Any games with similar atmosphere?

I played AC6 about 2-3 years ago and I haven't been able to stop thinking about its world. It's a stellar game all around, don't get me wrong, but what particularly captured me was the scenery. Just the sheet magnitude of it all, the views, the endless, artificial structures stretching as far as the eye can see, the vast plains, the cities that still seem so gigantic to you even in your 20 meters tall mech. Playing the game for the first time and seeing it all was such an incredible feeling that I've been chasing ever since.

How do the other installments compare in this regard? Are there any other games that could scratch the itch?

Are there any android google docs alternatives that don't suck?

I've tried like 15. They're all either paid, free but with an unbearable amount of ads/premium subscription reminders, or they just genuinely don't work. I used to use Writer+ back in the day, but it just crashes everytime I open a document now.

Before I spend an hour trying to lobotomize any of these apps to be usable, please tell me: is there anything else I should try? What do you use?

I'm not asking for much, it's just gotta be able to edit documents. Doesn't need cloud, integrated AI or any fancy features, just basic markdown/HTML/whatever and a folder system.

I write a lot on my phone and this is genuinely the one area that's making me consider staying with google, because fuck, it can't be that difficult to make a usable app, can it?

my parents just don't tell me anything & act surprised when I don't know

This is literally just a vent post because I'm so pissed off and exhausted rn.

My parents just don't tell me anything. Something happens in the family, they change plans that literally involve me, they change their minds, etc. they just don't fucking tell me and then A, I get to find out at the last possible moment, just by overhearing stuff and B, they have the audacity to be offended/weirded out when I get upset over it. They promise me something to look forward to and then decide against it and me being upset over it is treated like I've thrown a personal insult to their faces.

I don't deal well with plans changing, especially last minute changes, ESPECIALLY when I literally don't fucking know about the change and it's made behind my back. If this were a once in a while thing, then fine, but they do this CONSTANTLY. They're so fucking frustrating to deal with. Trying to plan something with them genuinely feels like talking to a pair of fucking aliens, I don't understand why they're so stupid.

Just fucking tell me?? Like?? "How did you not know...?" BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T FUCKING TELL ME AND I HAD NO OTHER WAY TO FIND OUT. LITERALLY NONE.

There's already a myriad of reasons I don't like spending time with them, they're already so fucking frustrating to be around just because of how arrogant and selfish they are, but this takes the cake. I feel like I'm trapped in the inconvenience dimension. Just relatively minor bullshit that nonetheless serves to ruin my whole day because it completely fucks up everything I thought I was supposed to expect.

I suck at this game, PLEASE HELP

Sorry if wrong flair, gameplay is the closest thing I could match it to.

I started the game yesterday and already have a couple hours in. It's fun, no real criticism from me (my skill issue is my skill issue), but I seem to be having more trouble than basically everyone I've seen play it with similar amount of experience.

I've done like 35 runs now and only reached the first safe zone twice. Second time I did so, I died like 5 minutes later because the Mass just immediately caught up to me and I had no idea where to even go. The save system having a 1 revive limit kind of pissed me off.

Is there something I should know? Something basic and obvious I might be missing? I think I'm fairly good the climbing itself, most of my deaths have been from the wall/ceiling mounted tentacle things (before I realized I could just kill them) and falling into the Mass because I clicked the wrong button (the constant LMB/RMB sometimes shortcircuits my brain and I briefly forget which is which). I'm trying different perks and trinkets, figuring stuff out on my own, but I'm wondering if anyone has any advice?

My mom is burnt out and I can't help her

Hi.

My mom is in her late 40s. She's been a kindergarten teacher for about 15 years, did some odd jobs beforehand, most notably at a telecom. agency.

The education system in our country is fucked and getting progressively moreso every year. It's her and another teacher for a class of 20-30 kids, a third of them with severe behavioral issues or learning disabilities. They'd all need a personal assistant or at the very least a doctor/children's therapist, but that's just not viable. The pay is awful, the management is usually the same.

Needless to say, my mom is absolutely exhausted. I've been watching her come home absolutely exhausted, physically and mentally, and still spend half her free time working because she needs to make reports, learning materials, evaluations, etc. She's not perfect but she's good at her job and she likes it... theoretically! But practically, it's just so draining.

She's been mentioning lately that she doesn't know if she can keep going like this, but everytime I try to offer an alternative, she rejects it. In part, I understand her arguments, but simultaneously, it just frustrates me all the more because it makes me feel so helpless.

She's been teaching for 15 years, she's middle aged. Either she gets a job in the field but in a less stressful environment, which would be incredibly difficult to find, or she just... prays to god someone will hire her without zero experience in whatever it is she manages to land. And people don't want to hire someone her age, because it's just not a good investment, I suppose. It's so cruel.

I keep trying to help her, telling her about job listings and fields where she could have some luck, but she just tells me it's useless. I get the frustration and feeling of helplessness, I've BEEN there, but, simultaneously... she can't keep this up. She can't do this for, like, 30 years more.

Can anyone help? Give advice? We don't live in the US so try to keep that in mind, please.

I want to learn coding by making a very simple game, is this realistic?

Hi, all!

To preface this: I'm under no illusion that I'll have a masterpiece on my hand within half a year. I'm just starting, half my time is gonna be spent messing around. It'll take a lot of time and effort, and up to a point, I'm willing to give it both.

