Merci beaucoup!

What is the difference between butter, ghee, clarified butter, fermented butter and brown butter?

Difficult to tell online because it seems the term "ghee" is used very loosely, some say it is clarified butter, other that it is brown butter (beurre noisette), other that is has to be fermented.

If you know, can you explain the difference and perhaps give tips on how you make the perfect ghee?

Thank you!

ETA : I live in the EU. I usually buy churned AOP butter so it is high-fat low-water!

Merci!!

Buying a wireless vacuum for the first time, any recommendations?

(EU purchase)

Me and my partner are looking into wireless vacuums, but we would like to ask actual unbiased customers about their experiences and how to compare between models.

I know everyone talks about the Dyson ones, but I have also seen people said they are overrated and overpriced, is that true?

Which model would you recommend? We would like to look for a very good quality wireless vacuum, easy to use and not to heavy as I lack body strength and will have to take it up and down stairs.

Thank you all very much !

Edit for more information:

- We have wooden stairs
- Otherwise it is white/beige tiling floors (south of europe)
- I mop after vacuuming every fortnight or so
- We don't have a fixed budget but 600€ Dyson would be a hefty sum, so under is better
- Amazon or online purchase is best (we live far from everything)

Why am I still "Your account is too new and/or inactive."?

Hello,

I have been reading random reddit posts for a while now but only made an account semi-recently as I really wanted to participate in communities and comment, ask questions, etc.

Currently, here are my stats:

\- Account age 3 months

\- 115 contributions, specifically 17 posts and 98 comments

\- 149 karma points (108 of which are comments)

\- Active in 39 subs

\- No followers or gold

I have tried many times to post on certain subreddits I am interested in, but I keep getting Auto Mod messages that my comments are being removed because "Your account is too new and/or inactive.", which confuses me. I understand why this rule exists (farming, trolls, etc.), I only want to know what is the threshold for being able to comment actively.

I have tried to look up rules on one particular subreddit where my comments are removed every time, and maybe I am not looking in the right place but I cannot find what the minimum limit is, if I have to agree to terms and conditions, etc.

I am sorry if this seems obvious, I am just very confused!

Thank you all for the help!

I am getting back into fantasy, what should I read next?

Hi all,

After my long modern classics and dark academia phase, I am wishing to back more into fantasy. Specifically, I have fallen down yet again into my A Song of Ice and Fire lore obsession, and I want to find other similar reads for new obsessions.

What I like most are very well though out worlds, with a lot of lore. I love genealogy, history, politics, and anthropology. It does not have to have a hard or soft magic system, both are interesting to me as long as the world building is sufficient. I also adore morally grey characters that feel "real" enough and not too cliché.

So, what book/book series are you recommending me? I have heard good things about Robin Hobb, but I am keen to know where you'd suggest I'd start!

(Note : I am 26, so don't worry about NSFW or hard themes. I'd rather not just read smut though.)

Thank you!

I don't wear clothes from my own cultures because I am afraid people will think I am appropriating

I am mixed, half asian on my mother's side and my father is also mixed (half caucasian, half amazigh).

I do own some clothing and jewelry from
my cultures. I grew up with them. I speak the languages. I was born and partially raised in Asia They were mostly gifted to me (a lot of heirlooms, especially from
grandparents) and some I bought myself when visiting family abroad. They do mean a lot to me.

However, I know what I look like physically. Most people think I look mixed and cannot pinpoint what ethnicity, and some even think I'm just white or at the very least very white passing. I don't think so personally, but have been told enough time that I cannot argue with the possibility of that.

Asian culture especially have been very "trendy" (for lack of a better word) recently amongst young people. Maybe I am a bit too self conscious because I have been relentlessly othered and bullied as a kid everywhere I go because I always looked "different". I was always the stranger, in every country.

A few years back I wore a top and some jewelry my asian grandmother and my father gifted me to university. Some classmates side-eyed me pretty hard, and one girl I did not know that well came up to me to say that "cultural
appropriation is bad". I explained I was litterally from those cultures. She did not believe me straight away so I explained the same thing again in my native language. She looked stunned. An international student who shares the same native language stepped in and said "Yeah, that's the accent from (the region where I was born)". She let it go and appologized but I felt so self-conscious afterwards.

I guess I'm a bit envious of people who "look the part" to wear their native clothes, but also of people not from the culture but can wear the clothes as appreciation. I'm a little hurt that I feel
like I have to "defend myself" when I am litteraly wearing a dress my grandmother made FOR ME.

I was wondering if other mixed or ethinically ambiguous people out there felt the same and what I should do about that?

Edit : I am using the word "caucasian" as in white european person, my paternal grandfather is not from the region Caucasus. I am sorry for any misunderstanding!

Hello!

I'm 25F and my sister's birthday is coming up next month. She turns 24.

For the occasion I have a 50-60€ budget for gifts, and one of my ideas is a pair of silver earrings (or more if budget friendly option).

She likes alternative fashion, think punk rock/y2k revival, her clothes both vintage and destroyed. Honestly she dresses like a Nana character (if you know the manga). She likes silver jewelry, and loves earrings.

I am looking for brands with this type of style, similar to Minga London or Justine Clenquet for reference.

Any recommendations?
