Y700 (8 Elite Gen 5) PC Emulation Efficiency?

How is the thermals and power consumption? PC games I'll play are just lightweight ish titles. Dredge, Sea of Stars, Celeste, Stardew Valley, Mega Man Battle Network/Star Force, and such through Game Native.

I have a Gamesir X5S and FX5 lite cooler. I was wondering if I can ditch the cooler. Bypass charging I might keep but wondering if a cooler is no longer necessary for these games. If the battery won't heat up if not on bypass charging.

Although I am curious about games like Expedition 33, Pragmata, FFVII, Crimson Desert, and 007 First Light. Those are the ones on my Steam play list. Hahaha. These ones I am for sure using a cooler and bypass charging. How's the performance for these ones?

I currently have the Y700 Gen 3 but PC emulation makes the device heat up a bit even with bypass charging and I use a cooler. I am mainly concerned about the battery thermals and power consumption.

Truth be told I am okay with streaming because my PC is quite capable but when I am outside I want something to use without latency. Tried tailscale and I am not getting good latency. I am even considering an Xbox Ally X but I don't really want anything that chunky so I am wondering if the Y700 Gen 5 is enough for my usecase.

Thinking of switching from IPS to OLED. I am mainly concerned about motion smoothness. Please share your experience.

I currently have the Asus XG27ACG and AOC 24G2E. I can see the difference in contrast between the two because I have the Panda panel on the AOC so the contrast ratio is higher than on the Asus so I guess I already understand that the OLED will be an improvement for contrast and blacks.

My only point of comparison for an OLED is an iPad Pro M4 and S25 but I believe there's a difference in motion smoothness because of the size difference and something with our eyes. Planning to get a 27 inch 1440p OLED.

I have also noticed that when I play 60fps gameplay videos on my Asus monitor in a smaller window, it looks smoother. I wonder if I will get that same motion smoothness but in full screen if I switch to an OLED monitor? If not the same level of smoothness because of the size difference, will it still be an improvement?

I have a pretty okay PC. I can hit around 80 to 90 FPS on Expedition 33 at the highest settings but with DLSS on Quality. At that point will it be worth switching in terms of motion smoothness?

For the colors I think most of what I see here are oversaturated stuff. I kinda prefer the more natural looking image which is usually on the IPS monitor. I feel like really big improvement in image quality is only in the contrast, blacks, shadows, and stuff like that. Otherwise the colors is the same if you have a good IPS panel? Please correct me on this.

Cancelled my order so fast

Placed the first order at 7 am or something yesterday and I was checking other stuff at around 1 pm and saw the price. I thought it was a from a fake store at first. Hahaha.

Flathead for jogging? For desk use? Both?

Wingtips might be what I am really looking for but I still have not bought any flathead earbuds for now so I made this post.

I just placed an order for the Moondrop Old Fashioned and Snowsky Retro Nano. I then remembered I need some for jogging and if maybe the Old Fashioned is not my jam I have a backup.

I need something light but can stay in my ear. I am not really sure what weight I should aim for. Does the wingtips help negate the need for very light earbuds?

I was looking at the Moondrop Nicebuds, NiceHCK YDX, NiceHCK EB2S Pro , and Fiio FF1. Dunu Alpha 3 I saw as well but does not seem appropriate for a jog but is good for a desk setup.

I guess I am looking for something for jogging and something for desk use. Maybe there's something for both. My budget might be around the Dunu Alpha 3 but of course it is nice if it can be cheaper.

RayNeo Air 4 Pro - First Impressions

PURCHASE

Ordered the RayNeo Air 4 Pro through Lazada. I think it was the official store from RayNeo. I bought it for 250 Dollars (after conversion).

UNBOXING

It was packed with bubble wrap and there were minimal dents on the box. Nothing really concerning. Receipt included.

The first box is a brown box with a guide to rip it open. The box inside is nice. It was easy to open. Just let it drop down I guess. The glasses was inside the carrying case. The cable was also inside the carrying case and it was tied down by a small strap inside and that was nice.

I would not put it back with the glasses though because I won't cover the male port with the plastic but that was a nice touch.

ITEMS INSIDE

Carrying Case. The front of the case is somewhat hard. It is harder to press down on compared to the rest of the case. I think you'll have to be careful with it still but it'll do for me. It smells nice. Hahaha.

Cable. It is about 1.1 or 1.2 meters. Compared it to my 1m cable. It is good enough for a table or phone but if I'll connect it to my PC it is too short. Would have been nice if it was braided but it's as thick as my Anker cable. That's solid.

Cleaning Cloth. It looks nice. It works.

Nose Pads. Two other nose pads. Haven't tried yet. The initial one fits me well.

