What character tropes make you roll your eyes?

Currently planning an absurd satirical fantasy story where the main party of protagonists embody cringeworthy and slightly problematic tropes in fiction. (Example: blind character who is conveniently un-disabled by some power that allows them to see).

What character tropes annoy you the most in fiction? Should be a little more complex than “the blonde is dumb and the nerd wears glasses”. Tropes that are oddly specific yet unanimous enough that most people have definitely encountered them before. Bring on the cringe.

What to add to my left ear setup?

Trying to create a sense of balance. Ideas for my next piercing?

Ex and his therapist invited to the wedding I am standing up to.

Edit: my ex and his therapist are both men and are NOT dating. Sorry for any confusion!

It’s what the title says. Two of my best friends are getting married this fall. I am the maid of honor. My ex and his therapist are both invited and it’s super weird.

My ex and I had a very nebulous situationship for the larger part of a year. We broke up in June and he went off the rails. Didn’t eat for a week, suicidal, gossiped all about me to a bunch of mutual friends… it was a nightmare. He is a grown man with the maturity of a high school boy and the collateral damage was incredible. Of course, his therapist heard all about me (he even told me this before we went no-contact) and if the story he told is similar to what he’s told others, I’ve been conveyed more than terribly.

Problem is, he and his therapist are both friends of the groom. The therapist happens to be long time family friend, so he absolutely should be invited to the wedding. My ex only started seeing the therapist AFTER the wedding planning began about two months ago. The couple is not sure what to do, and they’ve asked me if I’m uncomfortable with the guest list. It told them it’s their wedding, and I can handle the awkwardness if it arises. I definitely am not looking forward to attending a wedding alongside my ex and his therapist, but I will be cordial and move forward. If anyone would cause problems, it would be my ex who can’t be in the same room as me without having a panic attack. To be honest, the bride and groom don’t even want my ex at their wedding anymore. In February they asked him to be a groomsman (which they regret) and are now planning to “demote” him from that position, though he is still invited as to not rock the boat too much.

Anyways, it’s all a mess and it’s such a bizarre situation, so I thought I’d post it here. Will my ex decide not to attend? Will he freak out last minute and bail? Will I make very awkward small-talk with the therapist who’s heard way too much about me? It is all yet to be seen.

Disclaimer: I am not upset that my ex is seeing a therapist. He has every right to do so and he SHOULD. It’s just weird that we all will be attending the same wedding.

I can’t keep doing this.

I relapsed on June 3rd after staying clean from cutting for almost a decade. Since then, the addiction has been in full swing, just like it was when I was a teenager, if not worse.

I’m laying in bed writing this as my thighs are burning because I cut after five days clean. Fighting through the urges for the past few days has been hell and I finally gave in. I’m not a deep cutter— just enough to bleed for a bit, but I do cut over a wide area because once I start, I can’t stop myself. Lack of severity aside (yes, I’m insecure about this), I regret it so much. I hate the guilt the morning after. I hate going to work (at my very physical job) extremely uncomfortable for eight hours because my pants are rubbing against my wounds. I hate the hiding and I’ve effectively disqualified myself from wearing shorts this summer.

Until this moment, I didn’t want to stop. Honestly, my aversion is probably fleeting. I’m feeling bad because I just did it and the regret is setting in. However, I know that addiction will soon drown out the guilt and compel me to do it once more. I feel like I can’t stop until I can leave a scar that won’t fade in a year, but I also don’t *want* to cut that deep. This cycle is destroying me and right now, in the middle of the night, I want out.

Nobody knows that I’ve been cutting. I don’t want to tell anybody who might freak out as a result. I think I might need to though (at least for the sake of accountability). Anyone have success with fighting off the urges? I need to end this and I really need encouragement.

Relapsed as an adult. I don’t want to stop.

F22. Started cutting at 13 and until three weeks ago, I’d been clean for around eight years. A bit ago I was hit with one of my biggest triggers and after years of successfully fighting the temptation, I relapsed spontaneously.

That was a mistake.

Now my old addiction is back in full swing, and cutting is on my mind everyday. I’ve cut a few times since, including tonight. I don’t cut very deep, just enough to draw blood, but I feel like I can’t stop until I finally leave scars on my body that will last longer than a few months. All of the scars from my childhood have long faded and I wrestle with not having anything to show for myself. Until I cut deep enough, I don’t think I’ll be satisfied.

Problems are:

  1. It is June.
  2. I work in short sleeves.
  3. I still live with my family and risk getting caught.
  4. I feel so guilty.

I’m mostly just venting here, but I haven’t been able to talk to anyone about this. My closest friend who I was going to confide in (he was a cutter too) just ended our relationship tonight. I feel so alone and I feel like a failure. How do I stop cutting when I don’t want to? I *should* want to, but I don’t. Ugh.

What does this color taste like?

For me it tastes like buffalo sauce and oranges. Not the best combination.
