LILY

Hello diehard Paul fans. I heard Paul talking about LILY recently on a podcast. Many know be used on the RAM cover (right side) which stood for “Linda I Love You”
Recently discovered on DVD behind scenes in 2007 he talks about DVD special features outside somewhere where he says “little hidden things for fans”

While he is saying that…behind him is a building that says LILY.

If anyone has that scene from the 2007 DVD and/or knows what that LILY store was/is that would be super helpful.

AITA Not always tipping take out

I generally tip 33% because I used to work for restaurants and pizza delivery when I was younger. I can afford to tip most of the time. If the service is bad I’ll tip 15% and really bad 10% with a “manager talk” to let someone aware of an issue.

This is for most things. Haircuts, servers/food, delivery etc.

But where I don’t tip often is takeout. Today I learned from someone’s son that they were upset because while they often get tips for takeout orders at their restaurant, they don’t actually get tips if it’s a DoorDash order. And that “sucks because that’s how they make money” etc etc. so am I really the A for not often tipping take/carry out? I often do 0 for most cash register transactions and take out.

I’m not looking for end tipping answers I’m looking for the people who actually tip regularly for what it used to mean to everybody in the US.

Which blackbery to get for cell coverage?

I’m looking for either blackberry clsssic or any old blackberry design that looks like an actual blackberry. Not the wide ones or half keyboard designs. I used to have blackberries from 2005 to 2013 but I know many of them didn’t even support LTE.

I have US mobile so I can choose Verizon, tmobile or ATT. But of course that’s only 4G and 5G now.

What are my options?

I need SMS, Email IMAP or Gmail, maybe Google Calendar sync.

Nice to have would be Android support for other apps like slack and navigation apps to work.

I’m just overwhelmed as an older millennial by all the models and compatibility options left.

Can I use spectrum’s WiFi 5G backup router just as a 5G backup?

Basically I have an advanced setup with 3 WAN connections. Primary is spectrum 2gbps and secondary is ATT fiber 300/300. I’m wondering if it’s acceptable to use Spectrum router just for its 5G and have spectrum modem use my primary wan/router only.

That way if spectrum goes down it still fails over to another ISP before my house starts using 5G as a last resort only.

Also how the heck can I get this thing in bridge / pass through mode or does that not work if I’m using its 5G backup ?

Will 100 or 200mbps plan ever be available in areas that don’t really need it?

I’ve had Starlink for couple years. And the residential unlimited plans obviously keep increasing. I installed it on my roof and I love it. But the reality is, I don’t need it here. It’s always been a tremendous backup. But for $130 I am having a hard time justifying that cost just for a backup ISP.

Right now spectrum is $60 for 2000gbps down and up, with a 5G Verizon backup (100GB bandwidth 5G speeds)

And also ATT fiber is $55 for 300/300 backup now. Yes spectrum moved to primary cause 2000gbps is 25ms ping at least and cheaper than ATT 1 or 2 gbps plans even tho their ping is slightly lower 9ms.

Starlink was always great incase the utility companies or electricity was completely down too long causing the local ISP outrages too. But rarely if ever are both Spectrum and ATT are offline.

So question is…will there ever be a day I can just pay for a 100mbps or 200mbps plan instead of the full 400+? Or is it because I’m just in a spot that doesn’t need it I’ll only have these high rates ? I like my Starlink dish and don’t want to keep it on standby only forever it was nice doing load balancing too. 😃

I dropped my MacBook Pro visiting Japan :(

No Apple care. Bought it in Dec 2024 so it’s a 2024 M4 pro max model. I use mbPro for video editing occasionally and testing LLM models as I work for an Ai company. I was walking around Kyoto and my terrible bag decided to open on its own as the zipper I guess kept slowly opening on its own. Next thing I know my MacBook fell to the ground and scratched the corners of it mostly.

I want to get it replace but curious if it’s worth getting the latest m5 pro max model or just get the m5 pro comparing to my current busted m4 pro max.

EDIT: thank you everyone for reminding me what isn’t really a big deal. I decided I’m not gonna buy a new Pro over this. It’s still fully usable and I’m gonna keep it for my desk / dual monitor setup. However, I am gonna get an Air with 32GB at least for travel. It’s better to have light weight MacBook anyways for travel…and it’s almost just as good for most of what I need for work and other stuff.

