Hobsbawm- Age of extremes- help!
Hello, everybody.
I have read all the other “ age of” before. It was many years ago.
At university, we used many times some chapters or sections to understand the social and political context of certain time we were studyin.
Then, out of interest, i decided to real the whole 3 books. Agter that, i remember buying Zinn’s “ Peoples history”.
All were in spanish. Zinns book was quite better in rythm, in general.
Now, with way better english, and some more years on me, i decided to start reading about history and global politics again, to inform myself a bit more about the past and understand better our current times ( or try my best, at least)
Now, i do not want to become world expert in these subject, and im readind 40-50 pages of fiction of other books daily, so Hobsbawm is limited to maybe 7-10 pages a day.
The thing is, im felling a bit frustrated when it comes to follow a line on a subject.
I know i can just stop reading it, or read a passage 2 more times, or way more.
My questions are:
- any recomendations on how to get a better flow with this book? Notes, write on a paper?
I underline and make marks of some paragraphs maybe.
- does anyone here has the same issue with this style? Again, im bot aiming to become “ all knowing of geo politics” now, and i understand some points. I know im not stupid, tho sometimes i find myself reading a passage 3 times and thinking, what the hell is this guy talking about? The long sentences, parenthesis and commas, and jumping back and forth with the timelile and comments… maybe “ dense” is the word i should use here.
Again, i dont mind reading 5 or 6 or maybe 10 pages a day, but if you guys have any input, i would apreciate it.
