerage account and clip on the call, I see buttons for "buy to open" and "sell to close". Does "buy to open" mean exercising the option and purchasing the stock at the strike price? Does "sell to close" mean selling the option?
Not Connecting to App and Base Light Not Staying On
I'm hoping someone here can help me since the Simplisafe chat couldn't.
It has been some time since I've used the app. When I open it, it shows my cameras but not the system. This happened once before but I can't remember the details of the fix. Anyhow, I did the whole unplug, remove battery, wait, reset process. As soon as the battery is replaced, the status light starts swirling green and the system says "Welcome to SimpliSafe", but then nothing. No white status light and it still isn't connected to my app. Any ideas?
What Color Sandals?
I'm getting ready for an evening out in Vegas. I'll be wearing white linen pants (full length, wide leg) and a black strappy top. Do I go with black sandals for the contrast? White to match exactly or a nude/light tan?
