Should I give up on my hair?

Should I give up on my hair?

Can anyone help me on what should I do with my hair? It's been about a year since I stop getting it rebond and start embracing my waves. I'm getting disheartened because I feel like it's not looking how wavy hair should.

The photo about is what my hair currently looks like. The disaster it is. I still don't know what my hair type is. Though some have formed ringlets, some an S, some a J. I also have low porosity hair and I don't know what's a fine hair or something is.

My routine has been this. Shower-Put on leave in(luxe organic curl n define)-hair twist-mousse(then scrunch it with hands then towel)-gel (scrunch with towel/hand).

Please any advice is acceptable, anything to help me understand my hair better and to fix it. I just want to embrace my waves after years of being insecure about it.

Trying to figure out the routine thing

My mom is now thinking about hair stuff and is allowing me to pick out some products so I wanna make sure I know what to use and how to use it so it doesn't feel like a waste of a purchase. She also wants me to teach my sister who probably has 2 a or b hair, just slightly coarser than mine. Mine is pretty short and fluffy and she likes her's as long as possible. I'm not supposed to use oils right? So do I use a lighter gel? What's the consistency, if it's too rigid it'll probably not be liked by either of us.

There are some allergy restrictions so rather than whole products can you recommend what ingredients to keep and eye out for? Both too heavy for avoiding and good so try and look for products with it. I included a pic of someone I think that has achievable hair that's cute and also how my hair looks like drying. It remains wavy and a bit frizzy for a few hours or so before it straightens. As for my sister I think beachyish waves are obtainable. Right now she's a little irritated by it so no pics of hers. At the moment I don't use products other than 2 in 1 cerave hair soap, I am open to others but I'm still gonna finish the bottle by using it some washes. My hair runs oily so that's why I wrote twice a week rather than once a week like I've been seeing.

How many of you dont use conditioner?

My hair is 2a, medium thickness, and I don't use conditioner because it tends to get oily pretty quickly after two days without washing. I comb when wet after showering and it keeps it neat for a day and never gets frizzy. When I tried using conditioner, it would always make my hair too oily. Is there anyone else with similar hair?

Is root clipping worth it?

I’ve never tried it before and I’m wondering if it’s worth buying some clips so I can try it. My hair is fine, slightly thin, and so far I can get it to have a little wave at the roots but not much volume.

If you’ve tried it, do you like it? Any tips? Do you prefer the claw style clips or the duckbill kind?

I currently have some teeny tiny claw clips and some bigger ones but I don’t think either would work well for root clipping so I do t see a way to test it without buying anything.

Recently discovered wavy hair, rate my routine

Hi friends! In the past 6 months or so I realized my hair is definitely wavy, I had curly hair as a kid, but I guess it was revivified after taking birth control… who knew?!

I’ve trialed many different products but I’ve included what I use now, but I still feel like my waves could use some help. Particularly on the upper crown layer, which I tried to point out in a few photos. That area just feels so much drier and straighter compared to the under parts of my hair. Also is there any way I could make my bangs more wavy?

I was my hair every 3-5 days, and start by raking the kitsch curl cream through all of my hair, then scrunch the miellé defining mouse (about 4 pumps), followed by the eco gel (a quarter sized amount). It might be worth mentioning that I don’t section my hair at all, maybe that would help?

I also find that none of these products hold over night and I often find myself dampening my hair and adding a bit more mousse.

Any advice appreciated, regardless of whether it’s mentioned here or not 🩷 thank you in advance.

Is it illegal to brush your waves?

For me atleast, it's a lot easier to brush when my hair is dry, as opposed to wet. And it feels a lot nicer afterwards :)

The first pics are brushed out 2nd day hair, and the third is before (slept on hair).

I use a tangle teezer.

Thinking about cutting layers ? (A rant)

How about you shoot yourself in the foot first ?

See, I have fine wavy hair. 3 fucking years ago, I had that great idea of having layers cut into my hair.
I was thinking “well it might help my layers be more bouncy and give me a little bit of volume !”

3 years later here’s my review :

See this adorable hairstyle you’ve seen on TikTok ? Erase that from your memory immediately. Never on your hair. Unless you like having antennas sticking around your head like a weed field.

Oh, you wanna wear your hair straight for a change ? How about ratty ends and shelves and hair poking in stupid directions ? 🥰

Dachshund aren’t your favorite dogs ? Too bad, that’s how your hair look around your face whenever you wear it natural, sooo time to consider it !

