My elderly cat is vomiting multiple times a day
My cat (male neutered, 17) has been in my life for almost all of those 17 years he has been alive. He came to my grandparents 6 months before I was born as a kitten. I am explaining this so you may understand the situation I have been placed in. I am autistic, and very sensitive to animals, cats especially. I have never know life without some sort of cat in my life.
My parents are different. I believe that cats should go to the vet just as often as dogs. They believe that animals are just fine without a vet. My elderly cat has not had ANY type of shot or vaccine in at LEAST eight years. I have asked. My father claims that he doesn’t need it because he is an indoor cat.
Heres my real issue. My cat is sick. This started about 5-6 months ago, when I noticed he was struggling to chew his kibble and would leave bits all around my room. He also started drooling around this time.
About 2 months ago I noticed he has been rapidly losing weight. He was never a large cat, he must’ve weighed at his maximum 12-13 pounds. I haven’t weighed him. But my mom’s cat, who is 9.7 pounds, is noticeably heavier than him now.
Next is the vomiting. I have noticed that right after he drinks water or tries to go to the bathroom, he will vomit up bile. He then licks his mouth and it sounds like he is chewing on sand.
He has also become much weaker in the last few weeks. When he gets up to walk his hind legs tremble and shake like they can hardly hold him up. I can feel every bone in his body. No matter how much I try to get him to eat, he barely will touch his food and will instead scatter it all over my (carpeted) room.
When he goes to use the litterbox, he crouches and hold his tail in a way that indicates his bum is in pain. He yowls and cries in a way I have never heard before.
It genuinely breaks my heart to see him like this, knowing that if he had access to a vet years ago would have probably caught these issues ages ago.
My father has FINALLY, today, decided that something is slightly pff and has decided to go out and buy him senior food, plus he is thinking about Pedialyte to help him rehydrate.
Is he suffering too much? Can he recover? I am not ready to lose him after losing my other cat last Christmas. I need professional opinions to help me understand.
Is it too late for him to recover?
