Easy way to cover this up?

Easy way to cover this up?

Trying to remodel my basement a bit and come up with some way to cover up these water pipes. I am putting in new drop ceiling tiles, and will be removing the old carpet soon as well as painting.

The pipes come down from the ceiling about 70", they are about 30" in width, and com out from the wall about 9". Floor to drop ceiling is 7ft.

I don't think I am handy enough to build a cabinet of some sort.

Any ideas?

Try in to grow grass ended up with huge SHROOMS!

These mushrooms are seriously huge! The largest one looks to be nearly 8 inches in width and they're getting bigger by the day. This is in Massachusetts after laying down loam, seed, fertilizer, and peat moss on top.

Day 5 lawn reno update – dethatched, 4 yards of loam, seeded Sunday and officially seeing some GREEN!

Figured I’d post an update to my first lawn renovation since my original post was basically right after dethatching and before the loam showed up.

I live in the North East of the US and this lawn had been neglected for quite a while. A lot of it was moss, dead grass and some really sandy areas due to basically being on a sandy peninsula.

Here’s where I’m at now:

  • Dethatched the whole lawn pretty aggressively with my 15A MKZ dethatcher and pulled up a ridiculous amount of moss/dead material.
  • Did a bunch of additional cleanup and weed pulling and ended up exposing a LOT of sand, especially in the area that had previously been disturbed around my septic.
  • Set up and tested my sprinklers to make sure I could get decent coverage. I’m running them through a Wi-Fi timer.
  • Had 4 yards of loam delivered.
  • Spread the loam around the lawn, concentrating more of it over the really sandy sections, and tried to level everything as well as I could.
  • Improvised a landscape rake because I didn’t have one and found out it was much easier to help even everything out!
  • Seeded this past Sunday with Jonathan Green Ultra.
  • Put down Scotts Turf Builder Triple Action Built for Seeding.
  • Lightly raked in both of these with the backside of a metal rake and then went over it with a lawn roller i rented from Home Depot.
  • Added a light layer of peat moss over the seed with a compost spreader I also rented from Home Depot. - 5 bundles worth.
  • Started keeping the seedbed consistently damp with the sprinkler setup and had some rain storms as well which helped.

Today is Day 5, and I’m finally starting to see the first grass coming up.

It’s still very early and some areas are germinating faster than others, but after looking at dirt and peat moss all week, seeing those first little green blades was pretty satisfying.

The pictures are basically in order from the dethatching/sandy mess → sprinkler setup → loam delivery → spreading/leveling → seed/peat moss → Day 5 germination.

This is my first time doing anything like this at all so I’m learning as I go and those green little heads really instill confidence.

How does this look for Day 5?

First lawn renovation attempt - dethatched, 4 yards loam coming Saturday. Looking for input.

I have neglected my lawn for a long time now and decide it was time to try and bring it back this fall. I live in Massachusetts, Cape Cod more specifically, so it might still be a bit early, but I would rather be early than late otherwise I will never get this done.

I have attached a couple pictures of what the before and after look like. So far I have only dethatched the yard with a 15A MKZ dethatcher (not the scarifier attachment).

I dethatched yesterday and today and pulled up a pretty ridiculous amount of moss and dead grass along with a few weeds here and there - I plan on continuing to weed pull tomorrow. There’s now a lot more exposed soil and sand, but I’ve got a couple areas I’m unsure about.

My current plan:

  • 4 yards of loam being delivered Saturday - Is this enough?
  • Use it to level the lawn where I can and get a layer of better soil over the really sandy sections
  • Seed with Jonathan Green Ultra and then use the back of a metal rake to lightly groom the seeds into the soil
  • Apply Scotts Turf Builder Triple Action Built for Seeding fertilizer at the same time as the seed no need to rake in like the seed
  • Water 2-3 times a day as my lawn bakes in the sun all day

Main concern #1: One section is extremely sandy. There is some existing soil there, but after dethatching it’s basically exposed sand in places. I’m planning to put loam over it and level out with a rake as best as possible. Would you work the loam into the sand at all, or just topdress over it? Also curious how thick you’d go without burying the remaining grass too much.

Main concern #2: The area under/around the trees still has a bit of moss and gets a lot of shade. The soil itself actually seems decent, so I’m going to give seed a shot there. For anyone who has dealt with heavy shade, would you change anything about my approach or just accept that this section may always be thinner?

I’d also appreciate any input on the order of operations once the loam arrives — spread/level, seed, lightly rake it in, starter fertilizer, then water? Anything you’d do differently based on the pictures?

First time doing this much lawn work, so any input would be greatly appreciated. FYI I do not have a lawn roller, lawn rake, or moss roller.

Should I feel bad?

Today I took a delivery order for a grocery store and the drop off instructions said to 'drop off at front door'.

I pulled up to the house and started doing my thing. I then turned around to bring the groceries to the door and saw an old lady with a cane and the front door cracked.

I walk up with all the bags and say "I'm just going to leave these here".

She said "umm on the front counter".

I then said "sorry I do not go into people's houses and try to go on their property as little as possible".

She says "I'm going to report you".

I said "do what you need to do and sorry I do not feel comfortable going into people's houses and I have even been bit by someone's dog before".

She bends down slowly to grab the bag and under her breath she says "son of a b****".

Adding remote start before winter!

Figured I might try to be a bit proactive and add remote start to my 2013 Explorer XLT if possible. Are there any easy and reliable kits to do this? Any easy to follow YouTube video's to follow?

Thanks

How on earth would you mount to this building

Would like to avoid mounting to cedar shingle roof. Is there anything out there that would allow me to mount to the soffit then go around the gutter? Almost like a J pipe mount? Would most likely be popping the cables in through the soffit as well.

Hit and run repair

My wife parked the car for the day for her retail job. When she got out she came across this.

Dented metal, scraping, and broken lens.

What's the cheapest way to fix this? And where do I get a new lens?

2017 Civic and people suck.

DD Stealing Tips?

So I took a 7 dollar order last night...

As I was going to drop off the order, the lady at the door asked me "Do you work for DD or do you work for XXX restaurant?"

I said I work for DD.

She said "Did you receive my 7 dollar tip?"

I proceeded to complete the drop off and then looked at the order total: $2 base pay $5 customer tips.

I said I got $5 in tips.

She handed me another $5 dollars.

Are we getting swindled by DD?
