Update: my kindle 8th gen is back to life again (fixed)

I have already shared my experience with this used kindle 8th gen basic.
What happened So far: https://www.reddit.com/r/kindleindia/s/o4xr0BwgIY
Its screen froze to a book cover and it was not waking up and no response was there despite trying multiple revival tricks. After trying so hard to fix this myself, I received some suggestions from reddit community (Ok-Audience-6781) and I was told that there might be some issue with the battery 🔋. Either the battery is faulty or some issue with the wiring.
So I took my kindle to a friend who is also a mobile hardware technician. I told him the same thing, he unplugged the battery from the board but nothing happened on screen. while keeping the battery unplugged from the board, he plugged the charger, still no response on the screen so he unplugged the charger also. But when he plugged the battery to the again to the board, Surprisingly IT STARTED TO FUNCTION AGAIN (atleast for now). And the smile on my face it brought was so satisfying.

I still dont know how and why it happened but atleast now I know what to do in this case.

Thanks for helping

(Update) Big Brother look at me [Faulty Kindle]

Is posted about getting a used kindle yesterday [ https://www.reddit.com/r/kindle/s/uVSV107NA4 ] and about my experience on day 1 which was so amazing that the first thing that I did after waking up the next day was to read a book on this kindle so with a lot of excitement and hopes I pressed the power button while adoring this beautiful book cover but to my surprise the kindle didn’t respond so I thought maybe its not responding due to some issue so I long pressed the power button to hard restart the kindle but nothing seemed to work.

Hours passed and I kept doing the same thing along with some other tricks from youtube but nothing seemed to work.

And now I fell like the big brother has highjacked my kindle coz maybe I was trying to know way too much than I was supposed to know and now Ministry of Truth got hold of me.

Will update in case of any development

My First kindle (8th Gen)

I just received this used 8th gen kindle which is my first kindle and I must say the experience of reading in this old kindle is so amazing. The power of having a huge library in such a light and handy device is the main reason why I decided to give this kindle a try. I was fed up with that feeling of confusion (about choosing the right book for the day) while travelling out of my home (even to my workplace)

So I checked over Olx and found a guy selling 8th gen kindle. Honestly I knew very less about kindles coz I haven’t used it (my friends kindle) more than once or twice.

So i checked over the video call and once satisfied ordered it. I got it under INR3000

While unboxing I found that there were some sign of repairs as if it was opened and repaired. I charged the battery and turned on the kindle, setup my profile and it was working fine.

Drawback of Kindle 8th gen
NO UPDATES
NO BACKLIT
NO WATERPROOFING

Battery is not that good though on wifi but overall I like this device way too much. Let’s see how it works in coming days.

Hopefully I will upgrade this kindle in near future once I truly feel it to be of high utility for me.

BTW guess which book I started to read on this Kindle?

Gujarat University admission issue

I am a student from Myanmar. I have been trying to apply for Gujarat University since the beginning of june but there no option to apply for international students.
I went to the STUDENT>INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS section of their website (gujaratuniversity[dot]ac[dot]in) also but every link in that page leads to blank pages (screenshots attached).
And on the registration and login page also, there is no update regarding the admissions even the date mentioned for admission is of 2024

If anybody could guide me through the admission process, that would be of immense help.

Airtel postpaid + wifi + tv | V/S | Jio postpaid + wifi + tv. Which one to go for?

I am a jio fiber, jio tv stb and jio postpaid user and here is the breakdown of my monthly expenditure

Fiber + tv
₹399 (fiber broadband) +₹200 (tv) =₹599.00 +18% GST
->599+18%=₹706.82

Postpaid (4 members)
₹449 (primary) +150 (per additional members) *3
449+450= ₹899 + 18% GST
->899+18%= ₹1,060.82
1060.82 / 4= ₹265.205 (per person)

So we spend a total of (706.82 + 1060.82) ₹1,767.64 in our household for broadband + tv + 4 postpaid connections.

IS THERE ANY BETTER PLAN IN ANY OTHER PROVIDER?
(We are ok with whatever ott we get with jio and i get yt premium with flipkart black and prime membership with my credit card and netflix is also free due to some reasons)

Edit: There is no issue with the service at all. In my area both airtel and jio have excellent service and technicians are also quick to respond. I want to know if there is any more value for money setup.

