Blue boy Pedro lives on!

Hey guys! Great news!

I posted about 10 days ago concerning a weird bacterial spot on my boys back and was able to squeeze him in a vet appointment after about a week of methelyne blue soaks. Not only has the spot on his back almost completely cleared up at this point, but the vet was able to do a scrape swab of the spot and found no harmful bacteria left! Yay for Pedro!

She said it's looking like the infection itself is gone and the rest is scar tissue that might stick around for a little bit longer, but like I said that's fine with me since it's reduced to literally half a fingernail sized spot on his back. He's been feeding normally, moving well, soaking constantly and recently gave me a great bowel movement to clean up (but I did it anyway bc that means he's healthy).

Pedro says thank you all!

Edit: If you want to see my original post, his symptoms and the initial presentation, you can find it over here if you are concerned you may be dealing with something similar or are just curious. A deep thank you to the two posters who guided me in the right direction in the threads of the post!

He annoyed me so I'm turning him blue (caption)

Title is a joke I promise lol, despite how it looks this is for his own good. For those that don't know, methelyne blue soaks (INCREDIBLY diluted) have good anti fungal properties in amphibians, especially if it's a minor issue. From the help of users here, I was able to come to the conclusion my boy was probably experiencing a mild fungal infection and I wanted to do him some good while I look for an exotic vet in the area that's not booked months out to take a look at him (live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere Midwest so this is a mission on its own).

Not sure if it's just wishful thinking, but very quickly after I plopped him in he started working on getting the stuck shed I was concerned about off his sides, so I'm optimistic he'll be good as new soon! I'm very fortunate to say he wasn't showing any other symptoms of a severe infection; his appetite and behavior were totally fine, so I'm really thankful I got the advice of you all to point me in the right direction to catch it early on and not let my boy be so uncomfortable!

Despite me banishing him to his evil blue stew he is being a very good sport about it. Everybody say thank you Pedro.

Redness on bottom of legs and weird spot on back I'm concerned about - vet visit time, right?

Hey all,

Unfortunately discovered some not-so-awesome things on my boy today. I've been keeping an eye on this spot on his back that's been changing color and remaining a little wet compared to the rest of his skin, and when I checked his belly today, there was a bit of redness near his vent. I'm not quite sure what illness this is indicative of, but I know those two are red flag alarms for sure. Anything come to mind for you guys that I should specifically ask the exotic vet about? I'm definitely making a visit soon.

Thank you all greatly, I appreciate any advice yall can give

Edit for clarity:

His name is Pedro and he's around 12 years old. I have dechlorinated water for him constantly and warmth/UVB for him, and I dust his food (dubias) with vitamins and calcium. Feed him every three days or so. The thing that is getting me is that he's had the spot on his back for about two weeks now and he hasn't had any other symptoms - he's been eating totally fine and hasn't been showing any lethargy or spasms or anything of the sort, which is what's throwing me off (I know red leg and similar illnesses kill within a week or show rapid deterioration within that time frame). Does this sound like something that could be taken care of by a vet to you guys?

Edit #2: Upon seeing this post here , I'm pretty confident in saying 1) the same thing is probably going on with my boy and 2) that it should hopefully be easily fixed. I've since deep scrubbed his water dish with Wipe Out and am now letting it air dry before rinsing it with dechlorinated water one more time for good measure before returning it to him. I have been guilty of just refilling his water as opposed to dumping it out entirely as of lately when it's not soiled (the past month or so), which would line up with the timeline. Hoping it's just irritated froggy skin and we see it clear up with his newly cleaned tub!

Edit #3: Found what might be the culprit besides that - a tiny patch of mold was growing in the substrate right in front of his pool as well! Obviously deep cleaned that corner with Wipe Out too and got rid of all the offending material plus a good handful around it just to make extra sure. I'm hopeful these two changes will get him back on the right track especially since he's still hungry and active!

What's the market like in Chicago / surrounding areas?

Hey yall!

Starting my EMT-B course and plan to go into an ER Tech position at least to start my EMS education. Me, a friend and my boyfriend were looking at the Chicago and surrounding areas to move to (a year+ in the future, but still somewhat soon I suppose). Figured it would be good to figure out what the EMS scene is like in the city and surrounding before we make a final decision!

Are there any hospital chains I should avoid/have a negative reputation or work environment? Is it super oversaturated? Any info from those from the area/have worked there before would be awesome!

Thanks in advance!
