Admin tool access?

I have been running an xb7 for awhile now. I tried to login to the admin page 10.0.0.1 and it says access is no longer allowed and that I have to enable it through the app.

The app doesn’t show my hardware. Do I have to reactively the modem through the app?

Years ago when I got my modem it was not locked out and I was able to go into the admin screen whenever I wanted.

How strict are you with omad?

I just finished my second week, starting my third week. Have company in town and as usual, life revolves around food. I’m thinking I’ll have to break my streak to partake in a luncheon or something soon. My usual schedule has been just one dinner meal.

Came home from vacation to a drive that dismounted on my DS1817+

I came home from a 2wk vacation to find my nas beeping. When I walked over I saw drive 2 light had turned off. I logged into DSM and drive 2 was no longer in the pool and the array was degraded. I reseated the drive and it came right back up.

Are backplane failures common with these units? I've never heard of this before. I'm currently running an extended test on the drive to see if there are any issues. What else should I check?

I don't want to just run out and buy another drive since they're stupid expensive right now but I will if I need to. I do have backups of my important items both off-site and on an external drive.

Intermittent fasting information in Chinese

Does anyone have any recommendations for information that is in Chinese. It can be in text or video format. I’m trying to explain the benefits to my parents but they just don’t get it. They think I’m going to die by not eating for 20hrs. They insist that I need to eat throughout the day 😔 to stay healthy.

I’m day 2 into my omad.

I started my journey

Last week while on vacation visiting friends, I heard a number of them were all doing this one meal a day thing. Honestly I didn’t know much about it other. I started looking into it and asked Gemini about it a bit and I’m convinced enough to give it a try.

I’ve struggled with weight my whole life. I was thin as a kid but during middle school i started gaining weight and was overweight through college. In my late 20s I started cycling with a local group and lost a lot of weight. I enjoyed being thin for about 10yrs. I got married and had kids and I’m back to my college weight, maybe more. 😔 I know all of it is due to poor diet and a lack of physical activity. I want to be there for my kids and be able to enjoy life as I age so I’m going to give this a try.

Over the weekend I started my journey with the 16hr fast and 8hr eating window. Honestly it wasn’t too bad. I basically skipped breakfast and ate normally from 12-8pm. Today I’m starting my 20/4 and I think this will be the most realistic plan I can sustain because our family activities revolve around food.

Unfortunately I didn’t weigh myself or take pictures but I’ll do that tonight to give myself a starting reference point.

Is the heat going to kill my van?

I’m drove my odyssey to TX this summer from the Midwest and the temps are crazy down here. The van already had mediocre ac so this heat def doesn’t help, the interior struggles to cool. The fans outside never stops. I can hear it whirring in the cabin.

The temp gage remains stable but man I feel like this heat is really stress testing my van. Add to that the sun is baking the shit out of my dash. It’s brutal. I think I’d take the cold winters any day over this heat.

Do you charge a new battery?

I picked up an AGM battery from Costco last night to replace my 8.5yr old oem flooded battery. When I got home the engine bay was hot and my garage was hot so I threw the battery on my ctek while I waited for things to cool down a bit. To my surprise it took close to an hour to report “full” on my ctek. Unfortunately I didn’t not have my meter so I don’t know what the start and end voltage was. Is it normal for a new AGM battery to not be fully charged?

Edit: everyone is saying the battery could be old but I grabbed one that had a 7/26 sticker on it 🤷‍♂️

Cleaning instructions

I just bought a bunch of clothes in Japan and now that I’m home and starting to wear them I noticed all the care tags say wash with like colors, wash cold, hang dry.

It looks like they put the same care tag on everything. Are the fabrics really that particular? I did notice in our Tokyo apartment that there was only a washer and no dryer so maybe that’s why, they’re just used to air drying everything?

Is it wrong to return dog poop to its rightful owner?

I unfortunately live on the sidewalk side of the street and I regularly have dogs that poop in my front yard. I have cameras in the front of my house and I usually see who the offender is and sometimes the owner knows and ignores it and sometimes the owner doesn’t know because the dog was off leash and ran ahead or stayed behind the owner.

Yesterday as I was picking up someone’s poop (I’m not a dog owner so it’s never ours) and I was thinking that maybe I should just leave it on their doorstep and let them deal with it. I have video proof so what’s wrong about returning their property to them?

It’s so refreshing

I just got done with Korea and I’m now in Japan. The prices you see are the prices you pay. No bs service fees, tips, living wage adjustments, etc. now there is a 10% tax but is known upfront m no surprises.

I really hope this stays and maybe I can just retire to this part of the world that isn’t constantly charging stupid fees.

Alphard 😍

In Japan this week and got a taxi ride in an alphard. Omg. The 2nd row seats are incredible. Even my kids comment how nice the van was and they don’t care about cars at all. Why is Toyota holding out on the us. The design is so bold in Japan while the Sienna looks like 🤮 common Toyota!

Seoul is so well connected

In Korea right now, first time here. I’m just amazed at how well connected the city is. There’s almost free wifi everywhere. Free WiFi on public transit and free wifi at almost every establishment. I would wager WiFi is easier to find than a public trash can or toilet.

For anyone reading this for trip planning, you definitely still do need an eSIM because you’ll need a connection as you’re moving around too but you can do a lot of looking up while you’re taking a coffee break or stopping for a meal or riding the bus to the next place of interest.

Well done Korea 👏

I've been dealing with this problem for sometime now.

During the pandemic I was full time WFH and was able to use teams quite easily, sharing content, presenting with cam on, etc. But at some point I stopped being able to share content through my home network as I started working in a more hybrid mode. When I try to share content the people on the other side either say nothing is showing up or they only see a black screen and nothing else.

I suspect it is something with my router settings but I do not know what. Why I suspect this is because it will work perfectly fine when I connect to my phone's hotspot.

Googling this topic hasn't lead to much. I found something about high resolution desktops causing problems but I have no problems when using the hotspot at home.

The setup at home:

UXG-Fiber > 24port poe > work laptop (VPN)

The setup that I shift to when I need to share:

Iphone hotpsot > work laptop (VPN)

Honda mower with blade stop. I just took it out of hibernation and had a brain fart as I went to take the blades off and I loosened the center bolt instead of the two side ones. The whole block came off, behind it was a wavy spring.

Anyways I kinda crammed it all back together and zipped the center bolt back on with my gun too tight. It kept spinning and I didn’t realize it was connected to the engine shaft so that’s why I zipped it on tight.

Now I can’t loosen it because when I try, the engine just spins. Is there a way to hold the engine to loosen the bolt so I can retorque it properly?
