Baby seems to like other family members more than me…

My baby seems to like other family members much more than me. He will want to go into daddy’s arms whenever he is in my arms and sees dad pass. He will actively pull his hands towards dad and grab him by his shirt. Same is with grandma. If I pass, it seems like he doesn’t even notice.
When sitting on the floor and I call him, he will look at me and maybe smile a bit. When dad calls him he will smile, crawl to him and raise his arms so that he picks him up.
I’m his primary caregiver and spend all of my day with him. He is my first and long awaited baby… maybe im being silly but it just feels sad that he doesn’t have the same reaction to me.

What are you doing to keep them busy and entertained at home

My 8 month old crawls and pulls up to stand and it seems that pulling up, looking around and crawling onto the next piece of furniture to pull is everything he is interested in, but understandably quickly gets bored.
With the heat wave and almost no covered places with activities for such little ones, I’m not sure how to keep him entertained during the day especially that the wake windows are getting longer now.

Any activities your little ones particularly enjoy at this stage?

No babbling at 8 months

Im a very worried first time mother and I’ve been preoccupied for babbling these days.

My baby is 8 months and 8 days and is fairly developed on the motor skills side. He gets himself in and out of independent seating position, he crawls on all fours for about a month now, he pulls to stand on anything he can find and this morning seems to have started cruising in his crib. We are not babbling yet though

He is socially engaged, smiles at strangers, loves peek-a-boo, knows his name and hears loud sounds. We have shrieking and screaming like a dinosaur the hole day long. He coos and says his vowels. We also had weeks of raspberries blowing which declined now. He often goes “mmmmmmm” or “mmmm-mmmm-mmmm” especially with something in his mouth. Occasionally we get a ma or a meh sound. We are yet to hear though the classic babbling with mamama or bababa or anything along those lines.

Everything I read online is that babbling should be present at 8 months, that it develops between 6-7 and that if we don’t see any in 3 weeks it’s a red flag.

Once again, I’m super worried. How’s everyone else doing with babbling?

Does anyone else strongly rely on movement to fall asleep?

My 8 month old takes all his naps in the stroller and I also settle him in the stroller for night sleep and transfer once he is asleep. Thankfully he does well with transfers. But movement is a must for us to fall asleep and he loves that the stroller can give this constant calm motion. Rocking is not an option since he is getting heavy and it’s too painful on my c-section scar.

I understand that at this point it’s probably a strong seep association but there is no way he will fall asleep without it. Once he is asleep I can stop moving the stroller so he doesn’t need constant motion to stay asleep.

Anyone in a similar boat? How are we going to tackle this?

7 month old back to feeding in the night and struggles to fall asleep

My 7 month old is EFF and recently went back to feeding in the night. Before he used to feed closer to 5:00 but not he requests a bottle earlier even though his daily intake has gradually been increased. He feeds anywhere between 2:00 and 2:30 so quite punctual. This doesn’t shift no matter if he takes his last bottle at 19:00 or 20:30. It made me think that it’s a habit, but it’s not just a need to suck. He screams if the bottle is not given to him and takes a full 180ml feed so I lean towards genuine hunger. I never refuse the feed but it worries me why we are almost moving backwards in terms of feeding in the night rather than making improvements?

He is also now struggling to resettle at night both after the feed and in general if he wakes up for any other reasons. He will twist and turn and burry his face into the mattress wanting to sleep but seems to be struggling to turn off. I pat, shush, stroke, give a pacifier and have white noise on but nothing seems to work. I have to get him in the stroller and give constant movement for this struggle to end.

Please help a very tired mama out… is it a sleep regression?

7 month old suddenly refuses solids

My baby is 7 months old. We are doing the classic weaning with purées and spoon-feeding. We started at the end of 5 months introducing fruits first, then the rest. For now just lunch. I try to feed him lunch 4 hours after his morning milk. This is usually when he would have formula but we substitute it with solids now. He was doing beautifully finishing the hols plate but as of 5 days he is refusing his meal. He takes only a few spoons and then starts to shut his mouth, protest, arch, kick his legs and cry. So we stop.

I always feed him when he is not too hungry, well rested, the food is of comfortable temperature. I’m really lost. Otherwise he seems to be doing well and happy.

I’m not sure if it’s teething that might bother him but I didn’t notice him being uncomfortable outside of these feeding moments. Possibly the heatwave?

