Shellac spray for throat plate rash?

Hello,

A while back I thrifted this centennial badge Singer 66-16. It was in near mint condition, all I really had to do was replace the bobbin winder spring and clean and oil it. However, it has these rash marks on the throat plate and I’d really like to seal them before they spread to the decals.

I previously tried using canned shellac on a Singer 15 that I restored that had the same issue only more severe, with mixed results. It did seal off the chipping areas, however I was not able to get a smooth glossy finish.

Wondering if a few coats of spray shellac would be the better option to get a more even finish on the throat area. Of course I would completely mask off the top of the machine and the throat plate / bobbin area.

What are your thoughts?

To tutti, or not to tutti. That is the question

Hi y’all.

I’m thinking about auditioning for a “more serious” community orchestra in the fall. The audition requirements are a few standard excerpts, and a 3 minute solo of the persons choice (concerto preferred).

I’m thinking about playing Haydn Concerto no. 4 in G major, since it’s the only concerto I’ve touched in several years. Majority of my playing in the past few years has been quartet rep for wedding gigs and whatnot, so nothing super appropriate. Other pieces I’ve considered are Beethoven Sonata in F, or Mozart Sonata in E minor.

If I choose Haydn, what protocol should I take for the tutti section(s) if I am starting from the soloist bar? Should I just stand silently for 12 bars waiting for the solo to pick back up? Play through the tutti section? Skip forward to the solo? It just feels awkward to sit there silently for 12 measures since I am only allotted 3 minutes for my solo…

What would you do in this scenario? I really don’t want to try picking up a different concerto. I’m more confident in refining a piece I already know, than working through something I haven’t played like Mozart 4 or 5.

Interesting floor clock seen on TV show

I was watching Paranormal Portals on Pluto and saw this interesting floor clock in the background. Anyone seen one like this?
