15' of potatoes dug

And soon I'll be seeding in the fall/winter stuff, but the soil is actually fairly compacted. Thinking about adding an amount of compost/wood chips and rototilling that in. Bad season for tilling, but would be the best way to break up the soil and mix in the compost. Either way that's a tomorrow problem

Trying to escape the Beastars look

Playing with redrawing my aggressive deer, but even with a reference pics, he's being stubborn and I feel like I'm being influenced by Beastars, even when I'm trying to avoid that style.

Is this actually that close or am I just imagining it? I'm aware the antlers are kinda wonky, they remain a weakness.

His name is Challenger, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised he's being difficult

Only 1 variety targeted by deer

I'm not talking green tomatoes either, they're taking chunks of actual plant (potato plants as well!) Super weird. Out of all my varieties, only Rebel Starfighter Prime is being munched. Maybe it's because it looks the weakest thinnest? Still growing like it's healthy otherwise, blooming and everything.

Not affected:

  • Roma
  • Yellow brandywine
  • Tasmanian Chocolates
  • Micro tom/yellow micro tom (not sure which they'll be)
  • Mini Marzano

I have determined sweet potatoes are not deer resistant

The regular potatoes behind them were nibbled, but not nearly the same damage. The deer have suddenly started hitting very hard in the last week. The potatoes/ sweet potatoes, some off one of my tomatoes (only Rebel Starfighter Prime affected), carrot and beets and something has even been eating green potatoes.

It makes me remember why I figured prime growing season ended mid July

Trying to learn how to shallow/ deep fry, but afraid of the oil

I'm not afraid of calories, no. I'm actually afraid of how hot the oil gets, the splatter, cleanup, ect. Every time I've tried the food turns out a little soft and greasy- apparently I'm just not getting the oil hot enough? But when I do get the oil hot, everything moves so quick that I get paranoid I'm going to burn things. And even once I finish cooking, what do I do with all the oil after?

First water lily starting to bloom!

My photography skills however continue to suffer. This was from a no-name hardy lily from Amazon. Quite pleased with it and the size seems right for my pond

The anticipation is killing me

Pink Oyster mushrooms popping up between my roma tomato plants- and the first of those are just getting colored up. Mushrooms are grown from Plant and Grow blocks, and have been handling the weather here fine. They've been in the ground for just over a week with daily watering and rain.

Majestic

Her name is Chibi. She's a multi house cat that's super friendly. Very worth buying an entire cam just for this pic

Attempted to sew a bikini without a pattern. I severely underestimated my boobs

Also apparently I now have DDD/F cups? I identify as a guy, I don't even want boobs!

But lesson learned. I will procure an appropriate pattern. I simply regret that for whatever puritanical reason I cannot just wander about shirtless as befits the weather just because I was given the wrong body.

Anyone else do tomato shibari?

I only do this for my romas, who have no dignity as it is. Last year my two biggest broke from insufficient support. This year I have new cages and a certain willingness to make my tomato patch look dumb.

I wouldn't mind if they brached out more to the sides, where the rope is. I have mushrooms planted underneath them, so the shade would be quite beneficial

Anyone else attempting watermelons?

I figure if it's gonna be an El Nino year, I might as well make the most of it. It was a slow start, but I swear this thing grows 6" a day. It has basically endless room in front of it to grow, I just don't want it picking fights with the tomatoes (long story why those two are so close)

It IS a Crimson Sweet, so slight worry it won't set fruit/mature in time

Well I guess when life hands you a free sink...

While I had wanted an outdoor space to prep garden veggies and whatnot, I'm kinda lost at step 1. How do I even get started? What do I need to consider?

Also the sink is sitting on a 4'x2' piece of OBS. It's a biggun, but not too deep. Brand new with original bits

Looking for a pattern for tank top with built in bra

The purchased tops I got really struggle to contain the calamity that is my mammaries (DD). I've gone so far as to thread twill tape through the straps to try and reinforce them but I might have to throw in the towel and just try making a couple myself if I can find a pattern.

It's too hot to not let the girls breathe, but they need to stay in the top and I do need some support. Any ideas?

Latest version vs first- still trying to improve

Pronghorn boy.. He's still not entirely where I want him, but definitely improving. Practice does actually work. I'd jump to computer at this point, but

  1. proof it's not ai

  2. boss can't track what I do in pencil and paper so I can draw at work

  3. yet again I've lost the cable to my drawing pad

Where I'm struggling is that whenever I try a different expression I end up with different proportions and it just feels a bit off. Not great with hair either, which i think might be making the proportion issue worse

First decent pic from my cam

I dug a small pond in my backyard and just wanted to be nosy about what showed up. He happens to be the biggest buck in the neighborhood as well

Anyone else got humorously large leaves?

This is on a yellow Brandywine, which i know can grow some big leaves, but I've never seen one quite this big. The other yellow Brandywines next to it have much more normal size leaves.

Time for science

Is it a good idea to rototill a new patch of ground in July? Likely not, but it's worth trying. For the last pass I did mix in homemade chicken compost and winecap mycelium, and immediately covered it in grass clippings.

Why?I had volunteer tomatoes that were trying SO hard that they guilt tripped me into saving them. I also had a bag of fingerling potatoes that needed used, sprouting ginger, sweet potatoes and whatever else end up tossed in there. I was able to use up some otherwise wasted soaker hose as well, which was quite nice

Next spring I'll just till an L shaped garden and include this patch, but it will be an interesting to see if July 4th is the actual cutoff day for when you can be planting tomato starts and potatoes. I don't have huge expectations, I just wanna see what happens

Starting from seeds?

Might seem a bit odd, but my partner and I are starting to go through some pretty massive life changes that aren't going to be 'ready' for the world to see for a few years at least. I'd like some kind of living monument to this strange time in our lives.

But also ignoring prices, I realized I would rather have the experience of growing a tree (or a few) from seeds and enjoying as it grows rather than utilizing a start. I've done this with a few other trees, including a now-fruiting coffee tree that's over 15 years old. I grew up near a JM nursery where the wife would raise their maples and crosses from seed, and saw how beautiful those were, so I know it's possible. Unfortunately for my brain, this means I must do it this way.

Has anyone else tried this?

Anyone got good venison recipes?

I HAD a fantastic pumpkin plant that was growing like crazy and blooming pretty good. I come back outside in the morning and every single leaf and flower was eaten, but not the vine itself. I have another plant of the same variety, and several other squash plants, but I'm concerned Bambi is going to come right back for round 2.

I've got deer netting I can put up, but that's more a suggestion leave plants alone. They did the exact same thing to my strawberry plants earlier in the year

Those darn deer are lucky I like them
