Any trick to negotiate price?

Any trick to negotiate price?

Got this August quotation from one of Chennai showrooms. I want to take the 8 year warranty but feel its too pricy as accessories will add another 5-8k on top of this. Should I get quotations from other river showrooms or how to negotiate? Can I get insurance from outside or it's mandatory to take from them? They told EMI offer is there for HDFC and some bank but I do not want to go with emi as again interest would be too much. My FD is maturing so planning to use it and buy with full cash.

And lastly, which accessories are must buy for the scooter?

INDmoney US stock account taxation

I opened a US stock investment account through INDmoney as an Indian resident last year. I receive small dividend payments from my US stocks, usually around $1.50 per quarter.

The dividend is credited directly to my INDmoney US stock account. I haven't withdrawn or transferred the money to my Indian bank account.

I'm trying to understand how this works from an Indian income-tax/ITR perspective:

  1. Is the US dividend taxable in India even though the money remains in my INDmoney US account and hasn't been withdrawn to my Indian bank account?

  2. Do I need to report these dividends in my ITR?

  3. How is the US tax deducted/withholding handled, and can I claim credit for the US tax paid while filing my Indian ITR?

  4. Since I recently opened the account and the dividend amount is very small (around $1.50 per quarter), are there any additional reporting requirements for the US stocks/account, such as Schedule FA or FSI?

  5. Is there anything specific I need to maintain from INDmoney (dividend statements, withholding tax details, etc.) for ITR filing?

I'm not trying to avoid tax; I just want to understand the correct reporting process since this is my first year holding US stocks.

Thanks!

Prove me wrong

I've been seeing quite a few posts recently about people withdrawing their EPF. I'm not saying everyone who withdraws EPF is doing it to invest in equity—there can be many perfectly valid reasons, especially emergencies, financial needs, loans, etc.

I'm specifically talking about people who have enough liquidity and are considering withdrawing their EPF specifically to invest the money in mutual funds/equity.

I'd genuinely like someone to prove me wrong if my thinking is flawed.

Personally, I still think EPF is one of the best instruments for long-term retirement money.

EPF is currently earning around 8.25%, with relatively predictable returns, compounding and favourable tax treatment, subject to the applicable rules.

Now, if I take the same money and put it into an index fund or equity mutual fund, the potential return may be higher over the long term. But the returns aren't steady.

It could be:

10% one year

20% the next

0% for a couple of years

or even negative returns during a market crash

Over 15–20 years, equity could certainly outperform EPF. But the outcome depends on market conditions, valuations and, importantly, what happens when you actually need the money.

With EPF, I don't need to worry about whether the market is at an all-time high or whether I'm investing just before a crash. I can leave it untouched and allow it to compound.

So if someone already has an emergency fund and is already investing in equity/MFs, why would it make sense to withdraw EPF and put that additional money into equity?

Why not simply treat EPF as the stable/debt component of the retirement portfolio and use mutual funds for the equity/growth component?

One thing I find interesting

EPFO has been making EPF withdrawals increasingly easier, including liberalising partial withdrawals and simplifying the claim process.

At the same time, NPS is being promoted as a market-linked retirement product with significant tax incentives.

I'm not saying this is a conspiracy or that the government is deliberately trying to push people out of EPF. There may be very legitimate reasons for these changes—liquidity, flexibility, financial inclusion, increasing retirement participation, encouraging long-term investment, etc.

But it does make me wonder:

Are we potentially making it too easy for people to consume/withdraw retirement savings that could otherwise compound for decades?

And if someone voluntarily takes money out of an 8.25% relatively stable, tax-advantaged retirement instrument and moves it into equity, are they actually improving their financial position—or simply taking on more risk in search of higher returns?

So please prove me wrong

I'm specifically asking people who believe "withdraw EPF and invest it elsewhere" is financially superior when there is no immediate financial need.

Over a 15–20+ year period, is the expected additional equity return worth giving up EPF's stability and tax advantages?

If someone already has substantial equity exposure through SIPs/MFs, why increase equity exposure further by withdrawing EPF?

Are there situations where withdrawing EPF purely for investment purposes is objectively the better decision?

Am I overestimating the value of 8.25% tax-advantaged compounding?

Is there a strong mathematical argument for moving EPF into an index fund rather than keeping both as separate parts of the portfolio?

I'm genuinely open to being corrected.

Please don't just say "equity gives higher returns." I'd be more interested in historical data, CAGR comparisons, taxation and risk-adjusted returns.

What am I missing?

New or old regime beneficial?

Hi CAs,

I'm trying to decide whether to opt for the old tax regime or continue with the new regime for FY 2026–27. I'd appreciate your advice.

My details:

Salary income: ~₹45 lakh (including shift allowances and annual bonus)

Basic salary: ~₹13 lakh

80C is already fully utilized through mandatory PF contribution

80D:

₹25,000 (self)

₹50,000 (senior citizen parents)

Employer NPS contribution: 10% of basic = ₹1,56,000

Children's school fees: ₹52,000/year

Meal card: ₹5,000/month (₹60,000/year)

Home loan taken in 2025:

Interest paid: ~₹2.5 lakh/year

Principal repaid: ~₹4 lakh/year

My questions:

Other salary income won't go beyond 50k. Ltcg might be under 1L too.

