Why doesn't cEDH run more removal?

Been watching some games in the format and I see tons of stack interaction and barely any on board removal.

Is there a reason or have I just watched too low of a sample size?

Big into edh and trying to understand cEDH more.

What happens to fight dmg if a card flips? (Tovolar)

Building a werewolf deck where I am trying to have fight spells be my main removal. Fun B2 low level stuff.

If I fight a 2/2 with [[Tovolar, Dire Overlord]] then flip him with [[Moonmist]], can I fight a 3/3 and survive; or is 2 dmg still marked there?

Time genie shows up and offers you a deal of a lifetime!

One time jump forward in time & space. You get to spawn anywhere and anytime in the future! But because of how time travel works "you" still need to exist the whole time. So, to get past this issue the genie will create a medium version of you that is immortal. Medium you will have your current build and abilities. You will be your average level of happy, desire to play your hobbies at your medium rate. Answer in your medium tone when spoken to. All averages pulled from the "you" data from the last 5 years.

You'll be on autopilot (think the movie Click) until the time and place you choose. Genie also allows you one command you can issue to yourself. A driving action or principle your autopilot will always try and move towards within normal physics and existing natural laws.

The catch? You have to watch it all from 3rd person perspective. Like a ghost tethered 5ft or so above your autopilot. Think a balloon on a string tied to the middle of your back. As a ghost you can't interact with the world at all. Just watch. When time is up you get back in your body and take over. You'll be all healed up + You get 1 week of immortality/invulnerability to get acclimated then it's just you.

Do you take the deal? If so, what's your "command" to your autopilot? How long are you watching for?

No backsies once you take it. No rewinds. You're immortal not invulnerable. Geanie will fix you up if you're in pieces or something by the time deadline hits to give you your week.

Am I being to lax as a parent?

So I'll start with some context.

My wife and I have been married for 9 years. Good relationship and strong partnership. We have 2 kids, a 5yp boy and a 3yo girl. About 2 years ago my business fell apart and as I was the sole provider it made finances really difficult. It was a tough year for sure. Eventually, I got a job that was about an 8hr flight away in a city known for it's terrible schools. Due to our circumstances I honestly couldn't say no to the job and the salary was really good so we decided I should take the job (partially remote) and do my best to travel back and forth from the job area to home where my kids could continue their schooling.

My wife is the artist type and always has relied on me for financial and emotional support. When I was there we shared the primary parenting roles and I did my part by taking up most of the household cleaning and chores. Discipline was also my wheelhouse so if something needed that hand-on-the-wheel feeling I was on top of it. I allowed my wife, as I was wfh before to really lean into her art and personal expression. I was very happy with our arrangement (minus the usual bumps that come with marriage and partnership) but our financial situation needed to change and I returned to corporate life.

Now, the issue.

I feel my wife is kind of cracking under the pressure of (her words) "single parenthood".

My son is a very sweet boy but I can tell he has been doing things to "prank" my wife and in general act out. He watches a lot more netflix and YouTube now a days just due to my wife needing a break every now and then but not having the help she is used to. He's been mimicking what he sees on this terrible show called "bad dinosaur" as he tries to sneak it when she's not looking. Occasionally my wife will call me with behavioral issues and have me talk to him over FaceTime about it but this last time, she called me during work repeatedly enough that I had to step out.

She tells me she can not believe what he has done. She says she spanked him (we don't do that. This is her 3rd slip up in that dept) "hard". She banned him from watching screens alone (that part I'm fine with) and that he can't go to his summer school activity thing he does with our church. She calls him "evil" and tells me "she has no faith he can be a good person", a liar, and is at the end of her rope.

The offense? He farted on his sister.

I hear him in the background bawling and foaming at the mouth from the punishment. She's still getting on him asking why he would do that and telling him how no one will accept him in society and on and on. It got to the point where I was thinking I need to protect him from her.

I ask her to take a beat and talk for a bit about it. I tell her that taking him out of the school thing punishes her too since that's time she doesn't have to do childcare. And while it's fun for him, it is educational and he doesn't get enough time outdoors as is.

She reluctantly says okay and tells me "I knew you'd enable him. This is why he is the way he is."

I can tell our arrangement has her stressed. She isn't used to having to shoulder all the responsibilities like this with the kids. I'm actually considering quitting this job because I can feel her fraying at the ends. I know this woman. She's at her limit.

We will all be together again for the summer break starting literally tomorrow, but I'm at a loss as to how to approach this going forward.

I'm here now so water under the bridge? Bring it up immediately? Watch for a while and see if it continues? Am I just being too lax here?

I'm in a strange place and wonder if anyone has any advice.

Living with mee where I am is a no-go. Terrible schools and not to give too much info my daughter was born abroad (but is a citizen of my home country) and there is a lot of hostility towards that country and my own right now. Her safety is a concern. My wife also refused a permanent move. I'm looking for a remote job that can match my current pay. I'm also in school which would permit that, but don't graduate from my MS for another year.

How far can I get with Nine Fingers?

Made a [[Nine Fingers Keene]] deck in b3 have been enjoying it. Now I want more power. Any suggestions to make this into a b4 with more than just "good stuff"? Looking for some degen tech to compete at a table with the likes of dragons, goblins, and sephiroth.

Current build can definitely get stronger but I really want to get to a solid 4 if I can. How far can I get with 9 fingers?

