Altering long coat to fit pear shape

I’m not sure if this is the right place for this question, but any opinions are appreciated.

I have narrow shoulders and wider hips, and trying to find a long wool coat that fits off the rack is very difficult. If it fits the shoulders, it’s tight around the hips, and if it fits the hips, it’s too big in the shoulders. I’ve read that shoulder alterations are the most difficult/expensive, so it’s best to buy what fits your shoulders and alter the rest. How does this work when the bottom needs to be let out though? I feel like there’s not enough fabric for that to be possible.

Does anyone know if this is something that can be done?

How is resident street parking in Mid-Cambridge?

Specifically on the streets by the Cambridge Public Library. I’ve read some older threads saying street parking in Cambridge varies by neighborhood. It looks pretty full any time I’m in this area but figured I’d get some opinions.

Thanks!

Avoiding shelf effect with long layers

I hate to use someone’s picture as an example of what I don’t want, but half the time I get layers, I end up with a shelf effect like shown above. The short layer then puffs up, and the bottom layer looks like a tail hanging down. It’s like a bob on top of long hair. I end up cutting it up to the short layer so that it’s manageable again.

Is this a specific type of layering? Is there a specific type of layering I can ask for to avoid this? Would saying something like, “I want subtle face framing in the front but please keep the layers on the sides and in the back to the bottom inch or two” help me avoid this?

I have an average amount of fine, wavy/curly hair that’s fairly long. I need some layers to avoid the Christmas tree effect, but I dread ending up with this haircut again.

Thanks for any tips!

Korean/Japanese Sunscreen and Pale Skin

Has anyone in this group tried Korean or Japanese sunscreen? If so, have you found it strong enough to actually protect your face from tanning or burning?

I’m very fair, have oily skin, and have been trying to find a good sunscreen to wear under makeup for years. I love the texture of some of the Asian sunscreens, how they sit under makeup, and how they don’t burn my eyes, but I still seem to burn when I wear them. I’m wondering if they’re just not strong enough for really pale skin.

Any experiences would be interesting to hear! Also, if you have a rec for a matte sunscreen that wears well under makeup and protects well, I’d be interested in that too. Thanks!

EDIT: This is such a nice community. Thank you everyone for the replies and recommendations!

7 train after a concert at Citi Field

This feels like a dumb question, but I’m asking anyway. I’m coming from out of town in a few months to see a concert at Citi Field. I’ll be taking the 7 back towards Manhattan after the concert, probably around 11pm. Will there be a ton of people doing the same thing?

I’ve taken the subway many times but never late at night. I’m assuming there will be a big concert crowd on the train with me which makes me feel more comfortable, but I wanted to confirm with some locals.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Thank you everyone for confirming! I appreciate it, and it’s nice to know what to expect.

Neighborhoods convenient to Citi Field

I’ve been researching this on my own but thought some local input might be helpful.

I have tickets to a concert at Citi Field on July 19th, and I’m coming in from out of state. This is unfortunately the same day as the World Cup final, so rooms in NYC are much more expensive than usual for a Sunday night. I’m looking towards Long Island in hopes of finding a decent room for a decent price. Does anyone have recommendations of towns or neighborhoods that are easy to get to from Citi Field on public transit?

I’m seeing two hotels near the LIRR in Great Neck, but the reviews aren’t great. Any input is appreciated!

Igora Vibrance Question

Does anyone have experience with Igora Vibrance demipermanent hair color? I have light ash brown hair and am using Igora vibrance to blend some grays but was hoping to match my natural color otherwise. I’ve been using a mixture of 8-11 and 7-1 with 6 volume developer. The level seems right, but for some reason my hair is turning reddish. Does anyone know why this would happen and what I can do to keep my hair neutral/ashy? These are both ash colors.

[Product request] Primer similar to Missha Soft Finish Sun Milk

I have oily skin and love how Missha Soft Finish Sun Milk makes my foundation look. The slight pink tone seems to brighten my face up, and the formula helps my foundation not sink into my wrinkles and pores or slide off throughout the day.

My issue is that I’m really pale and the Missha doesn’t stop me from burning at all, so I need to find a new sunscreen.

Does anyone know of a primer that has a similar effect? My face looks so much better with this on.

Shaving legs daily while self tanning

How do you balance leg hair removal with self tanning? I shave my legs every day or two if they’re going to be exposed, and it takes the self tanner right off. Any tips besides having to use a gradual tan lotion every day?
