The demo of my historical, slice-of-life VN releases on the 16th!

The demo of my slice-of-life visual novel set in 1920s Paris releases on October 16th on Steam, just in time for Steam Next Fest!

It will be a limited time thing; I'll disable it after the end of the event, so make sure to try it out if you're interested. The full game will be free as well and is almost finished, so I hope you'll look forward to it too!

I hope you will enjoy your time with Olivier and his friends!

(Pour les francophones qui passent par là : la démo est dispo en français aussi ! En vrai c'est la langue originale du jeu héhé)

>192X. As summer draws near, Parisian students are revising their end-of-year exams. Olivier is one of them. For years, he has been walking to school every morning with his dearest childhood friend, and has unwound with his artistic peers after class. In a week, this routine will come to a close. And recent revelations already threaten Olivier’s comfortable life.

Thoughts on my title screen?

Finally finished drawing the title screen of my game today! Decided to go with an illustration featuring my protagonist (can you guess who it is?) and his friend group. What are your thoughts on it? Does it look inviting enough? :>

Looking for non-romance (guardian) angel books

Okay so basically I've always been super into angels and am always looking more angel books. I really like to see them and their relationship with humanity and stuff being explored in fiction.

The problem is that I've ended up super picky and that they are many tropes in that niche I'm just tired seeing. I feel like all angel book recs besides super well-known ones like Good Omens just end up being high-fantasy YA romance or smut...

I'm neither religious nor spiritual so I'd prefer books to not be super preachy or anything but I can bear with it if it's some kind of hidden gem otherwise.

What I'm looking for:

Books with at least one important angel character or otherwise an angel focus and that doesn't revolve around a romantic plot.

Bonus points if it features some kind of platonic "guardian angel/ward" relationship between the angel and an established human character, but I'll consider anything.

I am NOT looking for:

  • Romance, especially if angels are involved somehow (human/angel or angel/angel). I can tolerate human/human if it's a side thing ig, but it shouldn't be the main appeal of the book.
  • Big supernatural melting pots. I'd like the book to focus on angels only, I'm not interested in universes in which other supernatural beings like fairies or vampires or whatever exist (demons are okay for obvious reasons).
  • The "angels are actually the baddies/eldritch aliens with a twisted sense of morality" trope; I prefer wholesome and comforting takes on angels! They don't necessarily have to be perfect little goody-two-shoes but at least generally benevolent towards humanity.
  • Angels that aren't actually angels. Dunno if it makes sense, but I'm not interested in characters that are "close enough"-vibe wise but aren't called angels in-text.

Some stuff I've already read (in order of most to least liked):

  • When the Angels Left the Old Country by Sacha Lamb (2022): I loved ittttttt can every angel book be like that please and thanks.
  • The Revolt of the Angels by Anatole France (1914): I have a soft spot for it for several reasons although it features my "author shows the angel character's newfound 'humanity' by making them fall in love with a human" pet peeve but I forgive it in virtue of the book being over a century old.
  • A Guardian Angel Recalls by Willem Frederik Hermans (1971): I really enjoyed it, the premise of the narrator being the guardian angel of the protagonist is gold. Wish this concept was made use of a bit more though, the angel focus is surprisingly pretty low! I enjoyed the plot for other reasons.
  • The Forbidden Book by Sacha Lamb (2024): Bought it because it's the same author as WtALtOC. Technically there's an angel character in there but again, the focus on them is too low for me to enjoy it as an angel book. It's cool tho
  • Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman (1990): I’ve read the novel before the series!! But I have to admit it’s a bit of a blur now. I remember being a bit bored at times, as there's a lot of focus on stuff that isn't exactly angel stuff.

I also have a copy of The Stupidest Angel at home I plan to read once I'm finished with other stuff. I've seen His Dark Materials being recommended but I'm afraid it's too high-fantasy and doesn't have a high enough angel-focus for my liking.

Some character sprites I've made for my VN!

Some character sprites I've made for my VN!

These are just samples I mostly use to showcase the game's art direction and character designs. In-game sprites have more expressions, poses and sometimes clothes, but I want to keep some element of surprise when the game will release!

Some more character sprites I've made for my VN!

I had previously posted some other sprites a few months ago and you lot seemed to have liked them, so here are some more!

Did my own versions of the transfem/trans woman and transmasc/trans man flags real quick because I was wondering how my idea would look. Same concept as the OGs but with the colours and layout of the regular trans flag bc the less stripes the better

Happy Pride Month to all queer farmers! 🏳️‍🌈 Here's a trans flower field 🏳️‍⚧️

I considered making other flags too but I quickly realised this was pretty much the only one I could do, given the small number of colours I can use...
