Questions regarding non biblical texts in Christianity from a Jewish guy
Hello there, I'm jewish and I have a few questions regarding non biblical texts in Christianity, if any of you would be willing to answer any of these questions I would be very grateful:
How important are most non biblical texts to the "average" Christian in their everyday life? Like how many of them relate to one's life style?
What is the "most" important non biblical text to "most" Christian sects? I imagine this is an extremely difficult thing to answer, so Alternatively, what is the most important non biblical text in your particular sect?
What decided the "canon" of the Christian Bible? I am vaguely aware of an event called the council of nikea but I don't know what it actually entailed and why it happened (learnt of the name from 40k originally).
This question is more directed towards lutherans specifically: what motivated luther to write his book on the jews? And what are his main arguments in the book? I do not have much knowledge regarding the book but from the little I know it seems pretty bad.
Does Christianity have anything like the Talmud? (by that I mean a collection of important dialogs/arguments that serve at least partially as authoritative?)
Are there examples of theological texts written at the earliest times of Christianity by people of significance to Christianity that are not considered biblical? If so what are they? And how important are they?
Does your sect of Christianity have any non biblical texts that express opinions on the Jewish people? And if so what are they and what opinions do they express?
Are there any non biblical religious texts that do not originate in your sect of Christianity or in Christianity as a whole that you find insightful and important to your personal understanding of your faith?
Are there any non biblical texts of significance importance that were written by jews who had converted?
There are all of the questions I have so far.
If any if you would be willing to answer some/all of my questions I would be very grateful, and if you have any questions regarding Judaism and non biblical jewish texts I will do my best to answer (although I am no expert, I do have some general knowledge regarding this).
Thank you and have a pleasant rest of the day
Ritual Raven's lore
I love this little guy, I've always been a big ritual fan and so this guy has been with me in most of my decks and I always wondered what his story actually is, like obviously he is being fed and pampered and dressed up by those laughing bastards because they plan to sacrifice him but like do they succeed? The closest thing to an answer I could find was ascending soul which I don't think actually depicts him dying but mechanically (to me at least) implies this bird might be able to revive were it to actually be sacrificed.
In general I think the story we have so far for ritual raven is pretty cute but I would love to see it expanded (maybe as a full archetype one day?).
How about you all? What do you think will be the ultimate fate of our birdy boi? Aside from being great ritual support lol.
Possibly new player looking to ask which dlcs I should get with the fane to fulfill my fantasy, and a general explanation on the ruler types?
As the title suggests I am considering wether to get the game, and if I do which dlcs I should get with it, as well as a general explanation about hero types.
My specific fantasy is big golem faction, as many golems and weird constructs as possible.
So I once again return to ask people questions regarding themes for changeling
And my question is thus: are there any changelings that are more living stories in a literal way? Like I know that because of the nature of the umbra all changelings are kinda living stories but I mean in a more literal sense, like not mythological/folklorian creature reincarnating as a human but instead a story incarnating as a human? Like for example the story of David and goliath? Or the story of red riding hood?
If not then I think that could be a cool way to reflavour some kiths, could also create some interesting meins, like for example in the example of the story of red riding hood the mein could be a combination of the wolf the hunter and red riding hood.
Just wanted to ask if there was perhaps a merit or something that could also help embody this mechanically beyond "merely" reflavouring existing kiths
To the princess the hopeful lore experts: do princesses have any interaction with the god machine?
One of my favorite parts of many of many of the splat books in cofd is the sections about their interaction with the god machine and other splats, and I was wondering if the fan games also had sections such as those?
The Jovian is a weird and frankly terrifying creature in CofD lore, and one that poses a very interesting conundrum for tge created, for he doesn't actually want them to hurt people ir fully abandon the pilgrimage, mearly to prolong it indefinitely.
A great antagonist for any group and frankly on a meta level a brilliant idea as he basically represents the want to continue to play the game, to never let it end, and who can't relate to that?
