Stairs & landing ideas?

Moved into a fixer upper last year and started to plan on what we want to change. One of the big things is the stairs, as you can see they are dated and in need of a revamp.

However, I’m not sure how to approach it, here are a few things;
- the space under the stairs has a radiator. Ideally that wouldn’t be there but it’s the only one in the hall and to move it across the room we’ve been quoted £700/800+ VAT. Concerned if we do it will eat into the hall space too much.

- Updating the stairs and landing. We have a 5 month old, and right now before he is moving I want to make sure these aren’t climbable. Also want to give them a modern look as well. Still have the carpet in the middle (change it) but looking into filling those holes and doing something with the sides. Would it be cheaper to just replace the whole thing though?

- landing railings. Same with the stairs themselves, just need updating.

We like the look of last photo, but as this is our first time doing anything of this scale, unsure as to how to get from gross old stairs to nice looking ones.

Low power and fan blaring after short drive.

Since yesterday evening my R56 Mini Cooper S as felt weird. On the way back from work I had to detour through a ford (drive through a river). It was deep, but after that I got home (maybe 5 minutes later) and the fan on the engine was running loud. I only work 20 minutes away, and it wasn’t a hot day.

This morning on that same drive (minus the ford) I noticed it felt off, like it had lost power or something. It wasn’t as nippy or pulling away as quickly as I would expect it to. Again, Parker’s up at work and the fan was going off loud and for a while (5 minutes maybe).

Drive make this evening, park up at home and once again the power felt lacking and the fan was kicking up a lot of noise.

I had all the spark plugs changed at the beginning of the year so I’m not sure it could be that. I will say though, and it’s probably this.

Open to suggestions or anything I can get some knowledge about before going to the garage.

Shoulder markings for DA Veterans with Disintegrators

Doing a transfer sweep on a lot of recently painted models. A while ago I painted a squad of Veteran’s with Disintegrators, but I’m unfamiliar with Horus Heresy, so not sure what to paint or transfer these guys should have on their right shoulder.

I’ve yet to dive into HH, but wanted these to be my test models for it.

Cerastus Knight Lancer: 40K Edition

Now, this isn’t a “will the Lancer be legends?”, stand down from the reset button!

“Do you think we’ll see a 40K version of the Lancer?”

Hear me out: maybe a different loadout, an additional ranged weapon, essentially just a “40K upgrade sprue” for the lancer.

It’s not unheard of, there have been two of the same units but with different loadouts across HH & 40K. Heck, the Baneblade will probably be useable in 30k now that sprue is being sold separate (not ideal, disgusting practice).

A little rocket pod or something ok the top maybe?

Anyway, just a thought, here is my Lancer, I call him “Sir Fails-a-Charge”. Need to still do Custom House decals (any tips on printing them off would be great?)

Running DA HH models as CSM.

So I’ve painted and gathered a LOAD of Horus Heresy kits over the years mainly because they look awesome. I’ve not played HH at all, for not real particular reason, but I have painted a fair chunk of them.

Now… our friend group basically all play some form of loyalist marines and it gets a bit tedious, kind of feels like Horus did another Heresy. For our next big game (4 players) I was thinking of running my HH Dark Angels as fallen/ CSM.

I’ve not dabbled in Chaos yet, so unsure of what I could use them as. Here are the HH kits I’ve got but I’m unsure as to what to run them as.

- 30x normal marines (yet to build, so open to conversions)
- 10x Veterans (with disintegrators, not useable in 40K)
- Comtemptor Dreadnought
- Leviathan Dreadnought
- Kratos tank
- 4x Saturnine terminators
- Preator in Saturnine
- Preator with shield (the DA one)
- Preator in Cataphractii

Would love to know what to run most of them as. I also want to add a few more units that are less daemony / Chaos infused so open to suggestions. I’m planning on picking up Cypher to lead the army as it has to be done. I’m not looking at running them as meta, I just want these guys to be fallen DA spat out the warp and just trying to survive this new galaxy they find themselves in.

I would just like to have a reason to use these models when we play and learn a new army. I enjoy playing DA, but when everyone on the board is running loyalists it gets a bit stale.

I wish I could buy digital Codexes…

Currently sat here looking at the World Eaters stuff on… a certain site and just would be so nice to look at a potential army that I would like to get into and pick up their codex cheap digitally.

