What a unique experience to find these guys on the flats and sight fish for them. I got 4 of the biggest grunts I’ve ever seen and spooked a bunch of hogfish, but finally landed the last one just before we called it a day. 19”…It pulled line (16” is the minimum size). These flats also hold some of the biggest parrot fish that I have seen in the Atlantic. What a great day.

1/8 chartreuse Hook-up jig, Shimano 3000, 8lb braid, on the rising tide. Surprisingly easy to spook them.

I have carbon Moana’s (my fav), Mares Avanti Quattro (awesome but heavy) and old Gara 3000 fins (great foot pockets)

Just for ease of travel, beater fins for tidal pools and snorkeling w the kids… am I crazy to cut my Cressi’s shorter to fit in my suitcase? Maybe 8” shorter.

Hi. GenX white guy here (FL & NY). I’m writing a book and discussing character development w my neighbor/friend (she’s 48, black from NY & GA, We get along great, we take turns watching kids, shared dinners etc) I want to avoid certain stereotypes and I tried to convey it by saying “I want to avoid the trap of having a ‘magical negro’ character. I’m not writing a part for Morgan Freeman”

Did I go too far? Is that an acceptable and relatable term or did I cross a line?

I’m 55 and my 80yr old dad recently told me that he was violently raped by Demons during a meditation retreat when he was approx 35-40.

I suspect that his foster dad was a predator. Even my dad thinks so, but claims foster dad never touched my dad.

My dad was a commando in Vietnam and involved in Santeria while a teen in Cuba.

I suspect he was raped or molested; possibly in Cuba or Vietnam, but I don’t believe the demon-meditation story. He’s become a Born Again Christian after I left home as a teen: I can understand repressed memories .

Why would my old dad say this now and what do I do w the info? How is a son supposed to respond. Baffling

CMV The people who attack social programs, (public education, unions, libraries, school lunches, public healthcare, etc) falsely claim it’s a “slippery slope” to Communism; but communism requires the “overthrow of the bourgeoisie," which implies a sudden & violent, break from the previous system.

CMV: Social programs prevent revolutions. There’s no reason for the population to revolt if their needs are taken care of. USSR, Cuba, Laos, Vietnam, China… All of these communist countries were born from revolution.

If you hate Castro, blame Batista, the mafia & American corporations for creating the conditions for a middle class revolution. Hate the Bolsheviks? Blame the Czars.

The Cuban, Russian and Iranian revolutions could’ve been avoided if the elites and government provided socialist programs to keep their populations happy

Ugh. What a fire in my belly!

Just found out a childhood friend was molested by a creep. the church tasked this guy w taking us on canoe & field trips. I never trusted that guy so I’m not surprised. But, I’m angry at the church. The pastor was also a creep (domestic abuser & hookers). This was 40 years ago and the abuser has passed away.

Small community. How do I “report” this to families & the church? How do I gently encourage others to speak up?
