Someone tried to open my letter containing a cheque, what to do?

I received two letters in my letterbox, one had been partially opened, clearly very deliberately - the left and right side of the flap had been lifted, with one side ripping into the front just enough to peek at the company logo on the page header - it looks like someone was trying to see who the letter was from. It was a letter from my car insurance containing a cheque (for a refund). The other letter was unopened and from a debt collection agency. It looks like they saw the insurers name and stopped opening the letter.

Who could have done this, and why? Who should I report this to? Is it more likely to be someone at the sorting office or a postie? I don't know anything about the stages of post delivery and who might have the opportunity and motivation to do something so illegal and risky. I'm pretty unsettled.

Getting to Orkney on a budget...

I am disabled and not able to work for the foreseeable future. I'm currently dependent on my partner's income. So holidays are now a rarity and on a tight budget. But Orkney is my bucket list destination. I feel such a deep sense of awe from seeing our ancient human history.

Last year, before I lost my job, I booked a flight to Inverness for this Spring as a surprise for my partner's birthday, to do the NC500. He's a biker but we got a van, because it was too cold to camp but too expensive to stay in B&Bs.

Life has been tough recently and I didn't have time to fully plan. But having done small ferry trips before (usually costing £10-30) I didn't think to check the prices for the Orkney ferry until we were in Lybster. A local told me to get the ferry from Gills bay, saying it would be half the price. Only then did I check the price of both ferries!

It was £250+ return with the van. I haven't taken a ferry with a van before so hadn't factored that in, but even the pedestrian fares seemed huge. I thought about doing a day trip and renting e-bikes, but I didn't want to rush it in a day, when I've been waiting a lifetime to go. Staying overnight at a B&B would push up the cost so that we may as well take the van. But we had to decide quickly, and I just couldn't justify dropping that much money without planning it properly first.

So, despite being so close I could taste it, we had to drive past. I'm heartbroken. We've sworn we'll go back and see Orkney properly. Possibly doing some other islands too (my partner is interested in the world's shortest flight...)

  • What would be your recommendations for travelling to and around Orkney on a budget?

  • Would a motorbike or e bikes and (responsible) camping be a good compromise on cost and travel?

  • Would flying to a local airport be better than driving from Inverness (we're from London)?

  • Are there any seasons you recommend or don't? (I want to visit in the spring to make sure the archaeological sites are open, and to get the most daylight hours, but my partner wants the chance to see the northern lights...)

I considered the island bus, but I like to take my own time to see sights, and to take unexpected detours, and not be held to a timetable. Any advice and ideas would be welcomed. Thank you 🫶

🎶 Sound engineers, music nerds, or anyone! 🎶 What differences have you noticed between the original and remastered Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge?

TLDR at the end for my ADHD loves

I'm uneducated about mixing/mastering/music tech, but Three Cheers is my FAVOURITE album. I've been listening to the old and new on repeat, trying to identify the differences. But I'm just not literate enough to hear much beyond some very obvious emphasis on specific vocals.

I would love to become more literate and be able to hear and appreciate the differences, and I want to understand why they're different, the reasons behind it - were these decisions for creative, commercial, or for practical reasons? Were the differences intentional or due to limitations of the time?

Really I just want to feel like I'm truly understanding and reading what's going on in both albums instead of just feeling it. Cos boy, I can feel it, but I really want to read it too.

Sidetracked by an analogy - feel free to skip:

It's a bit like wine tasting - I'm enjoying the wine of Three Cheers, but I want to taste the notes too. I want to understand how the climate affected the harvest, what influenced the choice of grape varieties (customer demand, brand image, or mad experimentation and creative freedom?), or how the technology of winemaking changed over those the 20 years, etc. I don't know if it's an appropriate analogy but it's the only way I can describe what I'm hoping to gain in the listening experience.

If there's anyone more literate than me who can share their MCR tasting knowledge with me, I'd be so grateful.

Open to everyone's opinion, so no imposter syndrome!

TLDR: Would love to hear from you all, what differences do you notice, and any speculations about the reasons for those differences?

Thank you to u/Ok_Honey_4766 and u/SammySterling813 for inspiring this post with their valuable contributions 🫶

Does the colour of the watch affect how big or small it appears on the wrist? I'm considering buying the Forerunner 265s and this is a factor in my colour choice, as I have small wrists.

I have very small wrists, and I'm thinking about choosing the black one, because I want it to blend into other outfits and not appear too sporty or loud, but I'm wondering if it will make the watch face look even bigger than if I chose the white or pink. I've never seen one in person and can't get to a shop. What's been your experiences of how colour affects the appearance on small wrists?

What caused this leaf to turn out like that?

I got this last year as a gift. The blooms died and I cut it back. This was the first leaf to regrow. It now has three other leaves which look fine, and it rebloomed this year although slightly smaller than when I first got it. It's been like this for many months, but I would like to know what caused it so I can prevent it, and whether I should cut it back again this year.

It accumulates bits of leaves, weeds poke through, and just random dirt and rubbish. I spilled a bit of compost when I was doing a planter. I can't sweep them, and I am not willing to individually dust each godforsaken stone and pluck each microscopic leaf that's blown in. How on earth does one keep this looking tidy? Should I just replace it with proper tiles?

▲ 4 r/ADHDmeds+1 crossposts

So I'm about to start my period and my meds feel like they have no effect on me during this time, so I tend to up my dose from 40mg elvanse to 60mg. It's been nearly 3 hours since I had my breakfast (when I usually take my meds) and I have no idea whether I took them or not.

I still feel drained, full from my big breakfast. Yesterday I went back to sleep after taking my meds, so feeling drained rn isn't really a clue. How can I tell if I took them today or not? What would/have you done in this situation?

There are things I need to do today so I really do need my meds to work. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. Unsure if I should take one or not.

I can't really afford to not take my meds today fwiw

Edit: I've been on these meds for almost 3 years

ETA: cannot drink caffeine if there's any risk I've had the meds, as it will literally keep me awake all night.

I am moving house tomorrow so the tasks today are non negotiable, so can't just chill out and accept it

I have pill dispensers but I lose them frequently. I'm not functioning well at the moment due to other mental health issues.

This is the first time this has happened in 3 years so it's not a common occurrence, but I really do need advice about ways to make the decision about medication today, without caffeine.

I hope I don't sound like I'm dismissing all suggestions, that's not my intention. Just giving context for the challenges I have right now and the gravity of my situation today. I appreciate the suggestions regardless. I am just a stupid mess of a human being right now.

Edit 3: I checked my Oura ring data and felt my pulse and it's slightly lower than I would expect 3 hours after taking the meds, so I'm gonna take a 40mg and see how it goes. If I feel nothing in 2 hours then I'll know I didn't take any this morning and I'll take another 20mg. Will update later.
