Doing a test one before I start the production line….
What is everyone’s opinion on this. These are the two closest matches I could find to the GW 90’s Goblin Green. Coat d’arms are the same company that made goblin Green back in the 90’s for GW. They are both a very close match but the Dunc Rhodes seems a touch warmer and the coat d’arms a bit cooler tone. I’m leaning towards the Duncan Rhodes at the moment….
I start by cleaning up the model straight out of the box, removing any mold lines and flash. A sharp pair of snips, sharp scalpel and metal files do just great.
Then I grab a bowl of warm water and a drop of washing up liquid, drop the miniatures into it for 5 mins and give it all a gentle mix up then grab an old toothbrush and give the miniatures a gentle scrub. Wash the minis off with clean warm water and then let them dry thoroughly.
If you have resin or old metal miniatures this first step is a must. The initial prep takes a bit of extra time but is worth it. Resin and metal miniatures will have cast residue on them which if isn’t washed off may effect how your paint applies to the miniature. If you are using standard plastic you will be fine skip this part.
Prime with Wraithbone spray paint.
Lasgun, knife sheath, boots and shirt cuffs: Abaddon Black, 2 thin coats for good coverage. Apply second coat after first is completely dry.
Trousers: Leviadon Blue Contrast. 2 thin coats.
Trouser Stripe: Flesh Tearers Red contrast
Metal detail on lasgun and knife : Leadbelcher
Shoulders: Iyanden Yellow Contrast
Skin: Gulliman Flesh Contrast
Pith helmet: thinned down layer of Wraithbone.
Tunic: base coat of Magmadroth Flame Contrast, when dry go over with Baal Red Contrast
Ratling Grime Contrast thinned down slightly with a very fine brush to black line all the recessed areas apart from the helmet. This can take a bit of practice and takes time but makes a big impact overall. Use this thinned down to also shade the metal parts of the lasgun and knife.
Belt, pouches, chin strap and chest aquila: Corax White
Pith Helmet: Thin brush and Skeleton Horde Contrast to line.
Shoulders: thin coat of Imperial Fist Yellow Contrast. When dry highlight with Flash Gitz Yellow.
Tunic: highlight raised areas with Magmadroth Flame Contrast.
Lasgun and knife: highlight with Leadbelcher and then with Iron Warrior silver.
Finally I coat most of the model with AK Ultra Matte varnish, the Tunic cuffs and boots I give a coat of Technical Stormshield varnish to give them a satin shine.
Hope this helps!
Damn it’s tricky. Especially into metal…. The paint is work in progress, just getting the base coats on.