Sure there are alternatives as mentioned above, but sometimes I just want to build a cool army idea in the app. The UX on the app isn’t perfect, but way better than anything else out there on the App Store.

I would be so down for a 3 Tier system of how to get codex and rules. Obviously “rules should be free” is a thing, but you’re not going to drop the a money maker like codexes.

In a perfect world it would be this:

Digital: £10
First of all, £10 is the MOST I think anyone would pay for a digital codex. I don’t think it should be that much, but come on, realistically GW doesn’t know that things related to 40K and a price below double digits is a thing.

To get around iOS/ Android tax you buy them from the GW site and they are tied to that account, or sent as an email. GW will need to do some back end for the former to work smoothly (currently not a thing) but it could work.

You get instant codex rules for the army straight away.

Standard: £15-25
Again, price is the biggest factor here. This is your stripped down codex. Next to no lore, bare bones approach to the game. It comes with the digital code like above but you now have a physical book to bring along. Nothing massive, basically what they have done with the 11th core rule book, a small A5 book to bring along.

Collectors: £40-75
This is where all your lore, your fluff and if you’re feeling fancy, extra bits of tat live. I’ve priced this WAY too low I think, but it’s reasonable. All hard back as well, adds that flair.

Like the 10th campaign books this comes in a box with a selection of books and bits:
- lore book
- game book (same as above, just fancier cover)
- data cards (fancier versions)
- digital code
- Bonus physical tat (coin, seals)

Now, scalpers are the problem here so you know what GW can do; Made to order. First two weeks of the codex going live you can order it, within 180 days you’ll get your beautiful fancy codex (could even be numbered if GW wanted to be super fancy).

Each person that orders the codex gets the digital code sent to them straight away, so they don’t have to wait for it to arrive.

This gives players the chance to play what they want, removes the scalper issue and you get all the fancy all stuff.

Will this happen? Probably not, but it would be neat if it did. Anyway, here is a quick mock up of what I thought it could be as well.

How would terrain

I’m stoked for 11th, but struggling to work out how those templates would work with my existing terrain.

A lot of the big stuff I’ve got might be too large for those templates, or just not fit at all.

Do I even need the templates as well?

Gogeta Nursery: Reviews

Hi there, new dad here and just trying to wrap my head around a new benefit my employer has added this year.

It's called Gogeta and it's a salary sacrifice that "could" save me £2100 rather than £1800 if I don't use it.

Entering the details though each nursery bill that is submitted there is an additional £200 "platform fee" for it. So instead of paying £1000 directly to the nursery I pay £1200 out of my salary to these guys, but don't pay tax on it... but I'm still paying more than I should be.

Something seems a miss here. I'm completely new to this kind of thing, so just trying to wrap my head around it. If anyone is familiar with this company or even benefit schemes, I would love to hear from you.

TP-Link RE550 Access Point not meshing?

I’ve been having issue with WiFi speed in the outbuilding of our new home. I’ve got WiFi extenders around the house, great for phones but crap for work so what I’ve done is run a long Ethernet cable from the router into the office for cabled connection for our work pc (me and the mrs WFH). The office is still having issues with WiFi connection though.

This is the equipment I’m using, all TP-Link stuff just so they “talk” to each other and accessible in one app:

- Archer AX72 AX5400Mbps WiFi 6 Router

- 3x TP-Link RE550 AC1900

This is the issue:

The two RE550s are great in the house, but the one in the office has always struggled. I changed it into an access point over the weekend and connected it to the office Ethernet cable set up. WiFi is great and speedy now, however it is now on it’s separate WiFi and not the home one, so we have to switch between them where as the other two extenders (not set up in access point mode) just mesh with the existing WiFi.

Is there a fix for this? Is there a way I can have the office WiFi access point mesh with the home WiFi? Am I expecting too much for something that is primarily a WiFi extender, but cosplaying as an access point?

About a year ago I bought a Repulsor for my Dark Angels. I remember I really wanted it for something, but for the life of me I can’t remember what.

I’ve been on and off again painting it for a month or so, but as I’m slowly creeping towards the finish point I’m just unsure as to why I went for the Repulsor and not the executioner.

What are the pros for it? I think originally I planned on using it to transfer large squads and drop them in the mid field, but since I’ve had it (still boxed mind you) and played a load of matches, I’ve never been in a position where I was missing out on that.
