Moving back to Edmonton after 30 years

Hey all

After living in BC for 30 years I'm moving back.

Can you tell me what sites are used by employers to advertise positions?

Specifically food and beverage, general trades or class 3 driver type positions

Thanks

Why is Langford so divisive?

28 years off and on I've lived / worked in Langford.

The last 10 years the politics has become so I'm right / your wrong. And if you don't agree you're worthless.

There are things I liked and disliked about Stew's terms, and things I like and dislike about Scott's term.

I'd love to see a mayor that takes the best of both and moves forward..

But I find it hard to wade through all the rhetoric, mud slinging and out right disinformation.

We are not in the US where the biggest mud paddy wins.. If we do stoop to such levels we may as well swap the maple leaf for the stars and stripes.

Let's have proper polite discourse on the subject. We are Canadians after all

Want to schedule a hairstylist...twice

I'm looking for a hair dresser that can see me twice in a week or so..

I have approximately a 2' pony tail. Used to grow it out then get it cut for wigs..

Grey has started to creep in ... Let's be honest grey has blatantly taken over and my hair has become brittle. So wig places won't accept it anymore.

My kids have heard tales of my hey days, wearing a full blown upright multicolored mohawk..

So I'm thinking it's time to ditch the tail. BUT with at least a few days of full blown middle age crisis reliving of the rebellious glory days... Before becoming a square and fading away into the background masses with an age appropriate and respectable haircut.

I sat for competition level hair stylists back in the late 80's, early 90's so thinking a hair dresser interested in doing similar or even one that wants to pad out their portfolio with progressive shots of the different styles

Not looking for a freebee, I know this will cost more than a regular one time cut/style..considering the final style has to be planned prior to and incorporated into the "rebellious " cut. I'm fine with that

Any suggestions?

Bell can go F themselves

Until 3 years I had 6 cell phone lines with bell for about 12 years.

Everything worked great until it didn't.

One line suddenly wouldn't get incoming calls or sms messages. Took the phone to a bell store, they swapped the sim card into display phones and the issue would happen on the store phones. ( Store staff were great trying to help us)

Bell "tech support" kept saying it was a phone issue. Despite the store staff telling them otherwise. (That phone is being used on a different provider now and works flawlessly)

Told bell I would cancel all lines if they didn't fix the issue.

8 months this went on for.i liked bell and didn't want to switch but kept the threat up.. until they stopped taking out tech support calls.

So I cancelled all plans and switched carriers..

For that 8 months I paid for a service that I wasn't getting. At about $75/m plus fees and taxes

Now they have sent a collection agency after me for $140.. have no idea how they came up with that number. Monthly average bill was a great deal more than that.

I have disputed the claim with the agency

When I try to contact Bell re this collections claim and their failure to provide services that were paid for.. I get transfered to a supervisor, who transfers me to a supervisor who transfers me to a supervisor who transfers me to voice mail from which I get no response.

You would figure over a decade of being a loyal customer, they would attempt to figure out the issue. But no they lost a loyal customer and now are attacking my credit for their technical issue.

Could I pay this bill, yes. But that's not the issue. Why pay for services not rendered

This has been going on for 3 years and I'm not giving in

Another scammer... But I was too tired to really play.. see if they continue

Spent the day in divorce hearings, then had a major tire blow out on the highway home..

So I wasn't mentally prepared for another scammer.. but I did what I could..

If they bite.. I'll be more prepared and have a tonne of pent up energy to waste on them

Age of majority / consent question

My daughter is 18.5 yrs old. Has her head screwed on right. Probably more mature than I am

She has her first boyfriend and has discussed with me spending the night at his place.

My opinion is she's 18, I did a crap ton worse things at a much younger age. So why would I be a hypocrite

My ex wife (who has been dragging out the separation talks) and who my daughter lives with. Is saying by either Canadian or BC law she needs permission from both parents to spend the night at her boyfriends place.

I've never heard of such a thing for an 18 yr old. Is it a real thing?

I highly suspect she's just hedging bets on child support.

Thoughts?

Can flour be bad straight from the store?

I've been baking my own bread for a few years now.

Usually 2 Pullman loaves a week

This week I've had to remake my bread 3x.

It keeps turning out very wet and gummy. I use a temp probe to test it, 205-210°F for the 1st 2 batches and took the 3rd batch to 230°F - still gummy but not as bad

I checked my probes calibration, it's dead accurate in both ice and boiling water

Made a Mornay sauce last night and it didn't thicken as expected.

Only thing I can think of is it's a new 50lb bag of flour. Though it was purchased from a restaurant supplier, so presumably there's high stock turnover.

Semolina help

I've been making simple egg and flour or water and flour pasta for years.. never an issue.

Recently I tried adding semolina

Everytime I do add it, the pasta tears while shaping.

Dough ball is smooth and strong. But as soon as I try to roll it it tears badly.

I've tried 20%, 50% and 100% semolina trying to find what works.

Any insight would be appreciated

Best authentic Korean food in town

Its been 30ish years since I've had Korean food and have been craving it since I started planning a family vacation

Where in town can I find the most authentic Korean food to give the kids a sample beforehand.

Or better yet, any recommendations for an authentic cookbook (in English) and best places to source specific ingredients