What splats can hybridize in lore and which ones that can't do you think should be able to
Recently I have began to ponder the question of hybrid splats: which splats could in theory "hybridize" and to what extent.
In CofD I know that in theory every splat could also be a hunter, in fact it's not uncommonfor "half splats" (wolf blooded for example) to become hunters, but that's kinda easy since there is no mystical supernatural force involved in being a hunter (usually), it's a decision.
Aside from that prometheans can't really hybridize but once they experience new dawn (becoming human) they can become any other splat (except demons, although it's not entirely impossible).
In WoD I am less versed, I assume most things can't hybridize like in Chronicles but what can?
I wish the dlc still let you continue playing in sarrass after the end
I quite enjoyed it, but I was getting kinda tried with it so I finished it, kinda wish I could finish the main story but still get to explore the fun map, environments and creatures.
Over all a very good experience but still I wish you could still do that.
Working on concepts for jewish changelings: relationship with banality following the Rambam.
So about 10 days ago I posted here to ask for help with designing jewish inspired kiths, and since then I have decided to put aside the actual kiths aside for now and try to think of what the main conflicts of jewish changelings would be conpared to their cousins in other parts of the world, and I decided to focus on the one bane all changelings truly share: banality.
One of the most influential people in Judaism was Maimonides (רמב"מ), a great rabbi who is basically responsible for the way Judaism is today, and one of the most interesting and "extreme" changes he brought upon was the demystification of Judaism.
There is a story about how before him demons spirits and angels roamed the world but then he proclaimed that they don't exist and god himself was convinced and made it so they had never existed.
Now this is obviously a parable but it does basically describe how after him Judaism became far less concerned with demons and ghosts and mystical forces and far more concerned with the practical affairs of everyday life.
This transition is a big part of the reason why Judaism managed to survive as a "mostly" unified tradition across the diaspora.
Now I tried to translate this into changeling terms. Because on the one hand the process that Maimonides set into motion would surly be a huge injection of banality to the mystical creatures of Judaism, but on the other hand this injection of banality is what allowed the traditions that are at the heart of these creatures to survive and positively thrive.
So my idea is that this family of Changelings are very connected to their hunan side and are extremely banality ridden, like they are seeped in it, but through this banality they can sort of access the glamour that is at the core of jewish tradition and can even use it as an additional form of power.
Their existence is a dangerous dance of being just on the edge if becoming undone, and many other changelings may even view them as a sort of more docile version of dauntains due to their strange relationship with banality.
I'd love to hear your guy's opinions on this and maybe any sort of suggestions on how to represent that mechanically? My idea was that this family of Changelings can gain temporary banality that can be used for various effects and maybe have a special realm or art that relates to transforming things into parables and parables into things? I am not entirely sure because frankly I am not yet very well versed in the mechanics of changeling.
Any feedback would be appreciated and I hope you have a good day.
I want help with the mechanical side of creating a kith based on jewish mythology
I recently got the 20th edition of changeling the dreaming and I am quite enjoying the book, and I want to create kith based on creatures from jewish myth and I would appreciate the help with regards to creating them on the more mechanical side.
Currently I have 2 solid ideas for kith:
A kith based on the man of the field (extremely strong plant people who have an umbilical cord connecting them to the ground, which once separated die)
A kith based on the shamir (a weird worm that is able to split anything and was supposedly used to build the first temple)
These kiths are mostly common where jewish community exist and have a strange relationship with other changelings for their very close relationships with either the thallians (in the case of the people of the field who are very close to being thallians themselves I think, possibly born from the dreams of things hunting men and beast through fields of tall vegetation) or humans in the case of the shamir (who were pivotal to building the first temple in aincent Jerusalem)
I have some ideas regarding their affinities:
Nature for people of the field and prop for the shamir, but I don't have a solid mechanical idea as to how to represent their birthrights and frailties.
If you all could help I would appreciate it very much
Are thallians like beasts from CofD?