A random visit to a nearby bookstore lead me to this Light hearted, feel good, quick read

A few days ago I decided to visit a nearby bookstore (which is the only bookstore in my town)
Its a small bookstore with a very small collection of books though and the most surprising thing, there were no modern popular books (of both indian or foreign authors) except Amish and chetan bhagat.
There were collection of Shakespeare buy not the one I was looking for, Julius Caesar.
So after rummaging through every rack of the bookstore. I decided to read this book because of the lighthearted yet emotional theme of the book which I was able to interpret by having a look at the back of this book. It is sort of a children’s book though but enough to make you feel good instantly.
I wasn’t aware about the author and his previous works yet I decided to go for this one with a hope to maybe find a good-read which it turned out to be.

Definitely not a thriller

(Post only for those new at reading)

The story is not worth more than a 50-60 pages book to keep the essence of thriller book.
Oscar Wilde has explained in detail every feeling and emotion being experienced by the character (Gray), a very successful attempt of making us (the readers) well aware about the mental state and the surroundings of the character (Gray) consequently making it lengthy and feel as if its way too longer than its 219 pages. Definitely a slow paced books even though days, months and years pass by rapidly throughout the subsequent chapters. The way Oscar Wilde has presented the 19th century England seems like a mockery in the modern times but might have been a normal way of thinking back in those days (misogyny and class discrimination)

Not at all for beginners for sure. May get someone (new at reading) into reading slump.
The way too detailed explanation of the European society (specifically of England) makes it feel a bit slower and those irrelevant talks about the daily lives (most gossips) amongst the characters might kill the interest and thrill of reading especially if someone is reading with a mindset of reading a thriller.

It’s definitely a good book but save it for tbr and go for it only after trying some other classics like animal farm.

Watching Fifa 2026 Live on Unite8 Sports on Jio Tv Set Top Box

So I was super anxious since day 1 of Fifa and I was sure I wasnt going to pay 800 for I was sure I wont be able to watch all the match due to the unfavourable schedule for Indian Time zone.

I sailed across the seas and found some ways out, i was watching from some Canadian channel and it was undoubted hassle free and very better in terms of Quality. Around 30fps smooth and punchy colours and 1080 seemed so good for my 2019 43” Mi tv (max 1080)

But the only issue i faced was sometimes during some important event during the game, the stream would start to buffer or freeze. It was super annoying.

My Tv was also not that responsive every now and then as its internal memory is merely 4Gigs and too many apps were loaded there. So i was planning to buy fire tv stick and checked the price so I came to know they are way too expensive. The fire tv stick lite is currently around ₹3500 which I bought for ₹1900 with a smart bulb (free combo) in 2022 and its 8gigs only (not at all worth it) and other better variants were even around 4000 and even more than that.

I also tried a refurbished 2nd gen fire tv stick hd (currently using it with a smaller 720p 22” tv) and its slow indeed it feels dated now even though merely 2-4 apps are installed in that stick.

So I was done with fire sticks so while scrolling reddit and trying to find a way to watch fifa I came to know that jio tv and airtel xstream tv (both iptv services) are providing the live broadcast of Fifa 26 on Unite8 Sports 1 & 2. I was still sceptical but opted for jio tv box as a last resort as I already has Jio fiber broadband with ₹399 plan so adding ₹200 want a big deal for me coz I was getting a faster set top box with a lag free experience and yes Fifa live broadcast.

So it costed me ₹200 extra but I got ott subscription of hotstar (4 device access) which I actually needed coz everyone is crazy for cricket in my family (most cricket events are streamed on Hotstar), i got a faster experience, 22gigs free space even after installing 5-10 ott apps and the ultimate reason, Fifa live (and highlights too via unite8 Sports channels)

Now the drawbacks:
•Cant sideload anything. (But now that I have uninstalled all the apps from my tv os) i cant install 2-3 sideloaded apps without much issues

•Fifa broadcast quality of Unite8 Sports doesnt feel 1080 as it used to be on Fox channel and the colours also felt very dull compared to those channels.

Overall It was a good experience for me and I was able to get what I wanted without paying much for it.

Please suggest the subs where this post should be posted to let others know that it’s working.

TL;DR (AI)
Wanted to watch the FIFA 26 World Cup in India but didn't want to pay ₹800 or deal with inconvenient match timings. Pirated streams (Canadian channels) had great 1080p quality but suffered from annoying buffering. Additionally, an old Mi TV and overpriced Fire TV Sticks made streaming frustrating.

The Fix: Added the Jio TV Box to an existing JioFiber plan for an extra ₹200/month.

Pros: Smooth, lag-free box UI, included a Disney+ Hotstar subscription for the family's cricket needs, and allowed access to FIFA broadcasts via Unite8 Sports 1 & 2.

Cons: Jio box blocks sideloading apps (handled by installing them directly on the newly cleaned-up Mi TV instead), and the broadcast video quality/colors are duller than the Canadian streams.

Overall, a solid budget-friendly workaround for Indian viewers.
