Barebells birthday cake

Not much to say about this one except it's just okay. Tastes like a white chocolate protein bar. No birthday cake flavor detected. Could pass for a Special K bar if you blindfolded me. 7/10 only because it has sprinkles.

Legendary blueberry protein "pop-tart"

It was a slow Sunday evening at The Vitamin Shoppe. I stood in the aisle surveying the selection of protein bars, the sole shopper in the store, having ventured out in boredom figuring I'd entertain myself by picking a few new protein snacks. The manager tending the register, being the only other soul in the establishment, asked for the third time if I needed any help. Gazing indecisively at a wall of protein pastries, I thought I'd let him be helpful and asked - what's the most popular Legendary product here?

He looked blankly at me. "Honestly, none of them. I hate them all."

So much for the help, dude.

So like a little glutton for punishment, I picked up the blueberry one and ran to taste this sinful abomination.

Unwrapped, it looks unappealing. The coloring is unnerving and it sticks to the wrapper. But the smell... smells like that scrumptious fake blueberry you'd find in your breakfast Pop-Tart or lunchbox Nutri Grain bar as a kid. And I'm pleasantly surprised to report, the flavor is quite nice and redeeming. The soft outer "pastry" portion tastes like a nice sweet dough, and as you can see from the last photo (cut open) there is a fairly thick and gooey blueberry filling. Tastes like artificial blueberry, but in a good way.

This was an enjoyable novelty protein snack. Not one that I'd purchase by the box, but I'm happy I tried it nonetheless and am curious to try other Legendary products.

For those who track progress, how do you define a binge that resets your streak?

A few weeks ago I became so fed up with the cycle, so terrified of the long term consequences, so mentally distressed, and so physically ill that I promised myself I would stop hurting myself by binge eating.

And I did make changes, addressing my mental and physical health. I already feel better. It hasn't been easy, but I am proud. I love using my app (I am Sober) because it motivates me every day to keep going. I love watching my streak grow.

So that brings me to the difficult days, the "gray area" and overeating situations. For example, yesterday. I'd unintentionally eaten very little all day while performing LOTS of physical activity, as I'm in the process of moving. It was a happy and productive day - genuinely no desire to binge. Before bed though, when all the external stimulation and excited adrenaline finally wore off, I found myself incredibly hungry. No surprise, I'd been exerting energy lifting and hauling boxes all day long. I usually don't eat late for digestive reasons but my stomach was really growling, so I opted for a hefty fridge cleanout meal and dessert at 11 pm: eggs with avocado, steamed broccoli, big tub of greek yogurt with chia seeds, and a small scoop of ice cream. In summary: I didn't have the familiar "fuck it and keep going" thoughts of binges past and I satisfied my hunger to the point I could sleep, BUT I still ate a disproportionately large number of calories at night and thus, woke up with the unpleasant groggy regret and achy stomach feelings that I know all too well. That alone made me feel "spooked" and disheartened with myself, left questioning whether it's most honest of me to reset my streak for overeating.

So I am wondering, how do you define a true binge? Do you have clear guidelines to help hold yourself honest and accountable? I am considering setting some.

Dinners with Season

Deen dinners from the last 2 days. Both have shredded cabbage, carrots, broccoli, kale, olive oil, avocado, sauerkraut, sesame seeds. Cans used are shown. I like my sardines with bones, but the boneless are still tasty.

Moment of appreciation for the bricks of sashimi that were served to us at my favorite sushi restaurant today. I think my sushi boat almost sank from carrying all that fish.

Quest's seasonal bars are really great. Peppermint bark is a winter limited edition flavor, and luckily I still have a couple left to enjoy through the summer. It has a somewhat dense, chewy interior like a traditional Quest bar. With the combination of white chocolate coating and light candy-cane taste, it pulls off the "white chocolate peppermint bark" flavor nicely.

I've never had a Legendary product, but curiousity got the best of me. I also haven't eaten a Pop-Tart for over 10 years due to gluten intolerance, though I still clearly recall the magical flavor of the brown sugar cinnamon Pop-Tarts from childhood. I taste-tested this protein-tart straight from the wrapper, untoasted. It's not a true Pop-Tart copycat (not that I expected it to be, truthfully) but I am very fond of it. In comparison to a Pop-Tart, the protein-tart is sweeter and cakier. I actually really enjoyed the thick cakey texture, like a bready pastry dough. There isn't a huge amount of filling, but it still carries a nice cinnamon flavor - *slightly reminiscent* of a Pop-Tart. I'm eager to try some more of the protein pastry offerings from this brand.