I am a CofD player trying to get more into WoD and I watched Burkerkrieg's video on changelings and to my understanding thallians are kinda like beasts right?
Demon the fallen players how close is demon the descent to fallen?
I am a big fan of demon the descent and I wondered how similar the games are.
Like for example do fallen have anything like the Cypher or na?
Do fallen demons also get a cool demon form? Is the gane also espionage based?
How do you think WoD splats would react to their CofD counterparts and vice versa?
I feel like dreaming would be fuckin horrified by lost, and ascension mages would be very interested in awakening mages.
Masquerade vamps would be shocked by the relative lax nature of requiem and I feel like wraith would find Geist very weird and possibly kinda wrong?
So I am working on an "Israel by night" game for CofD and I am trying to think of interesting conflicts and events that could have happened in the supernatural world inspired and effected by the very real history of violence and change in the region
For some additional context:
my friends have asked me as the resident eternal game master to try to craft an "Israel by night" type setting for all the splats in CofD so we can run a few games in our home towns basically.
Now I do understand that this is a sensitive topic but I do think CofD and WoD in general has proven itself capable of dealing with very sensitive topics in very mature ways which is what I ultimately seek to do with this while also having a little fun.
My goal with this though is not to tie any particular real life group to any supernatural group.
Like Palestinians aren't changelings and Israelis aren't prometheans, they are mostlyjust normal people who in thisversionof realityalso have to deal with supernaturalnonsense.
I also dont want to blame any real historical events on a supernatural force like the god machine (directly at least), humans can be just as bad without magical interference.
What I do want is for the very real history of the region to affect the supernatural world.
For example werewolf packs who have both Israeli and Palestinian woolfblooded that either drag them into the conflict or push the packs away from all woolfblooded and all "mortal" struggles due to the belief that it is fruitless, or the god machine intentionally creating stigmatics to push religious fanatics into dangerous destructive acts that lubricate it's great gears.
I would love to hear any ideas you all might have regarding such things if you are willing to share of course and I hope you will have a good rest of the day.
Hi so I am a conquest pf elisium 5 player and very recently I discovered dominion and I was wondering if there was a faction with golems like the enchanter in conquest of elysium.
I just really like golems and being a golem god seems awesome
So I want to create the ultimate wanderer culture, how would I go about doing that?
In the mod there are a few cultural traditions that give you additional skills and lifestyle experience for a stat while wondering, and I want to create a culture that has traditions that increase all of those and I was wondering what could be a relatively "quick" way to get all the prestige and prerequisites to getting all the traditions.
Recently found the mod and I wanna play a game as a landless adventurer, what fun and hopefully flavourful cultures and religions exist to help with that?
Currently I only have the base mod, if there are any extra mods that add fun stuff I think my steam deck could handle it hopefully
I am immensely disappointed with promethean.
I really love almost everything about chronicles of darkness, genuinely it's one of the most interesting settings out there and mechanically I think all the chronicles of darkness games are great, but promethean is absolutely the most disappointing one flavor and lore wise (maybe aside from beast but like beast is fucked up period).
I mean the game really got me going cause it basically advertised as "play as the golem of prauge and try to understand humanity" but aside from the fact that you more so play as a weird zombie mostly (aside from one sub group) it also adds so much unnecessary stuff, like the fire and the blight and all of that honestly feels unnecessary, like it generates drama that I genuinely don't think needs to exist because if they actually just stuck to the core concept of "non human artificial thing learns about humanity" it wouldn't need these "forced" drama creators.
Now to be fair I know that in my chronicles of darkness games I can just decide to not use a lot of the lore but I really feel like alot of the flavor of the mechanics is so tied up with these concepts like the fire and the philosophies and what not that I can't really separate it from the game system without kinda gutting it.
If there are any fans of promethean I would be honored if you could maybe explain why you love the game because maybe I really am just not getting it as I have only really read the book and not actually ran/played a game.