I’m lost and really saddened by this

7 month old requires movement to fall asleep. Wondering when this will change

Since the very beginning my LO requires movement to fall asleep. Once he is asleep the movement can stop and he will continue sleeping, but to get him to sleep movement is a must. It seems like even if he is tired his body doesn’t get the message that it’s sleep time until the rocking begins. I usually rock for bedtime and then transfer and for daytime sleep it’s always in the stroller. Either during our walk outside or I still put him in the stroller and move him forward and back even when he takes a nap at home. Primarily this is because baby is becoming heavy, my c-section scar still hurts to I can’t hold and rock him for long, it’s also real hot here right now so we both overheat and get overstimulated from each other. On especially tiring or difficult days I begun to settle him in the stroller also for night sleep and then transfer to his crib. Not sure why but I feel guilty about it and so try to rock him in arms still for most nights.

I definitely will not be trying any aggressive sleep training of any sort and the only thing we tried is rocking for about 10 minutes, placing in crib and if he still stirs and starts to move around shushing and patting. Frankly this doesn’t really work. I find that he just twists and turns for more than 20 minutes until he gets frustrated, begins crying and I come back to rocking. So these 20 mins don’t get us anywhere.

My main question is… I know that one day he will get over the need to be rocked. No 15 years old is still being pushed around in their stroller to fall asleep. I’m just a bit confused on when can I expect it to happen and how? If Im against training him and this is what we do each night in one form or the other, will he just one day go lay down in bed and fall asleep?

AITAH for starting to ignore my acquaintance’s (who has a diagnosed condition) constant voice messages?

I have an acquaintance who is several decades older than me and has previously shared with me that she has bipolar disorder. She expressed to me several times that she considers me her only best friend even though she acknowledges that this is not the case for me. She says that all other female friendships in her life don’t work out because she “scares” the women off with her diagnosis, they are jealous of her and are all fake and untruthful. According to her I am different. I’m not sure why she thinks this way of me because it’s not that we spend a lot of time together, meet often, have something in common or have a true friendship. I’m just comprehensive of her struggles linked to her diagnosis and in general try to be kind to others both through actions and words.

A few months ago, when in time of mania, she started to send me several voice messages a day. While at the beginning it was bearable and I thought she is just having a few days in which she feels lonely and wants to share some events that occurred in her life (that I only briefly replied to), later it completely blew out of proportion. I get multiple multiple voice messages a day (5/7/10 minutes long) in which she tells me about every little detail of her daily life. What she wore today, what she ate, where did she go, what she talked about with colleagues, any minor events that happened etc. Some details are SUPER personal such as medical issues, intimate relationships and so on. While she might be comfortable to share these things with me, I am not comfortable listening to them which I tried to point out to her but it had no effect. There is absolutely no physical possibility (and frankly any desire) to listen to all these messages and engage in all these conversations with her so my replies would be always polite but very brief and only to certain parts of what she told me. I felt bad for not replying at all, so replied a few words to only certain things. This is to say that I don’t think I caused this escalation in her behaviour by actively engaging in the conversation. She also has a spending problem which I learned is a common occurrence with her disorder. She also knows that she has this issue, but that doesn’t stop her from buying things. Now her new tactic is to tell me what she wants to buy, how much it costs and then tell me “I will buy it if you think I should”. I’m not sure where this came from because I never engaged/commented/reacted in any way to her spending habits and to what she buys. I am absolutely not comfortable with the fact that she just chose to put this responsibility on me.

Because I can’t and don’t want to keep up with this constant noise of someone else’s daily life during my day, I silenced our chat. My replies to her became even more rare, spaced out in time, a lot of the voice messages would go even unopened. I would write to her saying that I’m having a very busy day with my infant child and I just don’t have my phone 24/7 on me. She would then say that she is upset that I don’t listen to what she is telling me, that her day is sad if I don’t reply to her and started to ask me for photos of my baby to cheer her up. This absolutely floored me because 1. I am not comfortable with sharing photos of my baby with everyone especially when they are requested 2. My baby is not a tool for cheering someone up. I tried to then gently explain to her that I am unable to keep up with the baby, the household, my personal activities and all these messages and that’s why she doesn’t get the replies she might wish for or expect from me and that I’m not comfortable to share photos of my baby on demand. This didn’t help though because her behaviour didn’t change at all.

It now got to the point that I completely ignore her messages and started to ignore her calls because I know that everything that she will tell me is that she is sad and upset that I don’t reply to her. I had some people say to me that I should cut her slack because obviously she has a condition and that’s why she is behaving this way but I just can’t continue listening to all this stuff and think of what to reply and engage in this never ending conversation while having to go about my day with a little baby to take care of.

I understand that this behaviour is probably something driven by her diagnosis and not something that she can easily control. I feel bad and guilty that I am going no contact with her especially because of how highly she thinks of our “friendship” but I just don’t know how to deal with it otherwise and, as previously stated, I can’t and don’t want to keep up with her daily life and all the intimate details.