I know next to nothing about coding. Like, I think I kind of understand the logic behind some operations if shown, but practically, I know fuckall.

I've found that just following tutorials i.e. the infamous blender donut just makes information flow through one ear and out the other, bypassing my brain entirely. I think it's because I don't actually have to think about it or try to figure anything out; I see, I copy, I move on. Not helpful.

Instead, it's much easier for me to set my sights on a personal project that seems intimidating but feasible, and splice it together by following random 5 minute tutorials, 10 year old forum posts and whatever I manage to stumble into myself, on a rare occasion. Rinse and repeat for a while with different projects until I'm confident.

I'm also passionate about video games, especially horror. My question is: would you say it's feasible to make a short, simple point and click game without a pre-existing game engine? My question is about coding specifically, assets etc. aren't an issue. From what I understand, C# would be suitable for this. Please, give me your thoughts?

Advice for deleting account?

Hello. I want to delete my account. I'm logged in, but I cannot access my email as it's deleted and can't be recovered. Doing literally anything apparently requires me to have this email address available, including changing the email address, which is... a choice on DA's end I genuinely can't understand the logic of.

I created a ticket, thinking maybe that would help, but apparently I need to gave access to the email account to see the response to that? Please tell me I can just see any response or update to the ticket through DA's actual website. Please.

Anyway, is there anything else I can do? Sorry if I seem angry, it's because I am. Seriously, this is such a basic and frequent issue that it's baffling that they'd make it basically impossible to change your email account if you can't access it.

New user here. Installing using GRUB from USB, keep getting pacman error.

I have basic experience with Mint. I wanted to experiment, so I'm trying to install Cachy on my laptop. It's been 5-ish hours of headaches and confusion.

During the installation process (USB ISO image) I got a pacman failure. I went back and checked everything, and yeah, I had secure boot off, bitlocker is off, everything I know you're supposed to toggle on/off is where it should be.

I'm looking at the mirrors list, half of them have "returned too few bytes" written next to them. I update the list, try to edit the mirror priority to ones that seem good enough, another pacman error. What the hell?

I've tried like 5 different "fixes" and nothing, a bunch of different troubleshooting steps that all come back clean. My internet connection is fine, not the fastest but definitely stable and fast enough to never have been an issue prior. Pings at around 30m/s on average, doesn't drop ONCE.

I'm not an Arch expert or whatever, I know you can run into issues, but I feel like I'm just going insane for something that should be relatively simple. I'm trying to install a distro. There's a dedicated installer, it's not like I'm rawdogging it in the terminal and where I can just make a typo or skip something. It's pretty frustrating to run into an issue like this right off the bat, especially when it seems to evade every fix I've found.

Has anyone experienced this? Any wisdom you can share, ideas of what might be wrong/how to fix it? I'm currently on install attempt no. 3, I might just give up if it fails again and I can't figure it out tomorrow.

Framework 16 for light to medium intensity gaming, 3D graphics and general work/streaming?

I don't plan on running Cyberpunk 2077 on maximum graphics, and excessive fan noise or heat doesn't bother me as long as the laptop can handle it. Ideally, I'd get a gaming laptop, but they aren't modular, they aren't designed to be upgradable or repairable except for the occasional additional SSD slot and such. Looking at the prices, a gaming laptop with specs matching my requirements is either a bit cheaper, or the same price.

However, I've gathered that the FW16 can feel a bit... flimsy? Fragile? I don't tend to be particularly rough with my laptops, but it has me worried nonetheless.

Second, how's the graphics expansion module? Is it worth it, how's the difference with vs. without?

What would you guys recommend?

I'm just torn, honestly. The FW16 offers so much, it would be perfect if it weren't for what seems like unnecessary trade-offs or things that should have been worked out, i.e. the construction quality.

ELI5 How does the hexadecimal system work?

I cannot wrap my head around it. Everytime I have someone explain it to me or look up an article, it feels like it goes from 0 - 100 immediately. I feel like I need someone to explain it with apples and bananas or my favorite cartoon characters like I'm an actual child.

Like, okay, it uses numbers from 0 to 9 and letters A to F. I get that. How do you do anything with that? How does FF become 255??? How does 1000 correspond to 4096? Where are you getting these numbers from??

Edit: thanks everyone, turns out it's not a hexadecimal problem and I'm just genuinely hopeless when it comes to math overall. I'll go through your comments and try to figure it out lol.

Hi, all! My current phone (Samsung Galaxy S20 FE) phone is nearing the end of its life. It's a very good phone, and currently, the issues are repairable, but I'll probably get a new phone in a few years. I've had this one for coming up on 5, and as much as I like it, it'll probably be time to say goodbye.

I'm asking for suggestions on which phone to get. I'm aware of all the various brands, but I figured asking here might reveal some other ones I haven't looked into much, or maybe discouraged me from ones I'm considering it.

I'm looking for a phone that can be rooted without too much hassle. Large storage (at least 256GB) or SD card slot, preferably but not necessarily both. Durable, don't care if it's thick or heavy.

A nice bonus but not a necessity is a headphone jack and some amount of modularity. I used to have a HTC phone, back when you could just pop the case open and gradually lobotomize the phone by removing all the components without a special screwdriver or something, and I miss it so much.

Any suggestions?