RayNeo Air 4 Pro. It is plastic. Doesn't feel premium but it looks nice. The finish is good for plastic I guess. I was excited though. I kinda made a sound when I opened the case not gonna lie.

Cover. It's plastic. It snaps on below. The top just sits.

GLASSES - PHYSICAL

Usage Time. I have used the glasses a total of 3 hours. First is a 1 hour continuous usage and the second is 2 hours. These are my experiences. Will be watching a Valorant Livestream (Masters London) so will edit this post of leave a comment after that.

Weight. It is lighter than I expected. When I wear my prescription glasses I feel the nose pad clamping on my nose. The nose pads though I do not push it down on my nose. It is just sitting on the top of my nose. If I do push it down it does put pressure. I will try to get the Oakley stuff or something to see but so far it is okay.

The Fit. The glasses' temple opens up a bit. Stretches a good bit but it does not really crush my skull. Okay so it is comfortable for me so far.

I measured my IPD and it is about 63mm to 65mm. It's good for me. I have to raise temple a bit but since it clamps on my head a bit, it does not easily fall. It falls a bit when I am sitting while looking a bit down but when I am laying down or my head tilted up it is good.

Temple Adjustment. I cannot do it. I feel like I'll break it. I cannot adjust it. Hahaha.

Temperature. Okay for the heat. I am in an airconditioned room with the temperature set to 27. The right side and the top part that can touch the top of your eyebrows is what gets warm.

The temple part gets warm if I touch it but I do not feel it with my head but I do have long hair that can cover my ears so the skin on the top of my ear is not exposed.

The top part that touches the skin above my eyebrows if I really want the screen in there I can feel it a bit. It got moist from some sweat but putting it on there is not really needed but I do find it a bit more immersive or a better fit for my eyes so there is that.

Reflections. I have the snap on cover but I can still reflections. I can see my arms. on the glasses. Not the screen itself but the glasses part. It is a bit distracting sometimes but once you focus on the content you are watching/playing I do not notice it anymore.

GLASSES - SCREEN

Screen Size. It is at a good distance. I can see the whole screen well. It does not make me want to move my head to comfortably see. I think they set a good distance but I feel like it can feel bigger if we could have zoomed in but I guess that's the trade off for the price. Solid distance though. I do not have to move my eyes too much to see the edges and go left to right or top to bottom. Good FOV I guess?

The edges are quite good but with some configurations I can understand the edge blurriness that I've been reading about. It exists but it can be fixed for my case. It is specially clearer to me if I do push the glasses towards me more but it is good even without that.

It is nice. It has that cinema feeling for sure. I love watching at a cinema and it gave me that feeling. It's not instant though. It had to settle but once I got lost in it I felt it.

Resolution. It is 1080p but it is crisp. Aliasing is not obvious to me. This can be a huge advantage for games. Less burden on your GPU specially on the VRAM. Will update this part in 3-4 days. Might be an edit or a comment.

OLED. Okay for the OLED screen. The brightness is really good but I cannot really feel that OLED contrast? For reference I am using a Lenovo Y700 Gen 3. It's an 8.8 inch LCD screen. The blacks are the same for me. My Lemorele LD50 is yet to arrive so I cannot connect it to my PC yet.

For context. I have two IPS monitors. One 27 inch 1440p and one 24 inch 1080p. The 24 inch has better contrast than the 27 inch. The 27 inch has that washed out look compared.

I tried streaming using Artemis. The gray banding is present for me. When I look at Steam UI. The grey parts have banding. Streamed footage though. At around 40Mbps quality. Really excited to see how it is directly connected to my PC.

The advantage for me compared to my IPS displays is that I can see some details more. Shadows are clearer. Not washed out but clearer. The motion is also better than my IPS. It is a bit smoother. No ghosting for me.

The brightness is really good too. It does not hurt my eyes even at the highest brightness. The brightness has 8 levels. I set mine 2 to 3 above the bottom as I like it better but it doesn't fry my eyes even if I try higher.

One of the reasons I want to try these glasses is the OLED tech. I do have an S25 but I want to test out a "big" OLED screen before I buy an OLED monitor and I don't know. I really have to compare it to my IPS monitor to see the difference but with my tablet I am not sure there is a big advantage for colors or maybe I'm just bad at comparing. I guess it works better for me because I am waiting for the Penta Tandem QD-OLED so this makes me not want to get an OLED monitor as I do not really see that big of a difference compared to my tablet.

Typing/Productivity. Nope. Text size is really small for typing words. I tried to type part of this Reddit posting while using the glasses and it is really not good for me. Maybe that's because of my eyes but it is really small. Subtitle on movies and anime are okay though but text on Windows Explorer, Notepad, and this Reddit post is small.

