A recent fav: beans and eggs

I've been cooking a pound of dried beans every Monday, and fitting them into meals all week. I recently discovered just how good they are in an egg scramble! Today's scramble is mushroom, onion leaves (did a bit of pruning of the onions in the garden), and bacon. With a bit of Worcester sauce 🤤

This week was a mix of navy, pinto and black beans.

Canadian Old Fashioned 🍁

Foxtrot by Forty Creek Distillery, a splash of maple syrup and a few dashes of bitters.

I picked this bottle up from the distillery in March and was told to savour it as they won't be making more. I popped the seal tonight. Hopefully I can hide it in the back and not touch it again for a while 😅

Beans have no right being this pretty

Getting some beans soaking for tomorrow night's dinner. A basic three bean medley. Kidney, black turtle, and navy beans.

How do you like my gangly ladies 🤣

I started these way too early, they got way too leggy. Then shocked when I put them outside. I've already had to break off flower stalks. I think a few leaves are almost ready to harvest. Definitely a learning curve with these ones! Haha

Next year I'm starting much closer to last frost than mid February 🤣 but I might get a tiny bit to play with this year anyways.

Expedition Scout Backlight stopped working after 2 weeks

Any tips on why my backlight may have stopped working? I was up lastnight and tried to check the time and only two little squares in the bottom near the 6 lit up. I'm tempted to send back to Amazon or Timex for warranty. But I want to see if there could be an easy reason for this.

Is it too late to start Oriental poppy from seed this year?

I just got back from a week in Italy. Poppies were literally everywhere. Like our dandelions, except poppy are native there. I had never seen a real poppy before, and I fell in love. They are perennials in my zone (4b) but it seems the best time to sow is direct in Fall.

Does anyone have success growing them this late?

Extensive winter damage

The whole upper tree seems to have died. Just a few little branches on the bottom that put out growth. Is there any hope for it?

Where to find Local honey?

I am a beekeeper visiting from Canada. I like to collect honey from everywhere I visit. A few Facebook marketplace ads seem a bit scammy. Are there any known local markets on a a Monday that I could find some? Or local stores?

1943 Wartime nickel

Just found this in my change. Very worn out and well circulated to say the least. Super cool to find though!

Found this poor painted turtle struggling this afternoon nearby it's pond. It's gotten very cold here all of a sudden. So it think he's cold shocked, and got some respiratory issues going on. Thankfully our local turtle conservation group doubles as a permitted hospital so they can hopefully get him all fixed up.

Does anyone know of local organizations that I can get my CPR-C? St John's Ambulance doesn't seem to offer any except for Kingston, Burlington or Ottawa. Any recs would be welcome.
