Is Market Weighton a pleasant place to live?

Looking at buying a house here. We’d like to move to a surrounding area to York, and we will be driving to York for work twice a week. Looking for somewhere peaceful with a few pretty woods etc. nearby for walking our dog. TIA

Did I pick the best dress?

The first dress is the one I’ve put a transferrable deposit on. The second dress is another one I tried on — note that you could see the underskirt through the bodice when I tried it on but this would be tailored if I bought it.

Venue is a country house in the Lake District, and we’re eloping!

Please let me know which you prefer AND why — thanks in advance! 🤍

Alternate and Cover Sickness

I have a question about alternate and cover sickness.

In a show where the lead principal plays the role 7 shows a week and an alternate does 1 show a week, and there is a 2nd cover too…

If the alternate and 2nd cover are both sick, would:

• The principal play the role, even though it’s their off show,
• An emergency cover from the cast play the role,
• The show be cancelled, or
• Something else?

Any explanation as to how all this works would be really appreciated! TIA!

Adding a middle name — spelling?

I don’t have a middle name and am adding one when I get married. My fiancé’s middle name is Matthew and I like the idea of mine matching a little. I’ve chosen Mathilde.

I like this spelling a lot and find it so pretty and have started using it in place of my maiden name online and in emails etc. but I’m experiencing a lot of people struggling to pronounce it. It should be pronounced just like Matilda.

However, I find Matilda too truncated and Roald Dahl-esque and Mathilda just looks wrong, I think because I’m used to preferring the Mathilde spelling. I also like the vowel mirroring of mAtthEw and mAthildE.

Should I stick with the spelling I like, especially because it’s a middle name and I’ll just be using my surname when we’re married? Or go with something logistically easier but less pleasing?

If it’s relevant, we’re both changing to a portmanteau surname that combines both of our existing surnames and a little nod to my fiancé’s grandfather’s name, because he’s just so special!

Planning my wedding during PGT exam season?

I accept that the title alone sounds ridiculous, but hear me out! I would like some advice choosing the date of my wedding to fit around my degree.

I’m starting a part-time postgraduate taught course in September 2026; it’ll be one seminar a week, one optional module a semester (with dissertation from the summer semester of year 1 to the end of year 2). It’s an English Literary Studies degree so no exams, just coursework.

My final teaching week of the second semester of my first year will be WB 3rd May. There’s then a week of off-campus studying WB 10th May and then three weeks of on-campus studying from 17th May to 4th June, which is the end of the exam period (and when I expect my coursework will be due for that semester’s module.)

My partner and I got engaged in May 2025 and I have my heart set on a spring wedding. We really don’t want a long engagement; this will already be 2 years and we’ve been together for 11 years now.

Other important points are that we are eloping, so it’s just the two of us and a two night stay in the Lake District. It’ll be a very relaxed couple of days and also a laid back wedding planning period as there are not many decisions to make!

I’m currently thinking of choosing Monday 10th May 2027, which is the Monday of the week of off-campus studying. In total, I’d be taking one day to pack my suitcase etc, three days for the wedding trip, and one day after we’re home to reset. So 5 days out for the wedding, and back to studying on 13th May, giving me 23 days until the coursework deadline.

Does this sound realistic? Would another week make more sense? Is May a bad idea altogether? Please advise!