How much mana screw / drought / land-go can you tolerate before conceding?

Title.

I had a fun commander night the other day with a friend group I hadn't had a chance to play with in a while. I was playing my Kotori deck just vibing having beers having fun. Kept a hand with 3 lands and didn't get another land for 3 turns. Had my commander removed by a wipe (shouldn't have played her) and had an opening hand with Shorikai so I assumed I would find that 4th eventually and be fine. Was not fine. I was the "I need an attack trigger" punching bag for the rest of the game and died without doing much of anything.

The night was still fun as it was just hanging out with the bros and getting tipsy but it got me thinking about the times I've seen someone miss 2 land drops then just concede when playing online.

I wonder what the general community's tolerance for essentially having multiple non-turns. How long can you go without lands or land/pass before you call it quits?

I feel when I play online it's much lower tolerance than when I play in person. I can only remember once in person when the table eventually just let the guy go get a land instead of drawing a card because he missed 4 land drops in a row. Spent the game only to cast his commander once. After the game he said he ran 29 lands because he "only needed 3 to get going" which made the table laugh a bit. Next game with the same deck he popped tf off so I guess it was true 😂

Morning train thoughts.

Killing. Haste enabler during declare attackers step

Building [[Samut Driving Force]] and a weird situation arrived when doing some practice 1v1 a buddy. I go to combat and cast [[Secure the Wastes]] with X equalling 7. I go to declare attackers and someone kills Samut while I am choosing who to attack because I chose to go after them. They state it as a response to an attack trigger of my [[Champion from Beyond]]. Can the tokens still attack assuming no other haste enablers? Are my tokens all just tapped and now summoning sick?

I was a little confused if there is a window there to stop the attacks at that point.

When would be their last opportunity to kill Samut before the tokens are already on their way? I've had several other games where someone does something "in response to attacks" but never with the haste enabler being removed. Wonder how that is supposed to go.

Thanks in advance!

Is Rootha KOS

Played a few games against [[Rootha Mastering the Moment]] just to see if it's a fun deck to play against. Hasty whatever/toomuch's are kind of an issue. I'm thinking it should be on my kill on sight list.

What are you thinking? Do you leave that bastard alone or do you usually kill the Rootha player when you can?

I'm close to thinking I should just always kill Izzet players first. Just to be safe.

Anyone else have a TIL for rules they've been doing wrong?

I learned today that crew costs have to be paid in full. You can't partially pay in order to tap creatures. I run a very fun [[Kotori Pilot Prodigy]] deck where I crew using all kinds of "if this becomes tapped" creatures. Kotori is almost never killed so I never really thought of the rules for crewing tbh. Everything has 2pwr so for me it was Kind of basic. So someone sniped Kotori and I tried to crew with a 2/2 I had left over on a Crew 6.

TIL you can't do that. I've won more than a few games at the kitchen table with this fact. Dodging effects. Squeezing value. All kinds.

I didn't believe the (online) dude but I looked it up. Crazy work. Now I have to add more protection for Kotori I never thought I really needed since she's cheap 😂

Anyone else find out way later about a rule they thought was simple?

Looking for a potential dupe for this Revolve dress (for the wife)

My wife and I love this dress for our vow renewals. Looking to see if there is an option a bit more lower budget (if possible). Also willing to get something close; altered.

Thanks in advance!

So I read another thread yesterday and a commenter said you can [[Stifle]] a fetch land. I didn't know this was possible and made it my mission to get it done on game night tonight. Mostly because one of my playmates loves his 5c /4c good stuff commanders and fuck Kenrith. Also honestly because it's hilarious.

So in the group chat today I mention how I'm totally doing that T1 if I'm able and kind of frankly my buddy said if I do that he's scooping. I thought he was joking but he essentially went on to explain how far that puts him back, ruins a potential keeper hand ("if I go down to 5 with a fetch land I might as well not play the game"), and honestly is a 'dick' move. He did say it would be fine to stop a win or on a later turn, but he said unequivocally he's scooping if I don't let him fetch early. Also that it counts as land denial.

I'm still going to do it (if I can) because I'm committed + peer pressure.

But I'm wondering if it's really a BM thing to do so, and if so I'll refrain from doing it to strangers at the LGS.

We play higher B3 and B4 mostly.

Edit for story conclusion: So we we had game night last night and I played an island first with my Pir & Toothy deck. Dude I was referring to was third in turn order. He played a fetch and didn't crack it. He waited until the end step before my turn and said something along the lines of "you better not" then cracked his fetch. I tapped my blue in response and my friends started cackling. I didn't have the stifle though so I just said "I pass priority" just to mess with him. Buddy picked up his deck and started looking, but player 2 in turn order said to wait, and casted a a goddamn stifle! Room erupted. Everyone laughed. Fetch dude called everyone mitherfuckers, and player 2 asked if he was scooping. He said no but he's on sight for this game. Long story short it was funny, [[Aaragorn the Uniter]] killed [[Sidar Jabari]] as promised in like 3 turns and then was promptly killed by my [[Amy Rose]]. We all lost to the Merfolk player who was kind of just watching the carnage. Cards were slung. Fun was had. I didn't pull a stifle effect early all night which is how the cookie crumbles sometimes. Rest of the games were as normal. I told them about the thread and he got a kick out of how many people called him out. We talked after as is usual and he essentially said he wasn't being serious and text comes off different then speech. Fun times were had.