USAGE

I used it while laying in bed, while sitting on a chair, and while walking around. I also tried typing.

Laying in Bed. It is the most comfortable. It is really nice being able to lay down with your body straight and your head and eyes straight up without having to hold up a tablet or phone or laying on the side crushing your one eye against a pillow to put the tablet on a stand.

It is very comfortable while laying in bed. I can use my tablet as a trackpad but it is the typing that is of course in the hard side. That's the only disadvantage I guess. I have my tablet plugged in because it has two USB-C ports and bypass charging so there's that.

Power Usage. Without bypass charging though, while watching YouTube and Netflix (display on tablet is still open as mouse cursor) the power consumption is around 1,000 mAh. It is a huge jump. Brightness is at level 3 (lowest is 0).

Sitting on a Chair. It is good. Specially when laying back. It is comfy as well.

Walking Around. It is not really making me dizzy. It can be shaky but I do walk pretty straight/weird (people have mentioned it). Sorry about that. Hahaha. Not a good point of comparison.

CONCLUSION

It is nice. It works. It is cool new tech for me.

The colors are comparable to my tablet so that's a lack of advantage for an item you have to buy separately when you already have a screen on your device.

This is not really concluded though. I still have to compare it to my IPS monitor while gaming directly connected to my PC. I can see some washed out blacks/greys on my 27 inch IPS monitor. If I can see a difference there, the worth of these glasses for me will increase.

The privacy is really good. That is a big advantage. No one can see what you are doing. The sound is good enough for me. I can hear it clearly but there not much background noise around me. Still. Good enough for sure. I can understand the people who say they use it in bed with their partner sleeping next to them.

The motion is good. It has that OLED motion I guess because the smoothness and the blur is not really there or less when I move the camera fast. That's good.

So far though I do not think it is a must buy. I guess it depends on your device you use to watch content. There's a huge advantage in comfortability if your IPD matches and your eyes are good but if your content watching/gaming device already has a good screen I think it's not a must buy. Really cool tech.

I do not regret buying it though. Will keep it. It is comfortable when laying on your bed and that's huge for me. My use case in weekdays will be good because I want to lay on my bed after coming home from work. Chilling. That's going to be nice. I can see myself really enjoying that. I can do it with my tablet but as someone who sleeps laying down face up this is really good for me. It removed an annoyance for me.

I am still hopeful the value for me will increase though. Once the adapter arrives and I can connect it to my PC I really want to try it for games. I have an RTX 5070 Ti so I want to see the raytracing stuff on the glasses. Will be playing Expedition 33, Pragmata, 007 First Light, and Crimson Desert. Might reinstall MW 2019 to check how it is for FPS. Excited for that. Also hoping the banding will disappear because I am no longer streaming my PC to my tablet to the glasses.

If that happens, the price for OLED qualities is going to be huge. My 27 inch 1440p is about 40 dollars more when I bought it about 2 years ago compared to the RayNeo Air 4 Pro.

Now, if the screen quality is comparable to the pricier glasses, this price point is really good. The ability to watch movies and play games while laying down without having to hold up a screen above your face is huge. That's the main thing for me. You get the comfort and function. Although some have said they like 3DoF because they feel dizzy otherwise.

Might do another post specifically for gaming. Then once I purchase a Penta Tandem 1440p QD-OLED monitor I will compare it to that as well but that's at least 6 months from now I guess.

IMPROVEMENTS

The cover. If it can cover your peripheral vision more it would be more immersive for sure. Right now I can still see lights outside and it can be distracting at the start.

The reflections as well. I see my arms and stuff.

The weight of the GT seems better. The Air 4 Pro is comfortable enough for me but being 12 grams lighter than the Air 4 Pro that's going to be an improvement for sure.

Efficiency. The heat and power drain is hopefully improved upon. 1,000 mAh for watching YouTube or Netflix for a tablet using a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is high. The heat that I can feel on the top of my eyebrows is present. Not bad but it can make my skin sweat a bit if it is really close. I guess the Air 4 Pro without the chip for spatial computation has an advantage there?

RayNeo Air 4 Pro use case? How is it for games?

I just ordered the Air 4 Pro. I maybe should have waited for the GT or GT Max for the 3DoF but yeah. So far I am mostly thinking to use it with my Y700 tablet for movies and emulation. That one has two USB-C ports so no problem with the battery. For PC I have the Lemorele LD50 and that's mostly games and movies as well.

I really cannot think of other things to use it for. Hahaha. Maybe there's some fun suggestions?

