In season 8.5, there are many characters in the “hitscan” role that I would personally put above Phoenix. Now, we all here don’t give a shit about who’s better and we play our goat anyways, but it’s undeniable that her range/sustain nerf weakened her in comparison to her mid/short range gun hero counterparts (Star, Psy, Bucky, Elsa, Scott).

Despite this, people in as far up as Celestial 1 and Eternity insist that Phoenix needs to stay a perma ban and let Elsa Bloodstone and Starlord through the ban phase, which is just insane to me.

Now considering the reasons why this is happening is an interesting study in group dynamics and how public chatter and echo chambers influences perception and opinions of certain characters. Parroting high level players, only looking at tierlists from streamers, engaging in ragebait posts are just a few reasons why this happens, but another ive noticed also has to do with short seasons.

Even at the highest level, it takes about two weeks for pro teams to figure out what the meta is for that patch. And the general playerbase is even further behind them. So in terms of balance, the populous is still thinking about Phoenix like she was in s7.5 and s8 with long range poke and high sustain. This is just not the case anymore, as we all know.

What takes on jean have yall seen recently that had you scratching your head? How has your experience been playing her this patch?

Genuinely curious, why is cyclops more popular for Duelist mains than other hitscan characters?

Since the start of 8.5 I’ve seen many players in my lobbies playing Cyclops. This is to be expected! Scott is a beloved character from the comics, he’s the new duelist hero, lots of people were bound to try him out and enjoy him.

However, there is a bit of a dichotomy that I’ve noticed among my fellow duelist mains that gets me wondering. Why Scott? In my opinion, Cyclops’s kit design is no more enjoyable than Phoenix, Elsa, Star, Psy or Hela, but many duelist mains from all archetypes flood to play Scott and absolutely hated playing as other hitscan characters in past seasons.

So my question is, why is that? For those cyclops mains out there, what draws you to him more than other ranged heroes? What were you playing before you added Scott to your repertoire? And what stopped you from pursuing similar heroes in past seasons?

I’ve had enough of bigots not getting banned for making death/rape threats against me

For starters, I’m a trans woman with a pretty clocky voice who insists on using voice comms anyways. I play frequently in Celestial 2-Eternity lobbies these days where someone in voice doing ultimate tracking or otherwise shotcalling and comming isn’t necessary, but helpful for the team. I’m happy to do it, i have decent enough experience with it to be pretty okay at it.

But once in a while, but more frequently recently, I’ll get some jackass on my team throwing, pitching a bitch fit, or making doxx, death and rape threats against me because i chose to speak in the team-based shooter, IN THE TOP .5% OF THE PLAYERBASE. Reporting does little, spammed or otherwise. And if they are banned, it’s a 24 hour chat mute. FOR DEATH THREATS. FOR RAPE THREATS. I am utterly sick of it.

Every day of my life, I am forced to endure unending abuse from the world around me. And all I want to do at the end of the day is play a super hero video game to relax. But no, you mouth breathing, repugnant, degenerate FUCK HEADS decide to ruin someone’s day because you’re too mentally deficient and so devoid of basic humanity to see that your WORDS are HURTFUL.

And to those of you who want to tell me to turn off chats and just play, I’ll say this to you: No. I should not be forced to segregate myself from a fundamental game mechanic because a bunch of bigots want to ruin the game experience for me. YOU are the ones who need to turn off the fucking chats, since y’all can’t seem to go one fucking game instalocking your champion spidey or lord mister fantastic and tell ME that i am a degenerate creep who should join the other 41%, go FUCK YOURSELF.

This game is a good product with better balance than people like to give it credit for. The reason this game dies, is because the actually good and decent people who like the game will eventually get fed up with the abuse and leave it, leaving only the worst to play it.