6 month old feeding intervals

My LO is 6 month old (nearly 7) and is EFF. Our paediatrician said when she was explaining how to introduce solids that our current feeding schedule of every 4 hours feeds of 210ml formula is a bit too often and that it’s time to increase this interval. She proposed my offering a bigger feeds. But my baby doesn’t even sometimes finish his 210ml, so making 240ml would be just a waste of formula. He also still feeds one time during the night anywhere between 3am and 6am. Paediatrician said that she would expect this feed to be dropped by now and for him to sleep without a feed until the morning rise. However my baby is good at self regulation and there is no way I can and no way I would be absolutely willing to force milk into him. Her comment made me a bit worried that we are doing something wrong but there is little I can control in this situation I think.

Just wanted to hear from other mums with EFF babies as to what is your feeding schedule is like? How often do you feed and do you still feed at night?

6 month old and expected to sleep through the night by paediatrician

My baby is 6 month old (7 in a few days) and is EFF. I’m going to preface this by saying that I am overall very content with the outcome paediatrician and I’m pretty sure she is the best in our area. However when we had our 6 month visit in which she explained how we should introduce solids, she said that baby should begin now to sleep through the night and not feed until the morning when he wakes up for the day.

Currently my baby takes 210 ml (sometimes he leaves a little) of formula about every 4 ours during the day. Has the last bottle about 45min to 1 hour before bed and settles down for the night anywhere between 19:30 and 21:00 (depending on the last nap). If he ate last time anywhere around 18:45/19:00 he will be up at around 3 am and will want a feed. If he eats later for the last time before bed he will be up at around 4:30-5:00 am and feed. He takes a full bottle so doesn’t just comfort eat. I sometimes try to resettle before offering a feed if he isn’t crying but it doesn’t work. As soon as he is done with the feed he is back asleep for another 2.5/3 hours.

Apparently my paediatrician thinks that it’s time for this feed to be dropped. She said that we should aim to have all the calories needed during the day. She suggested to try and up his intake to 240 ml but he often doesn’t even fully finish 210 ml, so making more formula would just be wasteful and it’s not that I can just force it into my baby. He is thankfully growing well so I trust him to self regulate. I’m a bit worried if we are missing out on something or doing something wrong now….

Ear and cheek touching

My 6 month old LO seems to be touching his ears and cheeks very often. I don’t think it’s self soothing cause he is doing it at various moments during the day. Sometimes it’s to the extent that he get little scratches in his ears if his nails are grow even a little bit. I noticed it a few weeks ago and brought it up to pediatrician straight away. She checked his ears and said they are fine. She suggested it might be linked to teething or self discovery.
His two bottom teeth are out now and I’m not sure why would he be so “violently” discovering himself for weeks lol.
Anyone encountered something similar?

6 month old (nearly 7) grumpiest and unhappiest I ever remember

Is anyone else experiencing an extremely grumpy and unhappy baby??
Baby is constantly unhappy and as the primary caregiver for 99% of the time, I’m loosing my mind. Nothing makes him happy apart from going outside but we are in the middle of hot Italian summer, so we can’t be out the whole day. He doesn’t want his toys for more than 10 seconds , he doesn’t want to be on his back at all, he is also not happy when he is on his tummy, he doesn’t want to be held and immediately starts twisting out of my arms, hitting and pinching me, but if I put him down he screams bloody murder. His two bottom teeth are out and I don’t think any other are coming through at the moment. He is fed, he slept, he is cool and dressed appropriately and is physically fine, so I just don’t know what it is or how to deal with it!
We are leaving for vacation in a few days and although I think having something to do each day / somewhere to be will be a bit more helpful , but I’m dreading the 6 hour drive that awaits us 🥲🥲

Are we the only ones that are waking up anywhere between 30-40 minutes on the dot during daytime naps? Baby is 5 months and 2 weeks. If I could bet 10 dollars each time that he will wake up anywhere between 30 and 40 minutes I would be rich by now. Crib, stroller, contact whatever. 40 minutes max and he is awake

I gave birth to my LO 5 months ago. I am NOT breastfeeding since my milk didn’t come in. I had my cycle restart around 6 weeks post partum after which I had another regular period. Since then nothing…. And it’s been two months.

I have already checked multiple times and no second baby on the way.

I was just wondering if this restart of cycle and then such a pause normal? Happened to anyone?

Is it just us or are you also dealing with a constantly whining baby? He rarely escalates to full crying unless hungry or overstimulated but the constant whining and grunting the whole day long is starting to become harder and harder to tolerate 🥲