God HELP YOU if you are neurodivergent and have sensitivity issues. Having some hair shorter than the rest is almost a guarantee to ALWAYS have hair in your eyes or touching your face.
Nooo you can’t tie them up, cause they’re
SHORTER THAN THE REST✨ and will look either like those palmito ponytail you see sometimes on Yorkshire dogs, either like the weedfield we’ve talked before !

Oh and it’s gonna take YEARS to grow them out ! Yeah ! I now have a bob AND bra-strap length! Dreamy !

I’m sorry, but if you’re considering layers, please think deep and long about it. I regret it SO MUCH. I want to grow my hair long but it looks HORRENDOUS.
I think I’m gonna have to cut a bob again and it’s seriously depressing. 3 years of efforts down the drain.

i don’t know what to do with this

this is freshly washed and air dried. my hair is pretty high density but incredibly fine, which just makes it unbelievably fluffy and frizzy. it’s also nearly dead straight underneath near my neck 🙃

when i’ve tried diffusing it becomes an absolute birds nest - instead of defined waves it just goes wonky and bent, and it does nothing to help the frizz.

i haven’t put any styling products in today, because i feel like no matter what i use it just makes my hair look greasy and dirty. i use L’Oreal glycolic gloss shampoo & dream lengths conditioner. every so often i’ll use pantene sheer volume shampoo as well.

pls help a gal, i just want to have shiny hair :-(

edit: i should also add that it tangles like nobody’s business, so i’m terrified of not brushing it lol

how can i fix the frizz on my waves?

i have been told by various different people that i have wavy hair as well as been told i that don’t. i think i can see i have a slight wave pattern and i’ve been tryin to bring it out.

i have been scrunching in not your mothers curl cream, mousse and gel after the shower on wet hair and partially diffused then let air dry and it looks okay but still pretty frizzy.

i’m wondering if anyone has any tips for dealing with frizz. i noticed it still looks frizzy even when wet i’m not sure what i can do to prevent this.

How do I get my hair not to look like simba ? Hair changes after HRT.

I’m new to this hair care routine my hair seems to have 3 different patterns. Some curly some wavy some straight. I have fine hair. It gets weighed down easily by shampoos and hair products. Unfortunately my scalp/skin is very reactive and sensitive.

Today I used a hard water shampoo for the first time and it feels soft. I only have a Moroccan oil leave in conditioner at the end, which seems to be a little heavy for my hair. My hair does respond well to living proof, smooth styling cream though and Moroccan oil if I don’t apply heat, it gets very frizzy. Any help is appreciated.

Best products for fine, thick hair?

My hair is 2a2b and gets so frizzy! My best results so far have been using a super hard hold gel (LA Looks extreme hold), raking, diffusing. I got less frizz but still not very much definition. By the end of the day, the waves had almost completely fallen out. Day 2 very little frizz but almost no wave left. I sprayed it with water mixed with a tiny bit of gel and that helped like 15%.

Im not using leave in conditioner or a mousse because i dont want to weigh down my super fine hair. Took forever to figure out how to get enough gel in my hair because it’s so thick! But I’m wondering if i need to try something else to get more definition or more longevity. Also, my hair is low porosity.

Any ideas? Thanks!

What products for loose wavy hair?

Hi all, I am in cosmo school and have been doing a lot of research and recently i think i found out I have wavy hair? I always would just brush it out the shower and then it dries straight but frizzy and odd💀

correct me if i’m wrong pls

In the photo provided I used the not your mother’s curl cream and gel and scrunched it. For one it dries crunchy and weird, and for two straight out the shower when I scrunch it the wave is very prominent but in the photos is when it started to dry and kind of lose the pattern. What products may help with that/ if not, am I pretending I have wavy hair lol i’m not sure any advice is helpful here!!

Fine, but lots of wavy, frizzy hair.

Day 3 of trying to embrace the waves instead of just smother them. I see improvement in my wave definition but it is still so FRIZZY and tangly.

Using Kerastase Gloss Absolu shampoo/conditioner. I comb my hair with a wide tooth comb while consitioning. I’m using Saltair leave in conditioner in the shower while hair is still very wet and topping it off with Kristin Ess Air Dry cream in the shower while hair is still very wet. I squeeze excess water out with a microfiber towel and air dry. I can see frizz forming on it as it’s drying.