For games I have a fairly capable PC. My only worry is that the glasses do not have VRR, right? How is it? Do you experience screen tearing? What are your work arounds to this? Set it to 60hz and limit the fps to 60? I kind of plan to play fairly demanding games like Crimson Desert, Pragmata, Expedition 33, and that sort of games.

Edit: I currently use a 27 inch 1440p monitor. I am about a forearm away from my monitor when I use my PC. Am I going to experience a "bigger" screen? Is the resolution decrease going to be noticeable?

Osmo Pocket 4 or Sony ZV-E10?

Having a hard time choosing between these two options. I know this sub might be biased but I feel like it is also going to be a good place to gather info.

I am going to use a camera to film my rare trips outside, eating food with my SO, maybe some hiking, a fun run if ever, and others. I also want to use it to take photos.

For home use, I want to use it as a webcam.

Okay. For the home use I know the Sony is better because of the quality and the dummy battery so it does not heat up. So there is that. Maybe I am wrong though.

For the outdoor use there is the convenience of the Pocket 4. It is lighter. Less bulky. Gimbal. Smaller accessories.

What do you think? I am leaning towards the Osmo Pocket 4 because of the outdoor use but I think the image quality on the Sony ZV-E10 is better and better as a webcam?

OLED Monitor or Lenovo Y700 Gen 5?

I have an IPS monitor. 27 inch, 1440p, and 180hz. I also have a RTX 5070 Ti. I am looking at a 1440p 27 inch Tandem WOLED or the upcoming Penta Tandem QD-OLED.

I have a Y700 Gen 3 but it has a crack on the screen. I'll use it for emulation. The Gen 5 is a huge leap in performance and battery capacity on the Gen 3. Next year is going to be the release of the 2nm chipsets too.

I cannot really choose between them. I don't know. I feel like the OLED is the better option. Maximize my RTX 5070 Ti and gaming experience but the recent improvement on emulation is really impressive.

I feel like OLED is the answer but I just cannot let it go. I need some opinions on the two items. Thank you very much.

Lenovo Y700 Gen 5 or Odin 3 Max in terms of cooling?

This is my real decider for this. The Y700 has the 8 Elite Gen 5 so stronger processor that is more efficient but Odin 3 has a built in fan. If the Y700's thermals (mainly the battery) is not that bad because it has a bigger body and a vapor chamber, I will choose that over the Odin 3.

I am leaning towards the Y700 for the performance but the Odin 3 has its merits as well. I know it has a smaller screen than the Y700 and 8 Elite instead of the 8 Elite Gen 5 but it has an AMOLED display, a built in fan, and a lighter weight. My only worry about the Odin 3 is the controllers. If it breaks it might be harder to replace than just buying a telescopic controller.

I already have the Y700 Gen 3 but it has a bit of a crack on its screen so I was hoping to replace it but Odin 3 with how lightweight it is seems enticing. I also already have a Gamesir X5s and the FX5 cooler.

271QPX32 how much do you think it will be priced?

I was aiming to buy the XG27AQWMG but stocks are out and then I saw this announced. It seems perfect because it eliminates the gray banding and VRR flicker. More scratch resistance is awesome as well.

But if it's like 50% more than the XG27AQWMG, I think I'd rather buy that one once stock replenishes.

Any guesses? What's your opinion on the Penta Tandem QD OLED as well? Worth the wait? It seems like it for me as long as the price is okay as well.

What monitors have the 3H coating or when will it relase?

If you already have a monitor with it, is it huge improvement over the 2H?

Is it worth it for you? I feel like it'll be worth it due to not having to worry as much with cleaning.

If not worth the wait, I'm planning to buy the XG27AQWMG or MO27Q28G.

I currently have two monitors. First is a 24 inch AOC 24G2E that is using the Panda panel. Second is a 27 inch ASUS XG27ACG that I bought about 2 years ago.

The jump from 1080p to 1440p and 24 to 27 inch is awesome but I miss the contrast ratio from my AOC monitor. You can see the difference. The blacks on the AOC are greyish on the ASUS. Shadows are more pronounced as well.

I bet OLED is way better on that front but what I am curious about is the motion. When I move the camera on a game fast, will it be smoother than on an IPS? How about on 60 FPS?

The cleaning as well. I want to know what special stuff do I need to do? I read OLEDs only have a 2H on durability so it scratches easy. How do you handle cleaning it?

Thinking of getting the ASUS XG27AQWMG but I understand tandem WOLED panels are prone to gray banding. How often will you see it if the panel suffers from it?

Think of the MSI 272QP X24 or MO27Q2 if QD OLED because it is cheaper and safer from gray banding.

I understand newer panels will have a tougher coating of 3H. Is it worth waiting for? Only want 1440p because I only have a 5070 Ti and I want higher frames over higher resolution.

Thank you very much.