I was just emotional and lost that clean MacBook Pro look but ultimately i really shouldn’t have been traveling / walking around a foreign country (to me) with an expensive and slightly heavier machine like that regardless if I still blame my bag. Thanks everyone for reminding me what’s really important.

Stupid question / anyone ever seen XB converted to EV ?

I know rich people have converted old hummers to electric like Schwarzenegger. If budget was an issue this something someone could actually mod the gen 1 xb to lol…a plug-in charge at home (solar even) xb would be pretty darn cool.

Sorry I have bored silly thoughts.

Want my ScionXB from 2007 back so bad

This is more of a feelings and thoughts post.

So I have a Tesla and I love my car. But in 2007 when I was 18-19 I was so fortunate to have a job and co-sign with my step dad back in 2007 for a used 2006 ScionXB that had 30,000 miles on it.

I loved that car. For whatever reason few years later I traded it in.

I think about that car a couple times a month and it’s been almost 20 years since I sat in one.

I have some cash money and just curious what should be my expectations for buying a use model. Mileage is importanr but I have to have realistic expectations. The important thing is the interior and exterior condition. But what range of $$ should I look for based on what mileage is.

I even still have my old working ipod ready for ipod compatibility if i can find one that supports it. I rememev I had that with the steering whel controls

Am I silly? I have no debt other than house and a 0.99% car loan with small payments. I probably want to get the scionxb in cash. But I’m probably forced to leave it out in Texas sun…is that bad or ridiculous for pure nostalgia to have a roomy vehicle to transport stuff every now and then lol.

Only 30% offset. Should I just walk away from Solar idea for my house?

North Texas area, heavy user about 39,000 kWh/year (dual AC, pool equipment, Model Y + a PHEV charging at home).

Tesla says 11.34 kW is the MAX my roof fits, which
is only a 30% offset. Quote is 1 Powerwall 3 (can add expansion units, they'd recommend 2 total) for about 27K savings over the 25-year period.

At 30% I'm still buying two-thirds of my power from the grid, and the lifetime savings are about what the system costs. Feels less like an offset play and more like paying for a backup battery while still carrying most of a utility bill. And as great as backup is, we barely have outages here.

I never expected 100% independence and I know our usage is high…but 30% doesn't seem worth the spend.

Am I right to walk, or undervaluing the backup + rate hedge? Is a 11 kW roof just a bad solar candidate at this usage? And is it worth a second quote, or will setbacks cap any installer around the same size?

Not to be too political but if democrats get back in office do you think federal tax incentives return?

I’m trying to debate on race between AI data centers increasing our utility costs another 5%+ vs the hope federal incentives return for solar and electric cars. For reference our electricity rates here in Texas increased 5% since 2021-2022. Between DFW and surrounding areas there’s constant talk about it going up higher over next few years.

I hope this post doesn’t come off as a too “red vs blue” debate for the US as much. Just curious if others have been hesitant to switch to solar since the current government is so anti green energy.

Mobile coverage here. ATT/verizon/tmobile

Curious to know if anyone has had “no issue at all” vs “terrible coverage”. To be clear there’s truly only three wireless carriers to choose from. ATT, Tmobile and Verizon. So if you have good luck with Spectrum Mobile that means you have good luck with Verizon. If you have good luck with Boost then it’s ATT. Mint is tmobile etc etc.

So I’m really curious how coverage is throughout north Texas. Tmobile always seemed the fastest but couple years ago they had complete dead zones in McKinney and tmobile where full signal but no data. ATT works better for me but then the speeds are always slow. I hear decent things about Verizon (such as spectrum mobile) — what are some real world feedback around here because I just want something reliable for data and calls.

Make Summon Smart Again

I just want to back out of my driveway like I did for years with summon. Now it’s afraid to go over a tiny little hump from garage to the driveway.

If anything just bring back dumb summon. Seriously I just want my car to backwards from my narrow garage. It’s not doing to hit anything. Now I have to squeeze myself through to get in my car again like I did with my old Honda.

Extra points if summon works with HW4 like it does on other models (yes I like my fob) and doesn’t require continuous press on a darn fob.

The latest FSD update and smart summon improvements now I can’t do the simplest summon tasks.