I bought a satin pillowcase. I sleep in a braid. Help 😭I can handle the tangles. I cannot take the frizz. Sometimes when I look at myself in the mirror, I get a jumpscare from all the frizz poking out around my scalp, through my miss and all the way down to my ends.

Dealing with Extreme voluminous hair

My hair has always been naturally straight, but over the last 2–3 years, it has started becoming wavy, extremely voluminous, and very dry at the ends. What could be causing this, and how can I get my smooth, straight hair back? Has it ever happened either anyone😭

Frustrated and confused! Need advice.

Hi all!

I have always had wavy/curly hair since I was a little girl - but my mother never knew how to style it, so it was usually blown out. It’s heavily influenced by where I’m living (if I’m in DRY California with the hard water? Only a little wave will form vs on the east coast the curls are waaaaaay more pronounced).

I have never been able to use any kind of product. It always seems to weight my fine hair down and make it limp and stringy. I’ve tried mousse/curl cream, various sprays, etc. with basically no success. I always try to use a moisturize shampoo and use a mask frequently to help with the moister. I either do nothing to it but gently scrunch while it air dries or I have used a steamer to refresh - but again, no product! This seems/seemed to work on the east coast and certainly when my hair was redder.

I’ve included some photos: the redder hair is from like, covid years through 2023ish. I was pretty happy with my hair even though no products were being used! Felt it was bouncy, had some wave/curl definition and I liked it!

I’ve since gone blonde. And it’s … I just don’t know what to do with it. Is it all bleach damage? Is there nothing I can do but wait still it’s cut or grows out? Will more moisture work? Do I need protein? I dunno. It’s very fine hair and it’s super big at the moment with little definition.

Also - in addition to the hair color change, I have been on oral minoxidil for about two years (2.5 pill) — since starting, I now have about a 2 inch halo of new growth all over my head. This new growth is considerably curlier and it’s kind of funny.. I have this poufy halo of hair all over - but it does make it tricky to style.

I’d love to bring back some bouncy definition .. but maybe it’s a lost cause - or maybe I need to go back to having red hair? Any advice / suggestions are welcome, I’d love some help!!

Swavy?

Stick straight hair all my life. Now at 57, the new hairs are coming in curly/coily and the underside has waves. What is going on?

Seeking help for unruly hair

Hi!
I have very fine, thin and frizzy hair. I’ve always been insecure about my hair and at this point I’m just trying to make it as healthy as I can. If I don’t use heat on it, it looks so messy and frizzy but hate using heat because it is so fine and thin. I think I may have some wave? This is my hair air dried with no product in it. I’d love to grow it out but it always gets wispy and stringy looking (like you can see in the photos). If you have any suggestions on products or styling, I would be so grateful! I’d love to embrace my natural hair but I just can’t figure it out.

I don’t know how to make my waves look nice not like straw

This is them brushed out because I hate how they look without it, and I usually brush it out more than this.

Routine I guess: I shampoo twice, hair mask or conditioner, use a leave in conditioner, heat protectant, scrunch and usually air dry bc it gives me less straw than a diffuser.

My partner has super curly hair but doesn’t even do anything to get them to look nice so I just don’t know what to do and have no one else to ask. I’m tired of having to have to put excessive heat on my hair to make it look acceptable just to get a little sweaty and my waves mess it up, I’d rather just wear my hair natural

Styling my 2A waves for the first time

I have been struggling to style my hair in a way that would allow the natural wave to come through. After some reading I think I’ve determined that I have determined what I believe to be my wave type (2A). The top photo is my hair with no products or heat and only finger combed. The bottom photo is the result of the new routine.
To start, I used a clarifying shampoo (Herbal Essence tea tree but I do also have Garnier Fructis Pure shampoo for the other days) and ran my fingers through my hair after applying Maui hibiscus conditioner.
I gave my ends a quick squeeze with a micro fiber towel afterwards. While my hair was still quite wet I applied Aussie leave in conditioner and scrunched each side. I then used Aussie mousse (for straight/wavy hair) and prayer palmed it to each side followed by more scrunching.
Then I diffused my hair for an eternity- I don’t usually use heat so I kept it low and gave each section a cold blast before moving on) and finally scrunched one last time with a bit of jojoba oil.
I’m not sure how to sleep with the waves and I’m open to any advice you guys have!
