Edit to add variables: The car lives in the garage, and it still can get hot where I live. It’s only taken out on the weekends so sitting in a heat box is probably to strongest variable at play here…with the cheap plastic. You do get what you paid for. Also I live in the mountains, lowered suspension (Koni/h&r), and not maintained roads until I get down the hill. I’m sure they would last longer in the city under normal circumstances.

Currently I drive a 2010 Mk6 GTI just shy of 130k (photo for attention) and I’m considering making the swap over to a b8/b8.5 S4. I love the GTI, it’s FBO/Stage 2, fully rebuilt undercarriage and just about anything that can break has been replaced. I just have the itch for something else. I like doing my own work and I want to move on to a different platform. I considered the Allroad and the S3 but I’m wanting to move away from the EA333. The s3 is also FWD bias and I’m wanting out of that as well.

How many of you here made the switch from GTI to S4?

Is the timing chain job that much of a nightmare for a garage mechanic? I’m sure I can find one that’s had that done already and pray it’s a one time repair. The rest of the issues sound similar to the EA888 as is tbh, PCV, Water Pump, Thermostats. All just VAG issues, so if there’s anything more pressing about the 3.0T that I should know please comment.

I’m also aware of the Mechatronic issue pre 2015 S4. Is it truly a gamble to purchase a S4 before this? My buddy has the S5 cabrio which has the same 3.0T/Trans combo and his clunked from the TCU failure. So if there is a way to test this with OBD or a mechanical test I’d appreciate that information as well.

Hey everyone, just sharing my current set ups/updates on my tanks. I also haven’t posted on this page and this is my main account now. So doing my rounds. 🤙🐠.

Info for those who want it:

Betta Tank: 10G with a single female Koi Betta. Hob filter, small air sponge filter as polisher/aerator. FZONE Desktop Co2 System. Planted with potted Lucky Bamboo, Amazon Swords, Red Crypt, Emerald Anubias, Hygrophila Angustifolia and I just added some Val. Various lava rock, quartz and seiryu, and one small piece of manzanita that the Anubias is on.

Community Tank: 25G with Gold Barbs, Amano Shrimp, Orange Venezuelan CoryDora, one SAE and some bonus neos from the fish store that made it into the bag. Canister filter w/FZONE lily pipe/skimmer combo & separate air sponge. Getting a 2.5L co2 tank on the weekend, just natural growth so far in this one. Planted with potted Lucky Bamboo, Amazon Swords, Red Crypt, Val and Jungle Val, and Java moss on one side of the driftwood. It’s making its way over to the other too.

20G Long: This is the newest project and it’s currently cycling. Not stocked, not really a “planted tank” yet either but there will be plants, I’m hoping you all can help me out there! It’s been set up for Dwarf Cichlids. It has a large Hygger air sponge and a Fluval Hob for filtration. For plants I’m doing the potted bamboo, a potted Pothos, and I started floating some Brazilian Pennywort. The substrate is Ciclid specific sand mixed with some already established black sand and pea gravel. It’s 90% the cichlid sand so they can still sift the sand through their gills. I’m open to suggestions on this tank! Thinking about a pair of Bolivian Rams so far. Also open to suggestions on other dwarf cichlids friendly plants too.

Couldn’t get the full clip, I was in the fire station tower at the dam, pinged by a good shot up in the trees above the tunnel. This person was nailing me. I finally broke their armor and decided to sneak around, luckily I caught the bot before they moved into their new position. I spotted them first, nice little headshot. Not a long one by any means but my favorite battle to date.

I was reading a post here just the other day how this band needed more recognition, well here you have it. They are back, and they got heavy?? I’m here for it. This new direction is sick. What do you think!? 🤘🏼