Which regime is likely to be more beneficial in my case—old or new?

Can I claim both HRA and home loan interest if the house is in the same metro city where I work? If yes, under what conditions would that be allowed?

Apart from the deductions mentioned above, are there any other deductions/exemptions under the old regime that I should explore to make it more beneficial than the new regime?

MAB charges without intimation

Hi, I have an account with Ujjivan bank and I was deducted some amount as I didn't maintain the minimum balance for the previous month. I was unaware of it or else I would have added the missing balance amount if I was notified prior to deduction. It's 295rs which was deducted and is there a way I can get this refunded? I tried reaching out to customer care email and even my RL who were completely useless in getting my refund.

Shops or stores to buy fresh fruits and veggies around Pallikaranai at reasonable cost other than Jayachandran

Looking for some suggestions from people around Pallikaranai, Madipakkam.

Can anyone recommend places to buy fresh fruits and vegetables at reasonable prices, other than Jayachandran?

The items and prices at Jayachandran are good, but it gets extremely crowded on weekends. My wife and I both work, so weekdays aren't an option for us. Every weekend she end up spending almost half a day there just buying fruits and vegetables, and the long billing queues make it even more time-consuming. I recommended local shops but she is too convinced only Jayachandran is cheap and best. 🥺

We're looking for places with:

  1. Fresh fruits and vegetables

  2. Affordable prices

  3. Less crowded on weekends

Would really appreciate your recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Guidewire digital openings

Hello,

I have around 10 years of overall IT experience, including 5 years as a Guidewire Digital Developer, worked on xEngage applications, custom portals, and JDP microfrontends. I'm currently with a Big 4 firm and am interested in exploring opportunities at Guidewire, particularly in the Bangalore office or remote roles.

My experience with PolicyCenter configuration is limited. Would that be sufficient to be considered for a role at Guidewire? How challenging is the interview process, what are the typical expectations, and what areas should I focus on to prepare? I'd appreciate any advice from those who have made a similar transition.

Thanks!

Salary account suggestions

Hi everyone,

I recently switched jobs, and my monthly salary is now around ₹2 lakh. I currently have an HDFC salary account(Preferred banking), but I haven't found the benefits particularly compelling, so I'm considering moving my salary account to another bank.

For someone in this salary range, which banks offer the best premium banking experience, benefits, rewards, customer service, or other valuable perks?

I'd appreciate recommendations based on your personal experience, along with any pros and cons you've encountered.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Pf delink termination record

Hi,

A few years ago, I accepted an offer from a company but ultimately did not join. Unfortunately, I also failed to formally inform them that I would not be joining. After about a month of no communication from my side, the company issued a termination letter citing non-joining/no-show.

However, they had already created a PF account for me and appear to have reported one month of employment, which now overlaps with my actual employment at another company during the same period. At the time, I was unaware that this could create complications in the future.

Later, when transferring my old PF balance to my current employer's PF account, I also transferred the PF amount associated with this one-month record because the portal was not allowing me to proceed otherwise.

Is there any way to have this employment record removed or delinked from my service history, considering I never actually joined or worked for the company? Has anyone faced a similar situation, and what would be the appropriate process to correct this?

I raised a delink request and my current status is Pending at employer. However I don't have any contact with my employer to reach out for this. How to get this moving?

Offer letter

Here's a polished forum post you can use:

Hello everyone,

I recently received and accepted an offer from EY GDS for a Project Manager role. I have not yet submitted my EIS and BGV documents because I am waiting for my resignation to be formally accepted by my current employer before proceeding further.

Given the current macroeconomic environment and hiring trends across the industry, I have a few concerns and would appreciate insights from current employees or recent joiners.

- How common is it for EY GDS to delay joining dates after an offer has been accepted?

- Has anyone experienced their joining date being pushed out significantly due to business or project-related reasons?

- Has anyone seen offers being withdrawn after acceptance, especially for experienced hires with relatively higher compensation packages?

- At what stage can a candidate generally consider the offer reasonably secure—after offer acceptance, after BGV completion, or only after joining?

I understand that every case is different, but hearing about recent experiences would help me assess the situation better before I formally resign from my current organization.

Thank you in advance for your inputs.

ITR filing with new property purchase

Need guidance on ITR filing for a jointly purchased resale flat.

My wife and I purchased a resale flat for ₹60 lakh during FY 2025-26. The property is jointly registered in both our names, and we have taken a joint home loan of ₹40 lakh, with both of us as co-borrowers.

Some additional details:

- Both of us are salaried employees.

- My annual salary income is around ₹28 lakh.

- My wife's annual salary income is around ₹11 lakh.

- Both of us have opted for the New Tax Regime.

- Out of the property cost, ₹10 lakh was received by me as a gift from my father and used towards the purchase.

My questions are:

  1. Do we need to disclose the property purchase anywhere in our respective ITRs?

  2. Since we are under the New Tax Regime, do we need to report the joint home loan in the ITR even if no home loan tax benefits are being claimed?

  3. Does the ₹10 lakh gift received from my father need to be reported in my ITR, and if yes, where?

  4. Are there any additional compliance or reporting requirements for a jointly owned property and joint home loan that we should be aware of?

Appreciate any guidance from tax professionals or anyone who has handled a similar situation.
